OHSS = ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome Some fertility medications can cause cysts in some women s ovaries to grow at an alarming rate.

Hi ladies... I haven't read the whole thread, but I have PCOS too. I started Metformin about a year ago, and that has helped to regulate my cycles and get my insulin in check. I started going to Curves at least 3 times per week and since last year have lost about 40lbs. I just got the negative results from my 4th IUI - I take clomid and hcg trigger to make sure I produce an egg and ovulate. It is so frustrating when our bodies don't do what we want! I now have to take a 2 cycle break - REs orders - from the fertility drugs, and I need to decide if I want to switch to injectables. Has anyone else done that? I hope everyone is doing well. Smiles... - T

thayword7, i did 8 cycles of clomid....4 with my OB.... took a break and 4 more with my RE before heading to injections. i was so afraid of all the mixing. my RE was great and prescribed follistim which comes in premix packages and you drop it into a pen and dial your dose. it was great. did 1 cycle + IUI = pregnant but ended in ectopic. did 3 cycles of femera and then 1 more of injections. this happened all over a 3 year time frame. after all this....i ended fertility stuff for yet another break and got pregnant on a natural cycle. i am 16wks pregnant and was only taking my metformin. injections were so much better for me....i had ugly clomid side effects. good luck.

Hello all. I am yet another PCOSer dealing with infertility, weight, hormone insanity, etc. It's nice to find a group of similar individuals. At the moment, my husband and I aren't exactly TTC, but I'm preparing myself anyhow. After 8 months of nothing happening - and a doctor informing me the slim chances of a natural pregnancy - we decided to take a break from the stress of it and start a new endeavor: going into business for ourselves. However, I'm not on any sort of BC and we still really want children, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled just in case. I suspect we'll be visiting a fertility specialist if nothing happens over this next year or so, though I'm secretly praying we won't have to. As for exams, I created a post discussing my huge fear of gyno exams, but I know I need to be going in and checking it out, as cysts can be dangerous. Someone please knock some sense into me! lol

Ladies, well no news here. Basically my doc is stumped as to what caused the pain and other symptoms that I had. I had another progesterone test done (still 1.4 so I didn't ovulate) and a pregnancy test (negative of course). I can't get in to see my doc until Sept 8th, but I feel much better now. So we'll see. I'll continue on my weight loss efforts and then demand more monitoring when I see my doc.

Andri... I know gyno exams REALLY SUCK! But we all have to have them and hopefully they tell us things that we need to know/fix in our repro journey! Just remember that it truly is the doctor's job and they are usually very professional! It doens't last that long either! Get more tests done as soon as you can, so that when you decide to REALLY start TTC that you will know what to do/where to start! The testing part can take a loooong time!

Lynn congrats on your pregnancy, Tinkerbell I'm sorry to hear about your hysterectomy and then still have to get Ovarian Residual Disease after all you have been -hopefully with God's blessings you will get through it. Had Laparoscopy surgery on august16 - doctor found my tubal blockage and removed it, she found no endo or cysts but weirdly she found a varicose vein in my uterus - she said that my ovaries were a little enlarged so she did ovarian drilling just 2 small holes on each ovary. Happily I think I had my period but not very sure - I mean my period was due on august19(3 days after my surgery) but I started spotting (on pad)the day before my surgery and have been spotting since. So being that I was spotting around the time I was suppose to have my period- I assumed it was my cycle though it was very very light and started taking 50mgclomid on saturday - so this would be cd6(still little confused) - though my doctor suggested that I try this cycle naturally with no clomid or iui to let my body heal that there is great success rates with ovarian drillin - but she only made 2 holes in my ovary plus using the clomid with or without iui would help increase my chances , I am going to beg/pressure her into doing an iui when I see her for my followup on monday - have my fingers crossed that she would say yes and hopefully this would be my conception cycle.
BABYDUST TO ALL TTC...

On how many mg of metformin did you start to lose weight - those of you that lost weight on it?
Metformin gave me nothing but pain, I went from 500mg- 2000mg metformin daily and nothing changed except for my bowel movements which became too frequent. I was told that I have Insulin resistance - but everytime I went for bloodwork my results always came back normal even after I stopped the metformin.
I'm hearing some people say that they have horrible s/e on clomid - it never affected me only had slight pain in my ovary during ovulation time and once had hotflash and night sweats when I went up to 150mg a day - though I know everyone is different.
Isn't Femara a drug prescribed for breast cancer? Why is it being used for infertility and how is it comparable to clomid?

Ouch Tracy that sounds horrible. Although I thought I was reading my own life experiences with going in and out of the E.R. Ignorant residents and grouchy nurses...bright lights and hours of staring up at the celing counting the little holes in the ceiling tiles.
Everytime I had that much pain that it made me suffer the indignities of the E.R. I knew it was a cyst. Sometimes they were seen and sometimes they had ruptured leaving the fluid trail behind on the U/S. I know the pain to well and I understand the need to kick the doctors face in when they are trying to examine you!
Yes, I have had OHSS when I was using Pergonal for IVF treatments. It is extremely painful and I was very nauseaus and light headed.
Lynn....we have two daughters that we have openly adopted from birth. We have had a few failed adoptions over the last six years. One here last month after our son to be was born and ready to be discharged home. His birthmother decided to parent.
I know one thing for sure...When we stopped the years of fertility treatments and had our newborn daughter placed in our arms...The pain of infertility went away for me. Yes I missed out on carrying a baby and giving birth but the love that I felt the minute they placed our first born in my arms was so healing for me!!

thayward7...
Yes we did the horrible clomid and then the hcg trigger method many times. Then we switched over to the injectables. I felt like a human pin cushion but I was not as moody or depressed on the injectables.
Good luck and take that 2 cycle break because it is important !!

Hi Ladies!! I to have PCOS!! I got diagnosed two years ago after trying to conceive with no period. Finally my fmily doc sent me to an OB/GYN when they determined it. They put me on Metformin (didn't have any prob on it) and then put me on clomid. Didn't work. Well I did 8 cycles of clomid and kept complaining of pain but they wouldn't look into it. Finally I demanded an ultrasound and there they found a cyst the size of a babies head on my left ovary. I then got scheduled for a Laproscopy for it to be removed. Since then I got a referral to a infertility specialist. There I did about 7 tries with Bravelle injections and IUI and no luck. Finally went onto IVF> Failed the first IVF but had frozen three eggs. On August 14th all three embryos survived the thawing and got transferred. I was not suppose to test till this Wednesday but took a home test and it was positive at 8dp my transfer. They confirmed it with a blood test. I still go on to my apt on Wednesday to monitor my numbers. So stay with it girls, it does happen!!

TracyR - August 31

ktbeee... how are you? Any word? Congratulations!!!
Ladies... I was wondering about progesterone levels. Mine is always low... now I don't ovulate, and I intend to talk to my doc on the 8th about trigger shots and more monitoring, but how do you know if your progesterone levels are too low?
Tinlerbell-Tink... your TTC story is a very rough one, but being able to adopt is so wonderful! I am sure you love your babies no less than you would if you gave birth to them and they are lucky to be a part of your loving family.
