PCOS and Ovulation

NORA - September 29

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question. I've been testing with the ovulation predictor urine test and most days came out neg. One day I got a sign that I swear was positive but then the next day it was neg again. I though your supposed to ovulate for 3 days in a row. Could I have read the test wrong. I have PCOS and been trying for 3 years now. Dr. put me on meformin and clomid. Can someone please help me out with this because I'm kind of new to this O testings.

I think that with the opk's you only get one day of positive and then you are supposed to ovulate in the next 24-48 hours. Your Dr. should be monitoring you also. I also took metformin and clomid this last cycle and got my first opk test ever on day 25. It is confusing, so...Goodluck!

Oh really. Thanks I didn't know that. My dr. is a quack, he knows how bad I want to have a baby but he is not even taking any kind of test of me. He just perscribed me the metformin and clomid and said to come back and see him in 6 weeks. If i'm not pregnant then he'll treat me with someting else. It really is hard to find a good dr. that cares these days.

You really have to do your research I have learned. If you go in informed the Dr's seem to get defensive. But it is your body and you have final say. This is a great website and there are a lot of informed people out there. There are a lot of great books out there too. You can also do a google search for clomid, pcos and metformin, there you will find all kinds of info. Goodluck and don't let the #@%!$# Dr get you down. Yours sounds very irresponsible and I would find a new one that monitors you closer. Is he a general Dr, ob or RE? How long have you been trying?

I have been trying for 3 years but its only been since april that i found out one of the reasons why i cannot get preg. is because I have elevated prolacin. Elevated to 98. Dr. tells me thats not too bad, second blood work I took prolactin was down to 25 which he says is normal. Then i read up on this site and read about PCOS and asked him if he though I had PCOS because I have alot of symptoms and he tells me yes. So i'm thinking if he knows that i've been trying for that long why didn't he treat me for it. I had to ask him for the meds for my condition. He is my gyn. And yup I think its time for me to change dr's. That's what everyone is telling me. Thanks for your support, it's very much appreciated.

I've been on 500mg metformin for twice a day, but I notice that I get very tierd in the middle of the day so I stop taking it twice a day down to once a day and I feel okay. I'm not sure if being tired on 1000mg's a day is normal and I'm afraid to tell him because all he'll do is tell me to just stop taking the meds but I really want to have another baby, my baby is for and she really wants a play mate. She is always asking for a brother or sister and I feel really bad that I can't give her one and she is too youn to understand what is going on with her mommie right now.

I think I noticed being a little tired on metformin now that you mention it. It may also have to do with diet as well?? I noticed I have horrible sugar craving since I started taking it...maybe all in my head? I have also lost 15-20 lbs on it, I was not too overweight, but a little chubby. I have an almost 2yr. old we concieved naturally...after the RE telling me he was going to have a hard time gettting me pg...they suck! I have lost faith in alot of the medical Dr's. I did find a female who I haven't seen yet, but have emailed her and she seems ok so far. I also posted a comment under pcos, metformin and clomid ... I made a decision today. I am forgoing all meds except metformin and trying eastern medicine. I found a great accupunturist who also got a friend of mine pg (who also has pcos) within 3 months. She told me that she could definately balance my system and get me pg!! Read my post, I have a few more details there. I am giving it all 3 months to see how I feel then evaluate. Good luck... I would also look int femara instead of clomid, it sounds like there are less side effects. But your Dr. may not like you telling him what to do... remember you are the boss!!!

If you are on clomid, then your dr should definitely be monitoring you. God forbid you have huge cysts or something because of the dosage. If it were me, I would go to an RE and definitely get another dr. I hate it when the drs have poor bedside manner. As for O, unless you get it right on, your LH surge can be from 12 hrs to 24 hrs. It is even possible to miss it if it is only 12 hrs, unless you test once in the morning and once in the evening. Since you are on clomid, it may come later in your cycle, like the other ladies said. IT sounds like you are on the right track though! Good luck!

Does clomid cause cysts to come back because I just had laproscopy sugery to remove a cyst on my right ovary?

jcr - September 30

I would hate to scare you, but that is one of the side effects of clomid. I did get a cyst this time around with clomid. The Dr did say women get cysts all the time and it was nothing to worry about. I do have pcos but not with polycystic ovaries. I would definately do a search on femara. There was a thread here with info on it so look thru the passt threads.

NORA - October 3

I've been on clomid and metformin this past month and just got my period 3 days early. Normally my period is 5-10days late. The only problem is that I just flowed enough to fill up a small lightdays pad. Does anyone no if this is a side effect from the medication that I'm on or could it be a sign of pregnancy. The reason why I ask is because my first pregnancy I bled of 3 weeks only to find out I acutually was going through a miscarriage. (did not know I was preg because every test I took was neg.) My second pregnancy took a blood test came out negative, had a cyst removed only to find out that i really was preg. Found out at 2 and a half months that I was preg because I went dr.because I spotted for 3 weeks with no heavy flow Carried her to full term. So I was wondering if it could be a sign or it's just a side affect from the meds that I'm on. Somebody please help me out with this situation. Thanks.

My last 2 cycles on metformin have only been light spotting for about 2 1/2 days, light pads only. I think I read somewhere that metformin can make you periods lighter. My Dr. said the clomid can make you cycle a little earlier also. I am on day 34 right now and no period in sight?? I didn't ovulate until day 25 tho so we'll see. .. I also spotted when I was pg with my daughter and also with my m/c in april. Good luck

Hi, just got back from dr's appt. today and took a pregnancy test and to my surprise came out positive. I couldn't believe my ears. I've been trying for so long and only been on metformin for 2 weeks. Dr. told me to stop taking metforin but i'm afraid that I'll miscarry. I don't know what to do, I really hope and pray to GOD that I will carry this baby to full term. I cannot believe how fast this medicine worked for me. Please pray for me, and for all of you trying to conceive there is hope, Just have faith and it will happen.

Just got a positive on my pregnancy test but I also feel like I have a cyst on my left ovary. I just had one removed from my right ovary in June. I'm scared of whats going to happen if I do have another cyst. Does anyone know. Will the dr. just let it go or will he have to remove it? I really need some advice on this please anyone. Thank you.
