I went to my Dr. on Friday. She has scheduled me for blood work, and ultrasound and an HSG. I'm scared about the HSG! I don't have a very high pain tolerance! Also, I thought and HSG is to determine if there is any blockage not an aid in getting pregnant is that right? please help. this is my first time ttc. never thought it would be this hard!

so is it an aid in getting pregnant as well as a diagnostic tool?

I was so scared before my HSG. I read nothing but painful experiences from other. To be honest with you it hurts no more than IUI, and the process is the same. A catheter is fed through your cervix and dye explunged into your uterus. I ws surprised that they amount of dye was minimal and it was really cool to see the dye moving on the x-ray and before I knew it, I was done. My doctor advised me to take 4 advil, 1 hr prior.

The procedure is a diagnostic tool to see if either fallopian tube is blocked. It is said to be an aid in pregnancy becaues the villi (tiny like uterine cells) become erect from the procedure, which its believed helps sperm and egg move towards each other.

Honestly don't worry about it. I would be lying if I said it didn't hurt a little bit but it is over so quickly and the results are worth it if your tubes are not blocked. As advised take some pain relief prior to having it done. I had it done on Monday and it was fine.

yes it is an aid in helping you get pregnant, alot of people get pregnant immediately after the hsg, because the dye they use clears everything if any blockages etc....and therefor helping the sprem easier to travel where it needs to go.

I HAD A HSG DONE ON JUNE 9TH AND TUBES WERE NOT BLOCKED. IT WAS A BREEZE. I JUST FELT CRAMPING IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE AND IT LASTED A DAY OR SO-- I ALSO BLED FOR 2 DAYS . HSG IS TO RULE OUT BLOCKAGE AS A CAUSE OF YOUR INFERTILITY AND MANY WOMEN GET PREGNANT WITHIN THREE MONTHS. IT'S JUST A GREAT PROCEDURE TO GET--IT RULES OUT BLOCKED TUBES AND ALSO IT'S A BOOSTER CHANCE ON MAYBE GETTING PREGNANT NATURALLY. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE THEN YOU SHOULD RETHINK ABOUT GET TING PREGNANT BECAUSE THE PAIN OF GIVING BIRTH NATURALLY IS 100 TIMES SQUARED.

I had mine done on 6/10 and, to me, it felt like a really bad period cramp but it was no big deal. The whole procedure probably lasted 2 minutes and I got to see the whole thing happen on the monitor which was great. I had one perfect tube and one had some blockage, but the radiologist told me that the pain I felt could be from him trying to push the dye through that tube. By the end of the test, my tube looked more open so I think it was all worth it. The pain ended as soon as he took the thing out and that was it. Some people don't feel anything at all so don't be scared. I am ovulating today and am really excited to see what the results are gonna be in 2 weeks! The nurse in the room told me that she has had 3 of these done and every time she has gotten pg. The test seems to help "clean you out" so just take a motrin and don't be scared! Good luck!
