Ok, so I'm a first timer and a little confused. I have very long cycles (avg. 35-45 days+) Today is day 60 w/o a period so I'm taking Provera to bring it on. Then I'll take Clomid days 3-7. My question is- for someone like me w/ long cycles and I can never tell when I ovulate, when are you supposed to ovulate with the Clomid? How long after I take it should I start using an OPK?

my RE has me start testing 4 days after the last pill. clomid is supposed to help regulate when you ovulate. good luck!

Thank you! So it doesn't matter that I have such long cycles? If the clomid works then I should ovulate on time, correct? Then if the OPK works, I'll know when I ovulate, so what does the progesterone blood test at day 21 do?

Tiffany......... the progesterone test shows if you in fact ovulated. The number should be above 10 or 15 (i've heard that when on clomid it should be above 15). But it shouldn't be day 21 for everyone. It should be done 6 or 7 days after ovulation because that's when the level peaks. So if you ovulate later than cd14 it should be done later than cd 21. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

Thanks for your response! So basically I should start using the OPK sometime around 4 days after my last pill. Then once I get a spike using the OPK, I can assume I will ovulate so we'll either have sex or I'll call my doc for an IUI. Then 6 or 7 days after it shows I ovulated (assuming I do), that's when I take the progesterone blood test? But for me with the VERY long cycles, if the Clomid works, it should make me ovulate more 'normally' then I've been doing before, right?

Hey Tiffany,
I was in the same boat you are in. My cycles were very confusing, I have only had 4 periods since last October and this last one was induced with Provera and then I took Clomid 5-9 days to get ovulation started. I did the OPK's and not sure how clear they were, I thought I ovulated on cd 12 and then I just got my results for my porgesterone levels on cd 22, and it was only 11.5. They told me that it is good, it should be atleast a 10. But now I wonder, did I ovulate since my levels were not that high? And Could I be pregnant with levels that low? I heard some people have very high levels at cd 21, so what does that mean for me? I hope it works this time, I hate taking those pills...Any answers would be helpful, thank you.

Angelfly- glad to hear we're not alone. I've never done an OPK before, but I thought they were supposed to be very accurate to detect ovulation? My doc told me as soon as I see a spike on the OPK to call her and the next day I will come in for an IUI. She also told me my husband and I can 'try' on our own as well. I'm opting for the IUI this time. Then somewhere around CD21 or 3 weeks after the first day of my period she's going to do the progesterone blood test to see if I did ovulate. I'm still confused about this test. I don't know much about the levels, etc. What does your doc say? I thought that once you got a spike using the OPK that that would mean ovulation is going to happen w/in the next 36 hours or so? I'm so confused. I conceived my son without anything...we just did it and I ended up pregnant. I hate all this stuff! But you do what you gotta do- it will happen for us!! Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.
