high PROLACTIN levels

I have a very high level of prolatine level of 98 (last test result) and don't have regular period since Jan. Since this Jan, I had only three period (Feb, June and August) and don't know when to expect again. I did go and see a Endocrologist in July and she put me on Bromo which was a nightmare to me. After reading all your comments and experience here, I felt much better. I am wondering if someone can give me some suggestion on: 1. Shall I talk to my encro to switch to Dontinex instead? I doubted that she will agree for I don't feel that she is caring enougth... or I should talk to my Gyn instead? 2. My husband and I have been trying for our second child for a while, but no success because of my high prolatine level. I am interested in trying Donetix but not sure about its side effects. Could someone share some experience regarding that? Many thanks!

I am just very nervous and desperate for trying to conceive second child. Donetix seems to work wonder here. Wondering if I get it elsewhere such as online order in case my endo doesn't want to put me on it. Please please help and advise.

I have been on Dostinex for the past 8 weeks. I have been having regular cycles for the past two months. My prolactin levels went down from 101 to 5. It seems to be working well. Thank God. Good Luck.

Jennifer: Thanks a lot for sharing your experience of Dostinex. Do you have any side effects? Did your endo doc perscribe Dostinex for you or you get it from somewhere else? I tried to reach my endo and she is out until Thursday. Hope that she will agree to put me on Dostinex.

I wanted to share that I have been on Dostinex for a few years due to pituitary tumor/high prolactin. I have been trying to get preganant for only the past 4-5 months and I just found out today that I am 3-5 weeks along!!!! There is hope ladies, just hang in there.

Haylee - October 28

To sandra, I was just wondering is your tumor a microadenoma or a macroadenoma? And how will you keep your prolactin levels down if you are pregnant?

Sandra - October 31

Microadenoma. Apparently, my tumor no longer shows on MRI, but my prolactin level is still in the 50's last time it was checked. I had to stop dostinex as soon as I found out I was pregnant, but I would imagine I need to get back on it as soon as I give birth. I see my doctor next month, so I will know more then.

To sandra: Did the dr's give an explanation on how it went away?

Yes, I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago and earlier this year my doctor checked my prolactin level and it was 32. I got it re-checked in August and it was 41. My doctor was concerned so she re-checked it fasting 2 days later and it was 42.5. I was scheduled to see an endrocinologist in late September. But I found out I was pregnant the 2nd week in September. I know I am rambling but my reason for this is because I want to explain that it is O.K. I am now 14 weeks pregnant and the baby is healthy. The only problem was that my progesterone level was 6 and it should have been 15-20 to sustain a pregnancy. I am done with the inserts because the placenta takes over and sustains the pregnancy after 12 weeks. My point in telling you all of this, is that the odds were stacked against but I want you to know that GOD is in CONTROL of your situation. As long as you believe that you are healed. GOD has the final say. But it this way!! In January, I had 17 cysts in my right oveary and 19 in my left ovary along with a high prolactin level and was told that I could not ovulate. NOW I am pregnant!!! Just keep the faith and in due time, in God's time you will have your baby!!! God Bless!!!!

Hi... it´s been a bleesing to finally find opinions of women with a similar situation... I had a pitituary macroadenoma surgically removed seven years ago... still no period; I want to have a baby so badly and also take care of him so nothing happens to him during pregnancy; Nowadays I am taking bromo (parlodel) and having the normal side effects but still no period; prolactine level 20. I wonder if any of you have a similar situation (of no periods and surgically removed adenoma) Of course I am open to advise...thank you... God bless you.

I to had a blood test revealing prolactin levels of 193, i am being referred for a MRI, my hubby and i have been tryin for a year. It is great to know that i am not suffering alone. Funny though because i have regular periods, and when the ouvulation kit i use shows that i ovulate on day 22/23, but my doctor tells my that i do not ouvulate because i also have a low progesterone level, i'm confused, because i had a smile on the ouvulation stick? Although my prolactin levels are high i am hopeful that i will get pregnant, even if it is a long road ahead. Can anyone tell me if their prolactin level was as high and successfully became pregnant, i.m 32 now i would love twins?

My doc put me on Dostinex one month before and it works like a charm for me. My previous Prolactive level is 98 in Sept, now it is 2. The normal level is 3 -- 20. So I am trying to reach my doc if I should decrease my dose. I take .25mg twice each week.

Mika - November 11

I've been taking bromo for the past 5 weeks. Been diagnosed with microadenoma and haven't had any periods or been ovulating for the past 3 years. Due to go back for examinations and test prolactine levels in another 2-3 weeks. My question is how long does it normally take to get normal prolactine levels? Are we talking days, weeks or years? We're really looking forward to getting pregnant (or at least try to get pregnant).

Tiffany Jo - November 14

Mika, I am also on Bromo. After starting the med, I started my period within five weeks and had a normal prolactin level after one month. I could actuallly notice a difference in the way I felt after about a week of starting the Bromo. Five months later, we are now trying to get pregnant!!!!! Thank God this is treatable!
