Your doctor or nurse should really sit down and do a "teach" with you. The teach is mandatory at my RE's before they even give you the prescriptions for HCG. I know that doing the HCG shot is somewhat hard to do yourself, and you have to make sure you mix the contents correctly and suck it up int he syringe without air bubbles, and make sure that you get rid of the air bubbles if there are, and then you have to inject it in your ass, while at the same time making sure you didn't hit a blood vessel/vein. Really, you need to ask your doctor, when to do the shots are totally up to him. He should be telling you that.

well actually they were donated not prescribed. SO thats why im not sure how to use. and its $600 more if we tell them were using meds. i have also heard i dont HAVE to do the hcg shot... is this true?

Nope, you don't have to do the HCG shot. It actually assists the LH to spur ovulation. But if your doctor is doing and IUI, that means he is checking your blood levels and that means he can "tell" when you are about to ovulate and time your IUI according to the peaking estrogen and LH surge levels you generate. I have read many times that IUIs with HCG shots do have a better pregnancy rate, so I can understand why you would want to use it. However, if you have a lot of eggs form, you may not need that high dosage of the HCG, (that HCG makes my ovaries puff up and I am overstimulated for about 3 days after, everytime my husband gave it to me.)

Hi, with injection cycles, generally you do have an HCG... cause the system may not be in sync do to the drugs. AND, if you are doing an IUI, my RE will have better timing with doing an HCG shot. I assume you will be calling into your doctor when you start your next cycle to go in for baseline? Gonal F is a heavy duty drug... not like clomid... that you can go unobserved for a timeperiod. This will require a few visits into the RE, with close monitoring to avoid Hyperstimulation of the Ovaries.

bless i really dont think that you should use something like that that isnt prescribed. there are so many risks involved in it like hyperstimulation. also your doc will know when they do u/s if you are on fertility meds because your ovaries will produce alot of eggs and they will ask you if you are on any meds. alot of docs will stop seeing a patient if they are self medicating theirselves so that is something that you need to think about before taking it. there are alot of side effects that go along with fertility meds. if you are really wanting to take the meds to up your chances just ask you doc about clomid or something. clomid is cheaper and it will make you produce more eggs. you shouldnt lie to your doc about what you are taking because if you do hyperstimulate your ovaries then they will know that you are taking something. i took clomid and hcg trigger shot and when i went in for ultrasounds the tech told me that it cause cysts on both my ovaries and that i had 3 or 4 eggs on each side and asked if i took clomid because they know that it is very rare for the body to naturally have that many growing at once. i was on 50 mg clomid on cycle days 3-7 and had ultrasounds on like day 11 13 and 14 so they can tell if you are on something. i didnt hyperstimulate my ovaries but the meds did cause cyst on both ovaries which will probably go away on their own and they didnt cause me any pain but you never know. if the doc doesnt know what you are taking they cant monitor you properly. i hope that it all works out for you. take care

well my RE says i have no chance to get pg unless i use meds. since my dh counts are so low. I have used clomid before and no luck and i dont even think it really makes a difference with my ovulation. Linds99 do u want to chat on

Not to be funny, you dont need help from us you need to talk to your doctor. We can't tell you when to give your shot, with any injection they will monitor it. And if your RE thinks you need gonal f they would have told you how to use it. And when you do iui they do have you to do hcg so they know for sure when you O.
