I have been having irregular periods for 10 yrs now. I have 4 children and after the 3rd child thats when my period went out of wack. Well I been to doctor after darn doctor. I finally went to see an endocrine doctor and she did blood work. Ans she said I had pcos this was October 2011. I figured I had it because I was doing my own research on my symptoms and pcos matched perfectly. So she started me on metformin 500mg twice aday. And December 2011 I had normal period all the way up to may 2012. June, July or August of 2012 I did not have a period at all. All pregnancy test is negative. I did loose 13lbs by being on metformin and my periods became regular but they just stopped . May was my last period. Now let me tell you why I believe it stopped. Being on metformin you must take it as proscribed by your doctor. I stopped taking it for three days. Just started forgetting and as soon as I done this I guess my hormones got off track. Im not sure if my A1C levels went up. But I did gain 2lbs back. So my doctor up the dose of my metformin to 1000 mg twice aday. I done this but it gives me the runs where im going to the bathroom 5-6 times aday. Not good at all because you can become dehydrated. So you must drink plenty of water to put back your electrolytes. Amen. LOL. Now I am over weight and how I started droping the weight on metformin is you have to workout everyday. Well I did everyday but I encourage you every other day and rest 2 days from working out. You must like I did o stopped drinking sodas, I stopped rating white bread and white rice. I cut back on sweets. Add more veggies to your diet and cut back on fried foods. Eat 4 times aday. I tell you you drop weight so quick on metformin when eating right and working out. So quick. Remember mind over matter. Now I just called my doctor because im still without my period so what she lets me know I will let you all know. God bless[…]

I started taking metformin two days ago and am noticing quite a few side effects such as slowed heart beat, feeling sick to my stomach, and dizziness. Im on 500 mg once a day. My husband and I have one 16 month old daughter who was conceived while I was on birth control. I more than likely have pcos (was told its likely by our doctor) and also hypothyroid and Im unfortunay overweight too. We have been trying for a little over a year now to get pregnant. When we conceived our daughter I had not gotten my period in months. Ive never really been regular either so were giving metformin a try. I started taking it on Saturday and its now Monday, but ironically and coincidentally enough I got my period on Friday for the first time in 14 months. Its extremely light but its a start. Just wondering if anyone out there has a story like mine and has success with this metformin. Also to those taking clomid, what was the average cost and how does the dosage work? Our insurance doesnt cover it.

Hello all.. I'm new to the site and I must say, within just a few minutes of reading all of your stories, I just feel so relieved. Tonight has been so rough on me. I've spent hours crying and winded up doung some late night internet surfing.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for a year. I am overweight but I was so sick and tired of these military doctors blaming everything on my weight. I am very active and have been losing weight. Also seeing woman 3 times my size pregnant was even more questionable.

I finally demanded they do their job and give me an ultra sound. I finally found an amazing Doctor who did so. He diagnosed my with Pcos and started me on Metformin 500mg a day. I had skipped 6 months of periods and finally got one with the metformin. I was refered to theinfertility clinic a month later. They gave me another ultra sound and he said my pcos was so minor metformin was no longer needed.

About 2 months go by, My doctor does some test and said my uterus lining was so thick and I needed to be on birth control to get it thinned out. After a period I went in for test they did where they put dye in my uterus to see if everything flowed right. Everything was ok. A montg later, I have a different procedure where they put air in my uterus as well as a liquid and he was able to take pictures (sorry, being so late at night my mind is dcrambled for the medical terms).. my doctorsaid he saw a possible polyp on my uterus so scheduled me for a hysteroscopy.

A week ago I have the procedure and that's where I am now. My doctor said he found nothing but they gave me a d&C meaning they scapped my uterus. I'm still on the birthcontrol. I was only suposed to bleed a day or two after but a week later still bleedingand cramping. My doctor says its not messing up iron levels so its ok. My doctor says my Pcos is there and a bit harder then he thought. He started me on metformin 750mg while on the birth control. I feel sick to my stomach but I remember this from last time. I'm suposed to go on 750mg twice a day starting next week and off the birth control when it gets to the sugar pills which is next week and on the clomid next week. Soill be on 1500mg Metformin and clomid.

So far this is been so upsetting and hard. Tonight i nearly cried myself to sleep telling my husband i just cant do it anymore. All these meds and i still dont understand any of them. We're trying so hard for a baby and im just getting so discouraged. Then hearing of all these miscarriaged scares me even more.

I just want to say thank you ladies so much for sharing your story. I know my story is near a novel, but if anyone has taken the timeto read it all, God Bless you. My prayers are with each and every one of you ladies and I wish you all the best of luck. Im 26, i've been such a big part in many cjildrens lives and I just can't wait to experience motherhood. Ive wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. It hurts my heart seeing all these women having babies and not wanting tjem and here i am making myself sick to just have a chance. I know God will bless us in his time, but sometimes I cant help but to feel impatient. I just have to have fai t h.

Again, if you had the energy to finish my story, i thank you. Good luck and God Bless to all of you.
