Starting IVF in July/August--Support for first timers

Hi ladies! I've noticed that there are a couple of people on this board (like me) that plan on starting IVF later this summer, around July & August. I wanted to start a thread so we can talk, share info, ect. about this crazy time in our lives. Me, I'm hoping to start my IVF-ICSIs cycle in late July/August and I'd like to have the timing work out so I know if I'm pg by my 2nd anniversary in mid-September. Looking forward to hearing from others in similar situations!!!

Hey Mega, I was planning on starting July then started 2nd guessing and then my FIL has taken ill so was told to put it off due to the stress of that not being good for an ivf cycle. I have had the ivf orientation, 6 failed iui's with injections. Dh factor and age factor going against us. We too would do icsi.

Mega - June 26

Hi Isa. I'm sorry about your FIL's illness. It's probably good call to put off the IVF cycle for awhile then with all the stress of your FIL's health. Do you have any idea when you'll start your cycle? What did you think of the IVF orientation? Learn a lot? Or did it just make your head swim with all that info? I have PCOS & DH has very low morphology (1% last SA) so that's why we're doing icsi too. Good luck to you.

Hi Mega! I have posted on one of the other threads you are on. I too am starting IVF in July. I will be having the test embryo transfer next week, then in about 3 weeks will begin Lupron injections before starting the stim meds. I wll be on a mid luteal lupron protocol. Not sure if we will do ICSI. DH's sa was normal in March so I guess if it is different when we do the IVF then they will do the ICSI. Not sure why I can't get pregnant on my own. I had endo removed in Jan 2004 but all tests have came back normal, even the hsg. No tubal damage or blockages. We are very excited to start the IVF!

Hi Twiggy. Yes, I read your other post this morning. It's so nice to meet other women on a similar track as me. Wow, your cycle is really moving along. How exciting. Good luck with the mock transfer next week. Are you in the middle of a suppression cycle right now? Are you on BCPs? How does a mid luteal lupron protocol work? My RE is out of town til July 5th, then when he comes back he's going to submit our application to Shared Risk and then once we get the verdict on that I hope to have my consultation. Are you doing shared risk? Do you have insurance coverage for IVF?

twiggy - June 26

We are not doing Shared Risk. Our insurance does cover 80% of the IVF, we are very very fortunate!! I am not being suppressed yet. I will be taking the lupron for suppression in a few weeks, probably in about 3 weeks. I don't think I will have to take birth control. After being on the lupron for a couple of weeks then I will add the stim meds.

Mega - June 26

Oh, 80% coverage, that's great! That's nice that you don't have to take BCPs for the suppression. Do you know what meds you'll be using for the stims?

twiggy - June 26

They are written down for me but I don't remember what they are! I would have to read it when I get home from work then tell you. DH and I both have to take antibiotics for 2 weeks before the retrieval. Ever heard of that?

CC - June 26

Hi ladies! I have had two friends from my other thread tell me about you both and that I should start a thread...Mega, you beat me to it! Thank you! I think you and have spoken in the past here and there. I love my friends on my thread but was telling them I needed to find IVF friends! Dh and I will be starting IVF the end of July...Right now Im on IVF protocol which is bcp for suppression. I have to be on it a little longer because I have cysts left over from my last IUI. Will start the IVF meds (Lupron, Bravelle, and Menopur) at the end of July..If all goes well, ER should be 8-15. Im excited, but nervous. After 3 rounds of Clomid, 2 failed IUI's, we just felt it was the right thing to do. My insurance paid for another IUI for the most part, but it was still costing us about 600.00-700.00 out of pocket, and we decided not to do a 3rd and go for IVF. Mega, you are so lucky about the shared risk, and Twiggy, you are so lucky to have most of it covered. My insurance covers nothing to do w/ IVF, and thats a bummer. We are using our savings..I just hope and pray it works. I have a hysteroscopy on the 17th to check for fibroids, cysts, tumors, etc. I will also have a mock transfer done then..If that comes back all clear, I am a go. Twiggy, I have heard of taking antibiotics before the ER. My Re doesnt do it, but I have heard of it before..Its so nice to have you both to talk to!!

twiggy - June 26

Hi CC! Yes I have heard of you! It sounds like we will be doing stim meds around the same time!

Ann1 - June 26

I am so glad you guys all found each other!! Twiggy, my RE treats you the same for ivf and iui with injectibles, and he had my dh and I take doxycycline the first cycle. It lasts for 6 months, so you won't have to take them again. They are to control bacteria that may affect implantation in the female and sperm quality in the male. I hope you guys don't mind that I will be constantly lurking on this thread. I can't wait to see all the bfps roll in!! Best of luck to all of you.

twiggy - June 26

Hi Ann! Thanks!

Mega - June 26

CC--Hi! Yes, I remember you. I think we both started IUI with injectibles at about the same time. So you're the one Lynn mentioned to me. :) It's funny but I've felt the same way about needing some IVF friends to go thru this with. That's so cool that you & Twiggy both are on very similar cycles. I won't be far behind. We're flexible for when we start the cycle (well flexible as long as my menstrual cycle cooperates) but I want to have Shared Risk taken care of first. I don't know for sure we'll get accepted since DH only has 1% morphology but I have confidence that my RE will fight them if they turn us down. Back in April our morphology was at 0% so it's definitely on the upswing. Good luck with the hysteroscopy on the 17th. Twiggy--I have heard about taking antibiotics before hand, usually before the ER like CC said. Let us know what stims you'll be on when you find that slip of paper. :) I'm hoping I'll be using Repronex for my stims b/c I have an entire box left from my last injectible cycle. :)

CC - June 26

Ann, you are too funny..Of course you can lurk! Im just thankful you arent having to join our thread! Twiggy, it sounds we will be close in our cycle. Im just thrilled to have two of you with me, it will be great to share info, etc.

CC - June 26

Mega, you are in Ohio right? I think I remember that from us talking months back..What about you Twiggy, where are you? Im in CA.

Galina - June 26
