Hi Everyone!! Long time since I've been on. Hubby and I took a break for a few months to get our hearts and our minds back into it all again. Just had my 2nd IUI today. I have 2 follies that the doctor kept calling "beautiful" and hubby had a count of 19.43 million. The doctor is pretty confident that this is gonna be it for us and I keep my fingers crossed and say a little prayer everyday :) Staying calm and positive and finding time each day to be by myself for a little while definitely helps me unstress. I go back in on Septemeber 13th to find out that we WILL BE pregnant :) Prayers to all of you and of course lots of baybdust!! Do yourself a favor and stay calm and positive!!! Smile ALWAYS, it really helps!!!! :D

Hey ladies, I have a question. I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor about it so maybe someone can help me out while I wait...

I just went in last Friday to have an u/s and found out my 2 follicles were ready for our IUI. So Friday night at 9pm I took my shot of Ovidrel and went in the following morning and had the IUI done around 10am. Everywhere that I'm reading, it says that IUI's are usually scheduled 24-36 hrs post trigger shot because it takes 24 hours for the shot make you ovulate. But, the doctors had me come in 13 hrs post trigger shot... Then I was reading how washed sperm only live between 6-12 hours, so I feel like the doctors timing may curb the effectiveness of our IUIs. My husband and I dont have too much wrong with us, just one of those couples that have had a hard time becoming pregnant. He gave a 19.43 million sperm count for our IUI and I was put on clomid because of my irregualar periods. I dont know if I'm just over analyzing it or if I really do have a case because the timing isn't lining up correctly. Guess only time will tell, while trying to keep my faith in my RE. Has anyone else gone through this? And still get pregnant for that matter?

Well I haven't posted in a while. I am really trying not to think about my fertility issues. I had my 3rd IUI last Tuesday. I am already 1w through my 2ww. Luckily, school has started back and it has kept my mind off things. I am staying positive. It seems like there will be alot of us testing this week and next. Baby dust to everyone.

a1koolstarz: Usually if you are doing a single IUI it should be scheduled 36hrs after the trigger shot...if you are doing double, they schedule at 12 and 24hrs later...personally, I disregarded my RE intructions to give myself the trigger shot at 9pm and go for the first IUI the morning after at 11am...instead I gave myself the shot 24hrs prior the first IUI and about 36hrs before the second one...I ovulated at 34hrs post trigger.
Best chances of conception are 6hrs prior or 6 hrs post ovulation as the washed sperm only lives an avg of 7 hrs after the wash.
I am not telling you to do that, just telling you I decided to take the chance after researching the issue as I also had doubts on the timing and after a failed IUI.
I am now 7 weeks pregnant, and started to feel the signs after 7 days past ovulation. (Read my previous posts)
Wish you luck and lots of sticky baby dust to you and all the girls on the 2ww.

Morenas1: If this IUI were not to work, I'm going to do that next cycle. I had been reading all about it, but I kept telling myself that the doctor was right..just listen to the doctor. In total we are on our second IUI, but everytime we have gone in, we only do a single. I have been giving myself the trigger at 12hrs before the IUI, and I dont believe my insurance overs a double. I cant figure out why the doctors would tell you to give yourself the shot 12 hrs before a single IUI. My ovidrel even states that it wont make you ovulate until around 24 hours later. Hope I didnt miss my "window of opportunity" We tried to up our chances after we got out of the fertility center the good old fashion way. Just hope SOMEONE got fertilized out of my 2 eggs!! How many IUIs did you have done before you got pregnant?? Also, how did you know when exactly you ovulated? Once I was done with the IUI, I did an ovulation test around 4 that afternoon (6hrs post IUI) and I hadnt ovulated yet. The next morning at 7am I took one and low and behold, I had ovulated. I'm definietly taking your advice next time!

Keeping the faith :) Lots of sticky babydust too everyone!

Hi Ladies,

I don't want to mix in any confusion. Also please keep in mind, I am new to all of this, and this Thursday will be my DH and I's first IUI with injections. I have spoke to my RE many times on this topic, and she stated that they will give me the injection tomorrow morning, then have the IUI 9:30 a.m Thursday. 24hrs post trigger because they want the sperm to be inserted and waiting for my eggs, once ovualtion occurs better chance they will attach. My RE also told me that the Sperm lasts for 5 days post IUI.

I am so confused now, with some of the posts and double IUI's. Because she also told us, that infact NO they do not do double IUI's because it really does not make a difference, and that there is no evisdence out there to back that up. She boldly stated, that it is all up to the clinic, and if it is being done, it is for money purposes because it is $350.00 each IUI. So she said it is not warranted, and they won't put coupels through that?!
My fertility Clinic is in Burlington, Ontario (Canada)

Help ......any comments?

a1koolstarz: I would suggest to you to research it, think it over and follow your instincts, as for me, I was starting to feel that it was just so long and was ready to drop the towel with my RE and look for someone else but at the same time I was afraid that they would have me start all the testing all over again so I decided to read and educate my self and do as much as I could do to help me increase my chances, sure they are the ones that went to school and suppose to know best...but they also work for money and I felt I have been trough so much and for so long, been trying to conceive for almost two yrs with my current RE and she had already told me if this last IUI didn't work we should move to do IVF and my insurance don't cover for it, so, decided to risk one chance and try it my way even thought for me it was to pay more out of pocket since I had to buy my donor sperm as well ($1200).
I know I ovulated 34hrs post injection because I felt it...after my trigger that day my ovu kit was positive and my ovaries really hurt to the point I couldn't even bend or sit (I had at least 6 mature follicles plus all the other little ones and they all trigger to release regardless of size).
This was my official second IUI but had lots of cancelled cycles, due to no response to the drugs (clomid) cancelled cycles due to cysts, and surgeries, etc.
I did some other things as well and kept myself thinking positive through the last cycle and lo and behold, this time it worked...my little bean is doing great, and keeping busy inside, up to yesterday I didn't feel much except sore bb's and cravings but I guess things are getting serious and just started to feel a little nausea and some headaches.
I really hope this time around works for all of you guys, it is so wonderful to look forward to see and feel your baby growing inside that I cannot put it in words., but if you have to try again, don't loose hope, take charge and follow your gut feeling.
Good luck and hopefully you'll get a BFP this time around, stay postive...your DH's numbers are great.

TONS and TONS of sticky baby dust to all!!

Thank you Morenas1! You give me a lot of hope. I found out that appararently "according to my RE" washed sperm live for 48-72 hours which is why they schedule IUI's 12 hours after the trigger shot. They want the sperm to be ready and waiting, even though I felt like it was too early. I did have some cramping and sore ovaries the days after I got my IUI (over 24 hours later) which probably means thats when I ovulated. I feel like its a little too late, but hey, I will know better for next month! DH and I are able to try until November-since I can only have a summer baby due to my schooling. I am very optimistic about how the next 3 months will pan out though! I think I am going to test before I go in for bloodwork, seeing how they have me coming in for bloodwork 16 dpIUI. If it comes out BFN at home, I wont bother paying my $50 dollar copay for them to give me another BFN, dont want to hear it twice, thank you! Hopefully this is it though!! Glad to hear your little baby is doing good! I wish there was a way for women to upload sono pictures and things on here so we could REALLY all feel connected, haha! Good luck to all women TTC this month!!! Keep your faith, miracles happen and you will have your baby!

chorona - August 31

Hi ladies,
I'm 3 days away from testing and really hopeful that this time it will work.
I've been reading all of the posts regarding triggering and pefect timing.
The first 2 sets of IUIs that I did I triggered about 24 hrs before the first IUI and 48 hrs before the second IUI. I got pregnant the first time this way (although it didn't stick), the second time I got a BFN. It's all up to chance. Don't forget that we only have a 20% of getting pregnant with IUI. I've always felt myself ovulate (on meds only) and it's always been perfect timing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This time around my ovaris worked extra hard and I didn't have time to do the trigger shot that far in advance. I got the trigger at 8am on Friday, first IUI at 12:30pm same day, and the 2nd IUI at 11am on Saturday (27 hrs after trigger shot).
I really try not to think too much about how many hrs pre or post ovulation. I trustmy clinic and the haven't given me any reason not to trust how the are handling my situation. They have plenty of success with their patients.
I have also done some of my own research and I have yet to come across a site where it states that washed sperm only last 6 hrs. Everything that I have read stats 24-72 hrs but it starts to lose potency after 24 hrs. And my doctor and nurse have told me the same thing. Obviously there is conflicting information out there so we have to be careful about what we read. Plus ttc is stressful enough that we don't need to stress about the plethora of information out there.

waiting-4-an-angel, I'm so happy to find another Canadian on here!!!!I live in Oakville so I assume we live close seeing as your clinic is in Burlington. My clinic is in downtown Toronto because it's close to work.
My clinic likes to do IUIs in pairs. They feel that it increases the chances in case ovulation occurs a bit later than expected. I've also read on certain sites that there is no proof that 2 IUIs are better, but there is also no evidence showing that it doesn't. For my own peace of mind I like doing 2 and then following up with intercourse the night of the second IUI to further increase my chances.
Every clinic/doctor is different, but the end result is what matters.
What medication are you on? How long have you been ttc?

Let's try not to stress too much and think positively. I've changed the my way of thinking this time around. I'm hoping third time is a charm!

LOTS OF STICKY BABY DUST TO ALL!!!

chorona - September 3

Hi ladies,
Well, it looks like the 3rd time is not a charm for us. We got a BFN!
Just got the call from the clinic. I'm so upset. I was feeling so good about this cycle and was positive that it had worked. I even felt all of the symptoms. But I guess what I thought were "symptoms" were just the side effects of the prolactin medication that I am taking.

I'm so frustrated!!!!!
WE're back to the drawing board. We move on to Puregon injections now which should give us 2-4 lead follicles. Hopefully that will do the trick.
I hope all of you in the 2ww get good news this weekend and please pray that soon enough I will get good news as well.

Baby dust to all!

chorona i'm so sorry to hear this cycle was negative. i wished u good luck because i didnt see where u had already posted. i hope this puregon helps and brings u the baby u deserve. is it similar to follistim?

chorona - September 3

Thanks alrndn! I appreciate your thoughts. Puregon is exactly like Follistim. This is the first time that I will be on it and I'm excited at the prospect of having more follicels as that will up my chances of conceiving. I'm just nervous about giving myself that actual injections. :)

You should be testing soon yourself, right? I hope you get good news. You had a huge follicle this cycle so definitely a big target for the swimmers!

Baby dust to all!

chorona: don't worry about the shots. i used follistim. u can either put it in your stomach or thigh. i get shots daily in my stomach, so i tried the thigh out of curiosity and it was sooo much better. i barely felt anything at all. let me know what u think when u try it. good luck.
