Hope, I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about your experience. I tsounds like we are in the EXACT same boat but I am not pg.

I saw your posting about your hubbys sperm.

Hope - May 17

I hope I can help. What questions do you have?

Amanda - May 17

Well you metioned that your hubby had a low sperm count and mot. My hubby level was .05. He had a sinus infection and was on meds when he had the analyis done. He went to the Urologist(sp) and he sd that because of the infection and the meds he wanted to wait 6 weeks and do it again. I was wondering what you all did to get pg. Anything special that had to be done since your hubby had the condition or not. I have more questions but I'll let you answers these first. Also how long did you ttc.?
thanks and congrats

Amanda, We have been TTC for 8 months. I've done everything from Charts (BBT), to kits, to computer programs. I think I was driving both of us crazy. I think we looked at making love more as a chore than as something we used to enjoy. My favorite phrase was " It's time to make a baby". I went to the doctor's in March (Of course I lied and said we've been trying for a year so that our insurance would cover the testing) and my doctor did full testing on me. All of my numbers came back in the good and excellent range. I was definitely concerned at this point because we would never had expect my husbands numbers to come back low. So after I didn't get pregnant the next cycle (btw I’m 31-32 day cycles) I asked him to take the semen analysis. We got the results back on April 28. I was ovulating somewhere between the 27-30 of April. There are probably 2 things that I can say were done differently. First we started making love on Monday, April 25. Which was before I actually started ovulating. I guess more importantly we still made love the night we found out. We weren't stress or it wasn't about "Let's make a baby" It was about love. I certainly didn't want him to feel as if I thought it was his fault. I guess I was more relaxed and we pleasured each other more. They say the sperm and the egg know when they are being manipulated. I also remember that the dr. said the whole process is about BOTH reaching a climax. When the woman climaxes the uterus actually dips into the vagina picking up sperm. Thus helping the sperm along. So I guess that night I didn’t think about getting pregnant.

They tested for volume (2mL), sperm count 1.4 Million/mL, percentage normal shaped sperm (can’t remember) , Sperm motility 50%, Semen pH 8.1 (This is a little high) He goes to the urologist tomorrow and I’m sure they will want him to retest. They say it could take up to 3 months to retest as to make sure the sperm are not from the same batch. I hope I answered your question.

The Dr. sd thathis volume was fine but his motility and count was very low. Also my blood work came back and sd that I had a slow thyroid and a high prolactin level (19.2). We have been ttc for 6 months. I thinking about just forgetting about it. No counting, charting, etc. But I am afriad if there is a problem and in another year if were are still not pg then the Dr would want us to start all over agian and I don;t want to do that. Did you have any probs?

Hoping to hear back from you soon.

When I got hope last night I looked at my husbands lab results and I had some things incorrect. (Still not good). He abnormal results PH - 8.1 Motile 25% Normal Forms 30%. The Urologist said everything appeared normal and wants to retest him. He is getting tested within two weeks and also having blood work done. One thing to note the instructions we had before were that we couldn't have sex 3 days before but not longer than 7 days. The Urologist said that it should be exactly three days. So we have a planned night ahead of us. :-> We do seem to have any other problems. I visit my doctor on June 1st. Have you thought about IUI? Ps. where do you live? (state or country)

Amanda - May 18

The only thing that my hubbys Dr sd was that everything looked ok, (my hubby came home and said "well my plumbing is fine!") and that his sperm volume was good but his count and motility was low. His count was .05, and I don't even know what that means do you?? Yes, I have considered IUI but I really don't know anything about it. I do know that I want a baby and I'll do what I need to get pg. I live in Tennessee. Where do you live? Are the probs you all have with your hubby? You seem to have no probs, thats great!

We're in Maryland. They only did Day 3 testing on me. FSH, estradiol, Prolactin, LH. They all came back normal. My dr. said that the next step was to do a semen analysis, that when we encountered the 1st problem. I haven't done anymore tests.

I'm not sure what .05 means. Did he get a lab print out of his results. The dr. should be able to give him a copy.
Check out http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/iui.html for a quick overview on IUI.
When will 6 weeks be up for you to retest (semen)?

Amanda - May 18

They did the 3 day test on me too. June 28 is when his next semen analysis is. The only reason I went to the Dr in first place is because I have done OPK for the last 2 months and not got the "your O" result that I thought I should have. Now that I look back on it the lines were slightly diff in color but not much. What do you think? Could that have been the "your O" result I was looking for and I was just reading to much into it. (they weren't exact, but close). I had the cm and pretty reg periods. So how did you feel when you found out you were pg???

Hope - May 18

When I first found out I was stunned. I bought a bunch of pregnancy tests from a website (listed below) for about a buck a piece. They are supposed to be more sensitive then store bought and a lot cheaper. This way I didn’t have to feel guilty about checking. :-> I took the test on the 11th and saw a faint line. I thought my eyes are playing tricks on me. I didn’t tell my husband, because I had thought I saw this faint line before. It was two days before AF was due. The next morning I went out and bought an EPT. It clearly showed a +. Now I had to wait all day to tell my husband. I took it a 9:00 am and we don’t get home until 6. At first he said he didn’t want to get excited and wanted the doctor to confirm. Then he wanted me to do another test. So I took the test again, still positive. He slowly began to express joy about it. I'm very happy, excited and extremely cautious at the same time. I just want the dr. to tell me everything is fine and then I want to make it out of the first trimester. What type of opks were you using? I had them all. I bought the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor, First Response OPK and some generic ones that I bougt for .79 apiece. What I like about the generic one is that you only see one line when you’re not ovulating and you can gradually see the 2nd line getting darker. When I knew ovulation was near I would test in the evening as well. http://www.ovulation-predictor.com Test strips. I think it’s good to know when ovulating, but please relax. I truly believe we got pregnant the night I wasn’t thinking about it. How long did you abstain before you did the last semen?

Amanda - May 18

we abstained for 5 days before the test. i used the Answer and Clear Blue Easy Ovulation Test Strips. Do you remember the name of the generic "o" test were? I would love one that only gave me one line instead of 2 all the time. I am trying to relax, I promise. the web site that you gave me, is that where you got the pg test and the "o" test at or was that different. Feel free to email me anytime [email protected]. what cycle day where you on when you concived??

Amanda - May 18

Do you think I should do my BBT?

Hope - May 18

I didn't like charting my BBT because it does clearly tell you when your ovulating only that you ovulated. You temp goes up after ovulation and stays up until your next cycle. So if you rely on it, you will have missed your window of opportunity. You have to chart for several months to see IF you can define a pattern to tell when you’re ovulating. In addition, it makes you think about getting pregnant EVERYDAY. You're supposed to chart if you had anything to drink or the type of discharge you are having and you’re not suppose to talk or go to the bathroom until you've taken your temperature. It was too much for me. Others swear by it. I personally think that if you know you are producing eggs (Yes since you had Day 3 Testing) that it's better to know when you are ovulating. My cycle is 31-32 days long. I have ovulated as early as 14 and as late as 17. During this cycle I believe I was at day 15. They say it should be half way between your cycle, but as you can see everyone is different.

Hope - May 18

Typo - That should read it does NOT clearly tell

Hope - May 18

Yes I bought the pregnancy tests and the ovulation strips from the same site.
