I am unable to conceive....

I am 25 years old and have been trying to conceive since i got married 3 years ago. I never used any contraceptives or taken any preventive measures. I dont understand whats going wrong as i have regular periods on dot. I have gone through the basic tests like ultrasound etc. and everything was normal. even my husband's semen analysis test turned out to be normal. I am sick of going to doctors already and have been hearing a lot of stories about failed IVFs . I am scared of going through those. Can somebody suggest me what step is better for me? Does anybody without reason doesnot fall pregnant?
Heard that unexplainable infertility is most common . Is that true? Please somebody help me out? Is there any way i can try falling pregnant naturally?

Hi lux. I share your frustration. I have never heard that unexplained infertility is the most common. I think usually a reason can be isolated. I have taken the blood tests (estradiol and fsh) and have done the hsg to see if my tubes are clear. Have you done all of those? With the ultrasound, did that confirm that you are ovulating? I also have a regular cycle and my tests came back with everything normal and so did my dh's. Have you tried clomid or an iui? That is what I am trying now. I am scared of the ivfs, too. Good luck.

Hi Ann...thanks for reponding.i have tried clomiphene for 3 months no luck.....My periods are due in 3 days.I am very anxious..each month is like hell for me. I just hope i ever get pregnant .Good luck to u.

I just did some research. It looks like unexplained infertility is the diagnosis about 10-15% of the time for infertile couples. This is after confirmation of ovulation, hsg, and a semen analysis.

I guess we posted together! Have you taken a hpt yet? The 2ww is the worst!! I have an iui on Friday, and I know I will be in hell, too, once that passes. Have you done the hsg test yet?

lux - January 5

i never had a chance to take the home pregnancy test. i hardly get my periods delayed for 3-4 days very few times . when i start hoping for it i get my periods. Thats the worst part. What is IUI? I just gone thru the basic tests and semen analysis for my husband which were normal..didnt go any further.

iui is intra-uterine insemination. The dr has your dh give a sample and they "spin" or "wash" it to isolate the sperm. Then, the dr injects the sperm directly into your uterus. It is supposed to increase the chances and it helps in case the sperm isn't getting through the cervix on their own. In the 2ww, I get impatient and test as soon as possible. The early tests will check up to 4 days before your period is due. You are very good to wait until your actual day!!

Ann - January 5

If you haven't done the hsg, do that as soon as possible. The clomid and all the other treatments won't do a bit of good if your tubes aren't clear!

lux - January 5

Hey Ann,How expensive is IUI...I will get my HSG done soon. I just hope my tubes are clear.
Good Night Ann...i am expecting my husband home in few min...,. So catch u again tomorrow

Ann - January 5

I am not sure how much it costs, because my medical insurance covers it. I am sure someone else will comment! Have a good night.

hey lux and ann! i have the same exact problem as both of you. i have been with my dh for almost 4 years and the only method of birth control we ever used was the "pull-out" method at first. we started actually trying almost a year and a half ago and have not had any luck getting pregnant. i went to see my ob/gyn and she said i'm fine. i didn't do any extensive testing because at the time it had not been a whole year yet and my dr wanted to wait until then. i'm 22 and dh is 23, i have normal 28 day cycles, i am healthy, and have never been on birth control, so i dont understand what my problem is. i have recently started taking prenatal vitamins to see if that will help and i meditate to releave the stress of TTC and i heard that acupuncture has a pretty high success rate and i'm looking into doing that too. i dont understand why we cant get pregnant when we dont have any apparent problems, but i like to think that God has a bigger plan going on for us and having a baby right now isn't in this chapter of our lives. even if that's not true it kind of helps me deal with it. i hope that this year we will all have that BFP that we've wanted for so long. good luck and tons of baby dust!

Ann - January 5

Hi kosi. I know what you mean. It can be so depressing and frustrating when the BFN pops up every month! If I were you, I would have the tests done before you go to any lengths and have your dh get his test too. The treatment really varies depending on what, if anything, is abnormal with the test results, and I would hate to waste any time doing things that won't help anyway. You guys are both still young and have lots of time. I know that doesn't make the BFNs any easier, but it does give you lots more time to try without worrying about those age-related issues!

Hi Ladies...I definitely agree with Ann about getting the HSG done Lux. I was skeptical to have it done & just wanted to be put on clomid, but my doctor wouldn't give me any meds until the HSG. She said the same thing Ann posted about how it wouldn't do any good if my tubes were blocked. Sure enough...my tubes were blocked. From a LAP I was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis. My endo did not show up on the ultrasound-in fact my doctor thought I had PCOS until she got inside and found endo everywhere. All of the testing can be VERY frustrating, but it's so worth it to find out what is wrong. I never dreamed I would have fertility issues, because my periods were regular & I never experienced an symptoms of endo. Good luck to you all!

Ann - January 5

Hi Melissa. I also had endo, although it was "mild" and my tubes were clear. It showed up on my ovary and looked like a small cyst on an u/s that I had for another reason. They didn't know it was endo until I had the lap. You are the first other person I've talked to that had NO symptoms of endo! I always had very regular and easy periods, unlike the symptoms I've heard.

lux - January 5

Good Morning Ladies....Which part of the cycles are you on . So that we can wait for each other. I wish somebody around us gets pregnant which will boost up our hopes as well.

kosi - January 5

yeah, we're going to get more testing done soon...i'm just having problems with my doctors office right now because they're supposed to fill out this form my insurance sent them and they wont, but they keep threatening to put me in collections and i told them they have to send the form back to my insurance company to get paid. as if ttc isn't hard enough, i'm getting problems with my dr's office too <<<sigh>>>. i wanted to ask you what are the signs/symptoms of having endo? i hope that's not what's wrong with me, but maybe it is since we've been trying for so long w/o 1 pregnancy. i also wanted to ask what is a lap and an hsg and what is involved with those procedures? yeah we are still young, but i want to get this figured out now instead of waiting until later when more problems could come up due to age. i have to get back to work right now, but i'll drop back in later....baby dust!

Hi ladies. lux, I am on cd11. I just got back from the dr. I only have one follicle that will produce an egg this time. I am supposed to get the hcg shot tomorrow and do the iui on Saturday, unless something unexpected happens (like the follicle releases the egg on its own tomorrow). So, my first test will likely be on January 19th or 20th, if I don't get af first. She arrived early last month, the witch! kosi, I agree that you should start testing ASAP, so you can have the answers you need. The main signs I've heard about endo are heavy cramping during af, clotting, and sometimes irregular cycles. However like I said, I had no symptoms at all. The lap is a surgery where they insert an instrument through your navel and one lower so they can check for endo and other abnormalities. The hsg is a procedure where they inject dye into your uterus and see if it flows through your tubes. I believe a lap is also used to clear your tubes if they are blocked. Before you even have a hsg, the dr will do blood work on certain cycle days to makes sure you are ovulating and your eggs are ok. That is about it! Hope it helps.
