Semen Culture positive for bacteria infection

I finally got my doctors to do a semen culture on my dh, and it came back that he had heavy growth of Enterococcus faecalis. Which I'm reading is a bacterial infection. So it looks like we have found the reason for the low morphology and poor semen samples. they tested the sperm with a few antibotics and this is what it came back as Ampicillin. . . . . . . . . . 2 SUSCEPTIBLE
Linezolid . . . . . . . . . . <=2 SUSCEPTIBLE
Penicillin. . . . . . . . . . 2 SUSCEPTIBLE
Vancomycin. . . . . . . . . . <=2 SUSCEPTIBLE
I am assuming that means that it can be treated with those antibotics. So I am reading that he has to be on strong antibotics for an extended period of time.. like 6-8 weeks. So it would be great if I can get some imput from anyone who has any helpful info, b/c the doctor won't call until next week, and kaiser sucks with advice they give. thanks.

also if anyone knows how one becomes infected with this, and if this is contagious, meaning i would have it too.

Hi SaintRose! So glad I found you! How are you? We miss you over on the injectables board! Hope you are doing well. I actually did a lot of reading about this, because I was worried that my DH had a prostatitis (which he didn't in the end). It is usually treated with 6-8 weeks of antibiotics as you said, and it is NOT contagious to you. It is the bacteria usually found in the digestive system, and the same way you can get a urine infection with the bacteria travelling from your digestive system to urinary system because the "holes" are close together, you can get the bacteria travellling into the prostate. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your DH's health, just he got an infection. I know it can definately affect the sperm count and morphology. Good luck! Keep us posted!
