Low progesterone

Hi Kelly, I have been sleepy too! Today is day number 28, so I think tomorrow I will take a hpt. I usually have spotting around day 22 and then start on 24. So I think the prog. is working. It has made my cycle longer for sure. But next month I will start the u/s and shots too. Here's hoping you get good news with your u/s. I was taking my temp at various times (whenever I woke up). I guess that was the problem huh? Let me know how it goes and what they find.....Toni

Kelly---I hope you read this soon. How much longer did the prog. make your cycle? I am on day 30......Toni

KellyN - August 26

Hi Toni! Wow - 30 days!! It only made my cycle a day or two longer. Maybe you are pg?? That would be awesome!! For me, I had my IUI yesterday, and begin taking prometrium again tonight. Hope it doesn't make me as sleepy as it did last time. Let me know how things trun out. Are you temping? Have you taken an hpt yet??

Toni - August 26

Hi Kelly! I did take a hpt today. It said neg. But I don't want to get my hopes up. My dr. said if I don't start by Tues. I have to take a blood test. No temp chart yet. I guess I'll try to start one for the next cycle. How was the IUI? And what did you find out at your u/s?......Toni

Kelly- af came this morning. So now on to the u/s and shots! How did your IUI and u/s go? Was your lining thicker etc?

KellyN - August 30

Hi Toni! The IUI went pretty well. It hurt because my cervix was apparently really tight, so he had to kind of force the tube in - youch!! The u/s showed that my uterus lining was much thicker this time. I'm guessing that is because of the progesterone last month, and having such a short af. So sorry af came for you btw! :o( Doing all the u/s stuff is not so bad though. At least you know what is going on at all times, and know that you ovulated and such. What kind of shots are you going to get? Well, I ovulated last friday, and it was really painful because I had 5 big follicles. The doc started me again with the prometrium on Friday too, so now I am sleepy all the time. I guess its better than being cranky, which how I usually feel the week after o. Let me know what happens in your u/s. What day are you going in?

Toni - August 31

Hi Kelly! Sounds like yours in going well so far! I start u/s next Thurs. (day 12). I think when the follicle is ready, they are going to give me a shot to help things along. And then I have to take the prog. supplements twice a day. Sorry to hear your IUI was painful. I wonder if that makes a difference whether or not you have had a baby before? I know the cervix opening has a different shape if you have. BTW, what state are you in? Just wondering! :) When can you take a test?.......Toni

KellyN - August 31

Hi Toni! Sounds like you've got everything lined up. What shots are you taking? Is that something like the clomid I'm taking? I've heard of clomid substitutes that are taken as shots. I won't be able to take a test until next Friday (Sept. 9th) because I had the hcg shot to make me ovulate. If I take it within two weeks, I'll get a false positive. I am in Georgia. How about you?

Toni - August 31

Hey there, not really sure what kind of shot it is. Just something to make sure the follicle releases I think. Like your hcg I guess. I am not on clomid yet. I think she wants to see what happens. I think I am ovulating on my own. The u/s is to speed up the success rate and I know that I am naturally low on the prog. So I am really unsure as to why I am not pregnant yet. I recently switched to my husband's ins. because his actually covers infertility. I am in Texas. Are you trying for your first baby?
.....Toni

KellyN - September 1

Hi Toni! Yes, we are trying for our first. Its been really hard in part because of the PCOS and in part because of our age. I am 36, dh is 42. I feel like its now or never. All we need is one! Sure hope it happens before we go grey! How about you??

Toni - September 1

Hey Kelly! I am 39! I have two kids right now that are 10 and 7. But this is husband #2 and he does not have any kids of his own. So here we go! It is frustrating since I had no trouble the other two times. But now I am older :( . So that was your first IUI right? Hope you get lucky. I keep wondering how far I will have to go in this pursuit. I wanted to have a baby before 40. So that means I have to pregnant by Nov! Did your dh have his sperm tested? Mine did. Good overall, just could have been better on morphology. He is in the fertile/subfertile range. My dr said that is not something to worry about, but of course I do!....Toni

KellyN - September 2

Hi Toni! I know exactly how you feel about being older. I just know my pcos is age related. Its kind of pre pre diabetic, so it was likely caused by all those years of eating junk food. Now I'm forced to be especially good with my meals and get in plenty of veggies. I'm also trying to eat more organic foods, since they say pcos can be caused by some of the growth hormones and preservatives in foods. Its really hard to eat organic when its so hard to find, and so expensive too. Well, for some encouraging things to think about for us upper 30's gals - my mom had her last baby at the age of 42! Also, a good friend of mine just had her FIRST baby at the age of 46! I keep holding on to thoughts of them, when I start to punish myself for starting so late. I'm glad you have 2 kids, though. That ougut to take some of the pressure off, though I know your dh would love one of his own. It would be so great for you to be able to give him such a wonderful gift! How are you doing today?? Try not to think about the november deadline. Deadlines always put too much pressure on situations. Maybe you should move it up to 41?

Toni - September 4

Hi there! I think you make a very good point. I should make my deadline 41! I just keep thinking how old I am going to be by the time the new baby we hope to have will be 20! But that is life I guess! How long have you known that you had PCOS? There are so many people on this forum with that.
Have you been sleepy with your prom.? Countdown to Friday!!!.....Toni

KellyN - September 6

Hi Toni! I've known about my pcos since the beginning of last cycle, when I started all these meds. I was in total shock when I found out because I don't have a lot of the obvious symptoms, but there is no denying seeing the actual cysts in the u/s. I started hpt testing today (11 dpo). Of course it was a bfn, but at least I know that the hcg is out of my system now. When are you going to start testing? My dh (age 42) is also worried about being in his 60s when our kid goes off to college. For me, though, I again just look at my mom. She is now nearly 70 years old, and we are going backpacking in the grand canyon at the end of this month. I think she is in better shape now than when she was in her 40s. This weekend we went to dinner with some friends our age that have just had their first baby. I loved playing with the baby, but my selfish side is just so jealous. I so want to have one!! Oh, and YES, the prometrium is making me VERY sleepy. Dh was commenting all day that I was just lying around, and usually I'm very active - GO FRIDAY!!! -kelly

Toni - September 6

Hi Kelly, Well my first u/s this month is Thursday and that is day 12. I am so afraid of disappointment that I will most likely wait unitl I am officially late to start hpt. So that won't be until the 24th. You know how they say for some people it takes awhile to show that preg. hormone? With my 2nd child I took a first hpt, got a bfn and then waited a few days and got a positve. When it's positive, it shows up fast! The think I have noticed a lot on this forum is that many people "think" they have pregnancy symptoms the day after they ovulated. But for me, I had no symptoms until I had known about the pregnancy for a few weeks. It's just good not to let you mind runaway with you. I love the story about your mom!!! I hope I can be like that too. I workout some and then I teach dance for a living. So hopefully I will stay healthy. Can't wait till Friday for you!!!! I hope its a positive. And then maybe it will happen for me soon and we can compare symptoms on a much better topic!!.........Toni

KellyN - September 7

Hi Toni! Good luck with your u/s on Thursday. I'm sure everything will be fine. :o) How neat that you teach dance for a living! That should keep you in pretty good shape on into your 80s. As for symptoms, I don't bother thinking that anything is a possible pregnancy symptom anymore. When we first started ttc, every month there was some new "symptom" that would make me sure that I was finally pg. Alas, here I sit! I am much wiser now, and have had most all of the symptoms anyway. I marvel at those women who somehow 'know' that they are pg from the moment of conception, and wind up right. I think it might be more that they are lucky enough to get pg as soon as they start ttc. Sure do wish for the day that we can discuss symptoms of pg!! Oh I want that soooo badly. Well, dh is gone on business for a month. He left this morning. If I am not pg this month, I will have to wait until October. The doc told me to continue taking all my meds (except the clomid, of course) through next cycle if I am not pg. That will keep my pcos under control, and ready for ttc the following month.
