I am looking to begin follistim injections on 04/11/2006 and wondered if anyone else was doing these. I am not doing an IUI, just the injections this month. Stupid insurance will not pay for injections if I have an IUI done. Just wanted some company.
Thanks

Hi Lynn, I am not takinf Follistim right now, but I did take if for my two last cycles w/IUI. Unfortunately, I did not get pg, but I responded great to the Follistim. Are you going to do a trigger HCG shot or just monitor your ovulation on your own? Is the dr going to monitor your follicle growth, # and size? Good luck to you.

Galina.....My RE does an awesome job monitoring. I did them in August and responded great and even got pregnant. It ended in an ectopic so I took a break and did oral for a couple cycles. Nothing happened there so....going back to injections. I gt monitored every three days and yes....i take a trigger shot.

Lynn, I wish you the very best and hope that this time you get pg with a healthy baby!

Hi ladies. On Thursday I have an appointment for an u/s and hopeffuly I will start my Follitim cycle at the same day. I will be monitored almost every three days as well. Also, I will take a trigger shot before the iui. Lynn, I think we will have pretty close cycles. What will be you Follistim dosage? I think I will start with 100.

Nata - April 10

Galina, what are you taking now? Are you going to try Follistim one more time? Good luck to you.

Hi Nata, unfortunately this last time I was over-stimm'd by the Follistim (I had 6 follies on the rt ovary and 7 on the left). Sadly, the IUI still failed. After I got AF, on my cd3 appt. I had follicular cysts left over, so the drs don't do anything b/c the cysts have to go away. I was also on 100 and then down to 75 and then for the last 2 days, nothing. I got a trigger of 5000 units of Novarel (HCG). Nata, is this your 1st IUI? I will wait for AF to start to see what the dr says the next step should be.

Galina, I'm sorry to hear about the failed iui, specially after an overstimulation. Did you have any pain? When is your af due? Hopefully you will start a new cycle very soon. As for me, I had three Follistim cycles (two of them with iui). In my next cycle, which will start by the end of this week, I will have my third iui. I don't ovulate on my own and that's why I need the shots. How about you?

Galina - April 10

Hi Nata, I am on cd13 today and per my Fert. Monitor, I am still on a low day. I have no idea when I will ovulate this month. My cycles were 35-36 days before the IUI's. However, after the 1st IUI, I never evengot AF on my own and they had to give me Provera and on the 2nd, I got AF 12dpiui. So, now, on a "natural cycle" I am clueless of when AF will come. My dh and I have unexplained infertility. We have 1 daughter (10 yrs old) who was conceived w/ no problems at all. Now, I have been ttc for 2 years. Do you have PCOS or what is causing you not to ovulate on your own? So, you also do just Follistim w/ a trigger? How many follies do you average? It is exciting that you will get your IUI by the end of this month!

Hi Galina, you are already a mom... good for you! What's your plan for next cycle? Will you take Follistim again? Almost four years ago I was over exercising and underweight. Because of that, I stopped having a period on my own. Dh and I decided to start ttc in October, 2005 and we had to go straight to a fertility doctor. Since then, I have had three Follistim cycles (two of them with iui). Yes, I'm excited for starting a new cycle. Although, I find it scary because if it doesn't work, I will have to try ivf and I'm not too happy about that. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I will be 28 tomorrow.

Nata - April 10

Galina, I forgot to answer your question. I do a trigger on every Follistim cycle. In my new cycle, which will start by the end of this week, I will have a trigger and an iui.

Hi Nata, I am going to wait and wish you a Happy Birthday tomorrow :) I just turned 35 and my dh is 44. I have no idea what I am going to do. I am really kind of lost right now. On one hand, I guess I should try another IUI cycle w/Follistim (since I respond so well to it), but the dr needs to do something about controlling the # of follicles I produce b/c I don't want to get over-stim again. I also went for a 2nd opinion w/one of the top dr where I live (Los Angeles) and he was surprised that I was even on Follistim since I have no probs w/Ovulation. He said to me that if I want to be more "aggressive" w/ttc, I should consider IVF, since the chances are much higher. Then he also suggested doing a laparoscopy just to see what is going on inside (I have no symptoms of anything, though). So, I called my OB/GYN, who is a very close friend of our family and she also happens to be the new RE's friend. She told me that she would discuss my case w/teh new RE and call me this week w/a plan of what to do next. I really want to try 1 more IUI ($$ reasons - it is MUCH cheaper thsn IVF) - so if I am good to go for next cycle (no more cysts) than I will try IUI again. However, they may come back and tell me I have to do the lap, so I have to wait out another cycle. As you can see, I am very confused.....Sorry for the very long post...I guess I just had to vent this all out....Have a good evening :)

Lynn - April 11

Hey girls.....so much has happened today. I can only post at night. I am beginning with 150 for my follistim injections. When I did this in August, I had only 1 follicle, did an IUI and got pregnant. With all of my history, he is beginning me with 150 hoping to control this and getting my left side to perform. Galina...How many cycles do you have to sit out from the cyst? Nata...we are going to be pretty close. I am beginning my on Tuesday but they think it might take a while to get my left side to make follies so it may be a long injection cycle. Are you planning on doing an IUI? I however am going to need to rely on good old fashion BDing for this cycle. Keep me posted girls.

Galina - April 11

Lynn, I hope I have to sit out only for this cycle, but it will depend when the cysts go away I have no idea how long that takes, I've never had them before). They will be able to tell on cd3 of my next cycle after AF. What is your ttc history like (if not too personal) and what type of oral med did you take? Clomid?

Nata - April 11

Galina, feel free to vent whenever you want. That's why we are all here, right? I thought Follistim was for women who were unable to ovulate on their own. Oh, well, the doctors sure know what they are doing. I was overstimulated on my second Follistim cycle and I had a LOT of pain. Because of the overstimulation, I had to take a month off. So I know how you feel. Does your insurance pay anything at all? Mine helps me a lot but the problem is that I am not allowed to use more than $15K with infertility issue. Basically, I have one (or two) iuis and maybe one ivf left. Hopefully you will get a bfp with the iui and you won't need to do any ivf. How does that sound?

Nata - April 11

Lynn, yes, I am planning in taking the trigger and doing iui. Will you take the trigger again? Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the ectopic pregnancy. Do you know why it happened? When I took 125 Follistim shots, I was overstimulated. So now I believe I will begin with 100. Good luck today with your new cycle!

Galina - April 11

Nata, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING!!!! I wish you the very best, health and happiness! May your biggest and most special wish come true this year for you!!! I hope you have a wonderful Birthday!!!
