Hi All! I am in the middle of getting some blood testing. I had my blood tested on the 23 day of my cycle...and all test came back great...EXCEPT of course my FSH (it came back a 1) yeah I know not good...not good at all....but my question is I am having my blood tested again on the third day of my period. Can anyone tell me what they are testing for? My doc told me but he was talking so fast I didn't get it all written down and am now curious as to what will be tested! And its a saturday so he is not in the office and i need to know now!!!! ha ha ha Thanks everyone in advance. Oh and after these tests come back I have an ultasound on Tuesday and a dye test next week also! Gotta love the military doctors..at lease the ones here in hawaii are quick to do so many different tests. I appreciate them so much! Ok thanks again all!

Tiffany, a fsh of under 8 is really good, however you test fsh on cd3--your cd23 fsh doesn't tell you much info. The fsh is likely what your dr will look at then. He will also test your estradiol on cd3. Most drs like the estradiol (aka e2) to be under 80. Some REs also test Inhibin-B--it is another test that can be an indicator of egg quality.

ohh! Thanks Ann1....what did he test for on cd23 then? Arg this stuff is crazy confusing!

That test was likely to test your progesterone level. That test determines if you ovulated.

yup that is what he said when he called me....and he said that it didn't show that I ovulated...something about the numbers being so low..does that sound right? but I am confused because I have a long cycle...around 35 days...so according to my May ovulation calandar I wouldn't have been ovulating on the 23...it would have been after the fact.

Yes, that is correct--if the number is too low, it means you didn't O. That could definitely be the case that they tested you on the wrong day. The best way to do a progesterone test is to use an opk and go in 7 days after it says you O. Have you ever used opks?

opk? as in ovulation kits? Yes once. But I know that the blood tech tested inaccuratly.....We are military and the doc put in the computer to test my blood two different days...the 23 day and the 3 day. I showed up on my 23 day because that day came first......The technician took 6 viles of my blood..which I thought was alot at the time...and he tested me for ALL the test on the same day. The day 3 tests AND the day 23 tests. When I called my doctor for the results he was upset becuase they made that error. So he is still using the results for the 23 day...but I have to go in next week on my third day of my period for the appropriate tests for that day..again. So I was just wondering what they were testing for on the 3 day. and then I also have a pelvic exam on tuesday....which I am supposed to be on my second day of my period so I have no idea how that is going to work...AND I am have a dye test a week from monday! Ahhh infertility is such a blast! :( Thank you so much for all your answers! I appreciate them a ton!

Yes, ovulation predictor kits. When you used them, did you get a surge? If so, the progesterone test should be 7 days past that. As you probably could guess, drs won't always be receptive to your info that your cycle is long so you likely don't O on cd14, especially if your dr is male. I don't mean to be a pessimist, but that seems to be a common problem. Geez, 6 vials is a lot. I can't stand needles. What are they doing for a cd2 u/s? I know they do a cd3 u/s often, but that is usually coming off a medicated cycle to check for cysts. Good luck on your dye test. I have been ttc for over 2 years and have even done a hysteroscopy and a laparoscopy and the dye test has been the worst thing I have done. I don't want to scare you, but take pain meds before you go. Some people say it doesn't hurt that much, and I hope you are one of them!!

to tell you the truth I am not sure what they are looking for. He just said he wants to schedule one and get it out of the way. I got the impression with my doctor that he just didn't want to deal with me asking for tests...so he just started scheduling them! It was a little strange...but again we are military and there are very few fertility/OBGYN that I can go to on the islands. I live in hawaii..very limited! My husband and I have been trying for over two years also. At first I didn't think anything of it but then as the second year started going by I kinda had to wonder what was up! As for the Dye test...I KNOW!! Ha Ha Ha I am not excited! I went with a girlfriend of mine a few months back and she also said it was NOT enjoyable. But ya know if it means I can someday have a little one..I will do anything! Thanks for the pain killer advice...I will definitly do that! Ok well its getting close to super time here so I have to get cookin! Thanks again so much for your advice! I research websites often but they just tend to confuse me. Can you recommend and good books to read? I went to Borders the other day but there was a whole wall of them! Thanks again and have a great rest of your weekend!

There is a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It has a lot of good practical information about your cycles, tips on ttc, and fertility problems. However it happens, it is good that your dr is scheduling lots of tests for you! How nice to get to live in Hawaii for a while. My dad just got back from Maui a couple weeks ago. He said it has really changed since his last visit in the late 80s. Good luck and you have a good weekend, too!
