Is it a numbers game?...

Once married I went off the pill I had been on for 8 years. After taking a required NFP class for the wedding preperations we learned of times to sustain inorder to NOT get pregnant..well now we figure those are the best times to try. We have been trying for 2 months now. My period is not always regular, but I usually get it with in 3-4 days of the expected date. Is it true that 2 weeks from the 1st day of your last period is the best time to try?

Every woman has her own cycle. My cycles were 24 days but my ovulation was on different days each month. I would suggest using an ovulation predictor kit each month. It will let you know when you are about to ovulate and you can keep track to see if each month is the same.

Hi hope2B! There's SO much to learn! I would suggest you take a look at fertilityfriend.com if you haven't already. There's a great help page on the signs to watch for and how to listen to your body. You'll notice that many of the ladies here chart their monthly cycles to get an accurate idea of when ovulation occurs. It's VERY helpful - even if you just do it for one or two months. A combination of the ovulation predictor kits, temping, and paying attention to your cervical mucous (yuck!) really helps to pinpoint it. As for the best time to try, it actually depends on your individual cycle. Your period will come 13-17 days after you ovulate (so it's actually around 2 weeks BEFORE you expect your next period). Your most fertile days are the 5 days up to and including your ovulation day. Good luck and happy learning!
