Can Bacterial Vaginosis affect your chances of concieving?

jamers - February 15th, 2008 11:25 PM

I would think it could if you've had it for a real long time, several times and not taking care of it. But not if you get it taken care of right away

I beleive so. You definitely want to see a Dr. about that. Their have been studies that have talked about bacteria getting into the uterus, which can defintely contribute to infertility. I chat with a woman in a forum, and she is very informed on this typed of subject, and has done a lot of research, and talked to me and my group about it. It can usually be cleared up with antibiotics, and a lot of times I guess RE's overlook this, but you should investigate it for you to stay healthy, and also for peace of mind. Good luck to you.

I don't think that bv can cause infertility. Or maybe I should say "permanent" infertility. I think that at the time it would create problems getting preggers. I have had it once before. It is very very common amoung women. I have a 3yr old and now 30wks preggers with my son. Don't let it get you down and definetly don't let that be the last word. You will be fine and pregnant soon. Good luck to you.

Hi xJsxTbx- Glad your on the antibiotics, that should clear it up...and then, you'll be on your way to try for your little miracle! GL!! :-)
BabyBrain32- That's what I meant, that it can cause infertility (if you have a vaginosis, and it's not treated) like anything that contributes to infertility, like endometriosis, and cysts on the ovaries, etc...these are things that contibute to infertility, but once they are helped, or taken care of, your chances of a pregnancy improve. :O)

anybody help?

Blakey - February 23rd, 2008 11:36 AM

Hi! My personal feeling on it, is no, I don't think you could pass it on, but i am not sure, just a hunch. I think it's like if a woman has a UTI, she can't pass that onto her partner, so I am wondering if it's the same for that. Again, I reallu don't know, and I don't know alot about bacterial vaginosisi. I would call your Dr. for peace of mind if your worried or concerned. I am sure your Dr. will help put your mind at ease. All the best~

Well as for the taking the antibiotics. I just got done with my prescription and I totally understand. What I do is take a big gulp of water, don't swallow, put my head back and drop the pill in the back of my throat and swallow that way I barely taste it or not taste it at all then I immediately follow it with food thats why I always took mine at meal times....and as for transmitting BV its very unlikely. I have found out I had it days after having intercourse and freaked. I was told that its rare that your partner will contract if from you. I guess if left untreated it probably could though.

Bacterial Vaginosis can only be passed from female to female.
