What mg of Clomid do you take???

I just talk to my RE and she said that the 50 mg is enough but my eggs were a little small but she said that they are fine. She also said it is better to surge naturally than using the trigger shot I think otherwise but Iam not the dr. What did your's say????

I only did 50mg and I O own my own (produced lots of eggs but never got pg). My dr was of the opposite opinion on the trigger--thinks it is a better chance to get pg if you know exactly when you O. I was also doing iui with the clomid, so that may be the difference.

did you ever get pg???I am also doing the IUI's

No, I never did. I did 6 cycles of clomid 5 of which were iuis with clomid. I am on my 2nd month with injectibles now and plan to move on to ivf if this doesn't work. The way to gauge whether you need more clomid or not is by the number of mature follicles you are getting. Do you get ultrasounds during your cycle? If you are responding to 50mg (fore example if you are getting 2 or 3 mature follicles), you don't need a higher dose of clomid. More isn't better--you just need enough to up your follicle production.

I O on my own and I did 50mg last month. I didn't have a trigger but I did do IUI and got pg the first time. I did 2 months before with femara and clomid the month before that. Clomid and IUI was my magic combo. I'm now 5 weeks 1 day pg. Good luck I hope it works the first time for you too. Baby dust....

Ann1 well I did produce 2 mature follicles and like 3 smaller ones. I do have u/s on CD13 every cycle to make sure the IUI is a go. I will now be going for IUI #2 I just feel really discouraged. I know you don't usually get pg on your 1st but the only thing that didn't go right is the fact I surged before I could use the trigger. I know that decreases your odds usually. They even did a u/s the day after I had the IUI and the follicles were gone so that did release. And the sperm count was 85 million. It should have worked.

SashaP what was the sperm count when you had your IUI??? How old are you and did you know how many follicles you produced??

Don't get discourged yet. For some reason statistically clomid/iuis work most often on the third try. My theory is that you get the timing right once you monitor someone for a couple months.

according to my RE that's right she said the 4th 5th and 6th try work the most often. I wanted to tell her so you are paying for all of it right???LOL

Isn't that the truth on $$$! I have really good insurance, but even the copays add up quickly...

I have good insurance now but it will switch to a different one in June. That is why i wished I would get pregnant now becusse this insurance covers all of the infertility aspect except the donor sperm. It even covers the meds. So i am nervous about what it will start costing when the insurance runs out. I already took out a $3000 loan.

That is awful you have to switch. If your insurance is through your employer, you may be able to go on COBRA. It will be a fairly expensive monthly payment, but it would be much cheaper than the cost of injectibles and especially ivf. I believe by law your employer has to let you do COBRA for 2 years after your insurance coverage through them is gone.

Also, I saw your other question about sperm count. 85 mil is good. Most drs say they want over 20mil but many will do iui with as low as 5mil.

Also, what tests have you done? You should definitely do all you can in May while you have your current insurance!

They did the FSH, TSH, prolactin, all the STD tests, LH, and a bunch of other ones but they like doing the Day 21 progesterone every cycle to make sure that i am for sure ovulating. But I have no idea how much the u/s and all the blood work is going to cost once insurance is gone.

My dr told me that 85 million was awesome.

I know it varies, but my u/s cost 245 each. Blood work is usually not too expensive, but it depends on the test. When the RE runs the full blood work up, it costs about 500. They also check to see if you are a carrier for certain diseases, check inihbin-B, and check prolactin levels and other hormonal things the ob/gyns don't check. If I were you, I would ask to have a hsg asap to make sure your tubes are blocked. I know that test costs several hundred dollars (I think mine was 700). Last time my dh's sample was 300mil, I had 3 mature follies, and I still got a BFN...plus I am a needle phobic and I had done 23 shots in my stomach. This time I have done 37 shots so far (2 to go). I really hope it works!
