does taking birth control pills make it hard to get pregnant

I stopped taking my dirth control pills a year in october and at about the same time I started taking different over the counter diet pills to help me loose my weight from my first child. And now i still take the diet pills but I was told that they dontaffect my reporduction ? And I could still get pregnant so then It must be the birth control pills Its all I can think . I am still with the same man and no baby.please someone let me know what they think.
