Is anyone else having problems conceiving their second child?

Tammy276 - June 6

YES!! I am getting really frustrated, how about you? I had 2 m/c since my son. He is 19 months old. I had one in August, and one in January. I recently bought the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor so I would know when I was ovulating. It helped out the first month, but now I am using it for the second and it is confusing me. In the same day, one test stick told me I was ovulating, and the other one told me I was low fertility. So I don't know which one to believe. I really want #2 sometime soon, so I can finish my schooling and get a job when I am done. How old is your first? How long have you been trying for #2?

Hi tammy, This is my story... I'm 33, I have a son who turned 2 in feb. I have been ttc for 10 months. A few months ago I had my obgyn do a blood work up and found out I have high prolactin which is a hormone that can cause problems with conceiving. I've been on meds for 3 months and I'm starting to lose patience!! I had no problem getting pregnant last time. I think I'm going to get a second opinion with a repro. endo. Have you seen a specialist yet? I'm sorry about the m/c. My period is due any day now and I've had spotting all week. I go crazy the week before it comes!! I'm happy to find another person who's ttc #2! Brooke

Yep, me 2. I ahve ben ttc #2 for over 2 years my DS is 4 1/2. I had gotten pregnant on my second cycle of Clomid 50mg and had a miscarriage the same day I got my BFP. DH an dI waited untill DS was 2 to start trying (it took us 18 months to conceive him) and everyone told me it would be easier with the second. Boy were they wrong. My AF has been irregular since we started trying and my doc diagnosed me with anovulataion. I am very overweight and am trying to loose weight since it could be the root of my problem. I hope we all get our BFP's soon. Tammy I am sorry for your m/c, dont let it get you down. Did your doc have any theories as to why you miscarried? Lots of baby dust to us all. (hugs)

HELLO, I'M ALSO TRYING TO CONCEIVE #2. MY SON JUST TURNED 3 IN APRIL AND MY HUBBY AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONCEIVE FOR A WHILE NOW BUT WITH NO LUCK. I'VE HAD A PELVIC ULTRASOUND AND EVERYTHING DONE BUT MY DOCTOR SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. ALL OF MY EGGS WERE A GOOD SIZE. I THINK I HAVE SOME SCAR TISSUE THOUGH. THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. WHEN I HAD MY SON, I HAD TO HAVE A C-SECTION AND SEVERAL SURGERIES AFTERWARDS. PLUS A BLOOD TRANSFUSION. BUT I NEVER THOUGHT TO TELL MY DOCTOR TO CHECK AND SEE IF THERE WAS ANY. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I'M GONNA GIVE HIM A CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPT. TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY SCAR TISSUE. WELL, SORRY TAMMY276 ABOUT YOUR M/C ALSO. THATS SO SAD TO HEAR. HELLO MOMMY2JOSH. Hi all, today I made an appointment with an RE. It's at the end of June and the consultation is $300. I just needed to feel like I was being more proactive. I don't want to kick myself if there was something else that would help me get pregnant. Has anyone else seen an RE? Any advice would be helpful.

Hi everyone. I have a 10yr old daughter and have been ttc for about 2yrs. I've had 3 unsuccessful IUI's and am now going in for a lap and then ivf. Dh and I have been classified as "unexplained infertility. I am 35. Brooke, what specific questions do you have about the RE? I'll be more than happy to answer, as at this point of my ttc, I can honestly (and sadly) say I am pretty knowledgeable.

bl - June 8

Hi Galina, I was wondering what the re will want to do first. I know i have the high prolactin, but will they retest all of my levels and then some? I have also have an issue with spotting days before my period comes. I'm wondering what that's all about? I was even taking progesterone, but that doesn't seem to help. I'm hoping the re has some possible answers. How long did you wait till you saw and re? Were they way more helpful than your ob? Thanks for your help!!

Galina - June 8

Hi bl, well here is the break-down of what usually happens: Let me start by saying that an RE is a lot more knowledgeable and helpful than an obgyn. This is their specialty. I went to see an RE after ttc for almost 2 years. I also spot for about 2-3 days before af, and it is absolutely fine. However, make sure you count the first day of af as the day you see "full flow". Now, this is what happens at the RE:
**An RE will schedule you to come in for a cd3 appt. (cycle day 3). On that day, they check your blood for your FSH level (quality of eggs), Estadiol (E2), and they do an u/s to see your ovaries and see how many follicles you have to start with.
** Also, unless you've already had one, you will be recommended to have an HSG, which is where a radiologist places dye into your fallopian tubes to see if they are clear or blcoked. This is done usually on cd9. The test is not very comfortable.
**Then, on cd21, you go in again to the RE for another blood test for Progesterone levels. This test tells the RE whether you O'd or not. So, these are the initial tests performed by the RE before a regimen is selected for you. After that, you go back in w/dh and a plan is selcted for you. Most people who have unxplained ifertility start with IUI with Clomid. Clomid is a drug that helps produce multpile follicles and and IUI is very simple and painless. You go in on cd3, get you b/w, have an u/s and then go back in 5 days for another u/s. Then you keep goingback like every 2-3 days for more u/s. The RE is checking your follies and how they are growing. Once they get to a certain size and your LH (leutinizing hormone) begins to surge (this is also checked by a blood test), the RE will tell you to do a "trigger shot" or HCG. You give yourself the shot, and an IUI is done anywhere 12-36 hours later. An IUI is like a pap smear, absolutely no big deal. Then you wait 2 weeks and hopefully you get pg! I did not choose to do climid and went straight for injectibles drugs, as I have insurance that pays for them. Your chances to get pg w/injectibles is supposed to be higher that with Clomid. I used Follistim. I responded ver well to these drugs and produce lots of follies, however, unfortunately, after 3 tries, I did not get pg. So, now, I decided to have a laparoscopy, where they go in with a microscope and see what is going on inside that a u/s does not show. If something is wrong, they fix it there. I decided to do this b/c I am going for IVF and before I spend sooo much $$ on that procedure, I want to just makes ure that all is ok inside. Please let me know id I can help you with anything else. Good luck to you and everyone on this thread!

bl, where do you live?

bl - June 8

Galina, thanks for all the info. I live in California.

Galina - June 8

Me too. Where?? The reason I ask is that I also went to a new RE & paid $300 for the consult....I live in L.A.

bl - June 8

Wow, another Ca girl! I live about 20 minutes South of SanFrancisco. The practice I'm going to is Fertility Physicians of N. Ca. They're in Palo Alto, close to Stanford. I've heard really good things about them. I just got the huge packet in the mail today.

Tammy276 - June 13

Hi ladies. Haven't posted in a few days. Been busy with work. The doc. really didn't give me any medical reasons for the m/c's. She just said she wasn't going to worry about it yet because I had a healthy full term pregnancy. She just said that sometimes things happen, and it just wasn't a healthy pregnancy. Both m/c were around 7 weeks, so very early. It still hurt, but I got over it. I look at is as there was obviously something wrong, and it was better off happening ealry, than later on in the pregnancy and having a still born or something like that. I think if we don't get preggers this month, I am going to think about seeing a specialist. I got pregnant so easily with my first one, and now all it is is problems!! I am praying that this month will be a BFP!! For everyone! So what exactly is an IUI? What do they all do for it?? What is an RE also? BL. maybe your spotting is impantation bleeding???? I am hoping that this week I will start getting some preg. symptoms!! I am supposed to get AF arund june 19/20. Something like that. Hoping it doesn't show though!! Good luck to all of you! Baby dust to everyone!!

Mrs.Steve - June 13

Yes, I'm ttc#2. Frustrated beyond belief. AF arrived today. Anyone turning their hopes to July?

bl - June 13

Hi , the spotting wasn't implantion bleeding because a/f came last thurs. It's so hard because I did have spotting when I was preg with my son. So every month I get so frustrated! Tammy an re is a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist). I also read if you've had two m/c you should look into seeing one. Maybe you won't have to worry about it, it could be your month! I will send some positive baby dust your way. Mrs. Steve, I'm try to stay hopeful for July. I was in the same boat last week, it's hard not to let it get you down, hang in there!

Mrs.Steve - June 13

Thanks, bl. My dh had surgery when he was 2 years old. Some kind of testicular surgery. He won't ask his parents what the surgery was for because he's embarrassed about it (so stupid). Anyway, I think it was probably an undescended testicle or something like that. I read that if it's done by two then it's usually ok. But I can't help but worry. He's 43,now. That was a very long time ago. I'm a wreck these days. I think the worst part about all this ttc is that PMS and pregnancy symptoms are almost identical...does anyone else think that's a horribly cruel joke from God, LOL?
