Here's the new Thread.

Hi Becky,
So you have a prolactin level of 100? Have you done and MRI? My level was 32 at its highest and I had a tumor. I thought the high levels would be casued by stress but I was wrong. Now I am on prolactin .5mg per week and it works. they say it should get rid og the tumour all together. Polly

Hi Polly - oops - I just started a 2nd thread as well....
I have a prolactin level of 44 (from a test last week - the only one ever done so far). I am to be scheduled for an MRI, but the waiting list can be long in Canada. If need be we hope to schedule one at a private clinic that I can pay at... I'd really like to know the answer before Christmas! - What med are you on (it says prolactin, but I'm thinking you mean something else??) So, does that mean there is hope that meds will get rid of a tumour altogether without surgery? What other symptoms did you have? Mine have been missed periods since coming off birth control and a bit of breast milk (which I think has been there since I stopped breastfeeding my second child). I haven't had vision problems or headaches.

oops..I see this is THE new thread. Here's my response from the other thread... I had high prolactin levels before my first baby...and was put on Dostinex and was pregnant within the next 2 months...I can't remember the dosage or the frequency, it's been more than 2 yrs now. We were trying for over 6-7 months before my midwife recommended testing my levels. I wasn't on birth control pills so sorry, can't answer the 2nd part.

Hi Polly..how are you doing today? How's you DH handling this? My husband was like a rock (at least in front of me) but I'll never forget the look on his face when I told him it was a BFN. We've moved on & ready for IVF #2. I'm sorry you have to cycle again but we will do this together Polly! We can compare IVF notes too! Take care of yourself....

Hi Nita, Your ability to get pregnant within 2 months on Destonix is hopeful. I am one month on Bromocriptine and my levels have lowered to 29 from a high of 96. Had been trying for some time with no success before I had my levels tested. Have experienced larger breasts. Has anyone noticed any reduction in these after normal prolactin levels have been reached?

Well, my MRI is scheduled for Tuesday. My dr did other blood work that ruled out a thyroid problem and a liver problem, so it looks like my high prolactin level is the result of a prolactinoma. Does anyone out there have experience with an unexplained high level of prolactin?

beckyttc#3 - December 18

Not sure if anyone is still on this thread.... but this morning I was all ready to go for my MRI, and decided I had better do a pregnancy test before going, as everything I have read says that stuff they inject is harmful to a fetus. I really didn't think I was, but wanted to take precautions. Anyway, before I was even done peeing on it - it was POSITIVE! I've done another since, and same thing. My dr has done a blood test today, so it will be confirmed tomorrow, but he didn't think there was any reason for a false positive! I can't believe it! 12 days ago, I had a negative blood test for HCG, but had a prolactin level of 44. DH and I made love ONE time unprotected since, and then decided to use condoms until we got this prolactin thing sorted out. Anyway, needless to say we are "cautiously" thrilled!

Sara - December 19

Congrats becky!!! What a wonderful surprise. Are they holding off your MRI until after the pregnancy? I guess your prolactin will go up anyway.....

beckyttc#3 - December 20

Saw my dr today - hcg levels were already over 3400, so I am 4-5 weeks. It's possible that my negative pregnancy test 13 days ago was wrong, which would explain the prolactin elevation. There's still a chance it is a microprolactinoma (levels were too low for it to ever be a macro), but he says that will be fine. I am being referred to an ob/gyn now (usually in Canada you don't go to one until 26-30 weeks, unless you are high risk), so I'll be in good hands. I'm still quite shocked, but happy my HCG levels are up high already.

star_4_baby this is for you.

i am also 28 i have a prolactinoma which is high prolactin levels so i can help you on that subject and a few other things.

for 8 years i have searched and heres what i found to help you lower your prolactin levels and fall on.

number one - are you taking the right medication bromocriptine or cabergoline. I personally took cabergoline my periods were more regular and no side effects which really really helps your mood.

de- stress - stress increases your prolactin level so even if yopu have right meds you can increase your level by stressing out.

hot milk and honey before bed helps you sleep and stimulates the pituitory gland to burn fat while you sleep.

Quit smoking and to help destress while you do it hynotherapy de- stress by paul mkennna listen to each night.

Eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. i mean it it will help your well being.

ditch the drink alcohol seriously just quit. If you read this and are thinking its too hard ask yourself again how much do i want a baby.

cut out the caffeine it can seriously stop you from falling on i used to live on coffee.

take zink tablets b6 tablets multi vitamins and folic acid your body needs all these ive researched it its true.

get a book and make it your journal anytime you feel a little frustrated pour it out to the book no one will ever know you bitched and it makes you feel free of negativity.

walk for 20 mins 3 times a week take your shoes off and walk bare foot in the grass its amazing the feeling you get at one with nature. take in the scenery - i know it sounds metal but it will enrich you and you will start to look forward to your walks - go alone by the way.

cervical mucus - About the time that your discharge is stretchy and gooey this is the time to make love as this indiactes that your body has ovulated and that the sperm can swim easier with the aid of the clear thin mucus.

do not use any lubricants as they can be not sperm friendly.

after sex do not run to the shower to clean yourself inside out it wont help instead cuddle up to him and sleep on it.

and finally discuss all of the above with your partner dont forget he has feelings too and i have learnt from experience we can have such a determination to get our baby that we forget about what he may be feeling. love him and create a natural mood for love making and he wont be able to resist.

i have had two pregnancys and all of the above are evident in those pregnancys. i fell on with twins at the age of 17 but miscarried and unfortunately for us my little boy was born sleeping at 36 weeks on 25th November 07 we called him Owen but just to put you all at ease the docs say the result has absolutely nothing to do with prolactin levels ok. we are trying again and i know the above methods work so lets all do it together ay think posatively and posative things will happen i promise xx hope this helps

I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor many years ago. Now I am married and want to have children. My doc put me on bromocriptine because he says that is the drug of choice if ttc. My levels are at 97 and aren't going down fast enough. My doc increased my dosage to 5mg daily. He wants to see me after 8 weeks to check on levels. I am 33 and feel like I don't have a lot of time. Me and DH would like to have 2 or 3 children and right now we have none. I am happy that I found this forum because I have been searching for success stories and haven't found many. i would like to hear if people have had success with bromo.

Hello I am new to this and I have been reading all the success storys on here and the older one that they have one here. Well I am 23 yrs old and I am trying to have a baby. I been to the doctor and had serveral blood work done and I also had an MRI done to well I have high Prolactin and I am now starting Dostinex this month I am on .5mg and I just started taking the pills this past friday and is not due to take another one intill Wed. Due you think that this work out cause I am hoping it well. I have been trying since me and my husband been togather and it is like stressing. Also wanted to ask how do you monitor your ovulation cause I never did that because my periods are irregular and are never on time so I really don't know when I suppose to ovaulate. Give any body give me anything.

Sorry. This is actually a question, not an answer. I have a tumor on my pituitary gland. It is not a prolactinoma (since the tumor is not secreting prolactin). However, it is pushing on my pituitary gland, causing the gland to secrete high levels of prolactin. Does anyone know if this could cause a false positive on a pregnancy test?
