I AM HAVING MY HSG TEST THIS WED, I HAVE HEARD MIXED REVIEWS IN THE PAIN INVOLVED DURING THE TEST BUT MY QUESTION IS IS THE PAIN THE INSERT OF THE CATHETER OR THE DIE GOING THROUGH THE TUBES. ALSO I AM RETURNING TO WORK AFTER DO YOU THINK I WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING SO? AND LAST QUESTION DID YOU GET TO REVIEW YOUR RESULTS WITH YOUR DR BY SEEING THEM ON THE XRAY SCREEN RIGHT AFTER THE TEST OR DID YOU REVIEW THE RESULTS AT A LATER DATE IN THE DR'S OFFICE? THANKS FOR THE REPLYS

it really depends on the person, personally io had some pretty bad discomfort especiall when the dye was injected, i couldnt go back to work, i went home and laid down. definatly take something for the pain just incase. but remember, everyonne is different. and i saw it on the x-ray screen when she did it i was a perfect fill and spill on both sides and i wish the same for you!! good luck!!

Tanner - the pain for me was the dye being injected. The catheter wasnt that bad. I didnt return to work after because I was cramping and didnt feel good enough to do it. Yes your doc should be able to tell you right then whats going on because there is a screen in front of you. Do you know if your RE or a radiologist is performing it. My RE did it he said he knew what he was looking for and it would be less painful. I dont know if you would feel like going to work afterwards. Are you taking anyone with you?

Hi, try to relax about it - I know, easier said than done, and the literature can be scary! For me, it was painful - but only for a few minutes! The catheter hurt me because it was done very early in my cycle (day 7 I think? or day 6? I don't remember), but so early that my cervix was completely closed tight. My OB always does the test at that time of cycle to be assured that there is no chance of pregnancy during the test. The die injection was like cramping, but hard to explain. The whole thing was done in less than five minutes and afterwards, the pain was less than period pains. So, you can get through it girl! Just follow your doc's directions in terms of pain meds before hand, I also had to take antibiotics - but each OB is different. My OB said "this is nothing compared to labour", which made me smile through the tears. Just think 5 minutes or less, then you'll have peace of mind knowing your tubes are clear - or can get any problems fixed. Hope it all works out for you! Smiles and Babydust... T

P.S. My OB gave me the results right away and even showed me the screen - very cool. Also, I have heard of women with no pain at all. I have heard that if the tubes are blocked it's more painful - both my tubes were open, but the left one took a longer time to get the die through. Smiles and Babydust... T

Tanner - unfortunately for me no I went thru 4 months of Clomid and injectibles we just completed our 1st IVF cycle and I have gotten 6 positive bfp's since yesterday and I am 13 days past the transfer they moved up my beta to tomorrow instead of thursday. So for me I seem to be successful with IVF. My only fertility issue is scar tissue from a kidney removal when I was a baby I was born with 3 and one didnt function so after removal and a zillion years later I had a c-section 8 yrs ago and when they opened me up they saw a lot of scar tissue. So my RE said in our case IVF would be the most successful he would bypass the scar tissue and place the embryos inside well... looks like it may have worked will find out tomorrow good luck to you I hope it all goes well you will be fine. Like the other girls said its only 5 min. and your done. Everynight I am sticking 1 1/2" needle in my butt cheek with progesterone and let me tell you I would take the HSG again over this everynight LOL
