I understand what Stef said. The difference here is the word "spontaneous", that is the medical term for miscarriage. To answer Anxious, yes you can absolutely conceive again. I did get pregnant twice, 2 weeks after miscarriages. Both carried to term. One of these miscarriage required a D&C. I had another m/c recently and have had trouble conceiving ever since. The difference is probably that with this last one I also had a D&C and there was some retained tissue that caused my hcG levels to stay up and keep me from cycling again. I am also 6 yesrs older that when I had my last child. Good luck and if you do have trouble, talk to your dr. to insure that your m/c was complete.

agree, there is a difference, sponatneous is no control over the baby aborting itself, exactly a misscarraige....you can definately conceive after this, d and c is very important so once you are fully cleaned out it is easier and increases the chances of concieving. i had this in march same situation so trying again, best of luck.

Spontaneous Abortion refers to a miscarriage during the 3 trimester. Yes, it is possible to become pregnant after a spontaneous abortion but depending upon the cause, it can take some time. One common cause is cervical failure due to a preexisting condition such as cervical cancer or from a cervical infection. Obviously there are courses of treatment for cervical failure and women have carried successful pregnancies to term afterwards. Other causes can be placental infections and such. The important thing is to treat the cause and then move forward. My condolences to you and your partner.

Lena, I was told that spontaneous abortion was any loss of the "products of conception" before the embryo/fetus is considered viable, about 20 weeks. Third trimester "miscarriages" are still births. All of my m/c's have been in 1st trimester and I am called a "habitual aborter", a phrase I hate. Could this be a difference in terms in different countries? I am American. I checked my facts on several reliable web sites before posting.
