Hi, It does make it hard for the sperm to penetrate the egg if it is of abnormal shape. I would see a urologist to discuss the results. My husbands 1st anaylsis indicated he had both low sperm count & low motility. All he did differnt was change from briefs to boxer then went for a 2nd test. Everything came back normal after that. It could be something so simple to change the results.

Does anyone know if having 2 inguinal hernias affect sperm count? These are the type of hernia that is in the groin and the intestines actually fall through the abdominal wall and settle into the ball sac.....I know how disgusting and gross. My dh has had 2 at separate times and has had surgery to correct that problem each time. I am just wondering if it will have any affect on us ttc or not. Thanks!

Does anybody know anything about morphology my husband had a semen analysis and his morphology is 17% and the range specified is 15-100% i don't understand does this mean 17% is abnormal and the rest of it is good or only 17% is normal and the rest is abnormal this is driving me crazy. Somebody pl throw some light on this.

I think greater than 14% is considered normal.

Hi, there is such a wide range of numbers for what % of morphology is normal. I think you should ask your doctor or even call the hospital speciman lab where they do the testing. They would know the normal ranges.

the concentration of spermatozoa should be at least 20 million per ml.


the total volume of semen should be at least 2ml.


the total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate should be at least 40 million.


at least 75 per cent of the spermatozoa should be alive (it is normal for up to 25 per cent to be dead).


at least 30 per cent of the spermatozoa should be of normal shape and form.


at least 25 per cent of the spermatozoa should be swimming with rapid forward movement.


at least 50 per cent of the spermatozoa should be swimming forward, even if only sluggishly.


It is quite surprising how many dead and abnormal sperm can be present in a 'normal' sample.

In the tests we did over 20 million count is normal, over 50% motility was normal and over 15% morphology (strict morphology test) was normal. So if you did the same tests we did your results are very good. Some morphology tests 30% is normal, it depends on what test your doctor did. I'd check with the doctor as to what is considered normal for the tests you did. 17% means 17% is normal but that's fine if you did the strict morphology test.

Yes, there are two standards for measuring. A strict paramaeter and the WHO ( world health org.). I am sure your husband is fine. Mine only has 7% normal and two drs told me that was not something to worry about. I guess you only need one to make it happen! And if you have 14% of the millions normal, that should be plenty!

Guys thank you all so much for your responses i feel much better now after reading all your posts. BTW my husband did talk to hi doctor and he said they did strict morphology under the guidelines of WHO. So, does this mean that it is normal. Thanks once again for all the support. I don't feel lonely and depressed anymore i do have people i can talk to. Thanks for making me feel better.
