Good morning all. Katt, you know the month I got preg I o'd really early like cd 11. The only reason I did an opk was I felt o pains or I would have missed it. Maybe early o is a good thing. RHONDA_ Last time I started the new thread it started slow - eh it is the weekend and it's quality family time for some as in most cases everybody is home. As far as the cm goes I would venture a guess of egg white. Most likely normal, though a pger could answer you better! MICHELLE_ Rascal is just that, lol! Still having a bit of trouble with the separation thing. The vet said a tsp of benedryl will do the trick for weekends and it has helped though I feel awful guilty about drugging him. He hasn't had an accident in a couple days (knock on wood) as he has been going to the door. dh and I are going to get a bell and hang it on a string around the back door knob and try to teach him to swat at it when we go outside in the hopes he'll do that as notification to us that we had better run to the kitchen, lol! I'll send you some pics if you give me your email address. BROOKE_ I hear ya. The only reason I did an opk is because my doc said I was about to O and that I shoul.d have had a positive by now. Funny thing about that day, Brooke,,, it was your opk that saved me! GIRLS_ I do not think I told y'all about this and I think I should or at least I meant to. Anyway, I had purchased the Answer Daily Test Strips w/Cup. The one with the 20pc mini-strips? So when I got home from the OB saying I should have gotten a surge.. The directions say to wait 5 minutes. Negative. So I kept the cup of pee and tried again and again and again - all negative! I just wasted like 4 strips! I had this massive fear that I have totally missed the surge but couldn't have because according to the OB the egg was still inside the ovary!! This was only a small relief. I panic because it really should be positive. I open up the drawer and see the CBE test Brooke sent me and decided it couldn't hurt - POSITIVE! OO I am like so pissed at this point because had I not had that CBE test I would have gone on believing the negatives. I called the company who makes the Answer thingies and told the guy everything and as we were talking I pulled out the used mini-strips to find extremely faint positives to the point of micrscopic, lol and tell him well at 5 minutes that pos was a neg - he sent me a check for $20 in like days! Sorry to run on like that but I in no way trust those little mini-strip thingies. You see this month was crucial in relying on opks because I told my dh that we wouldn't bd until I got a positive and then just keep on a trucking, haha. On the third day though he had so much OT and my day was also a wreck we forfeited (sp). Alrighty then I will leave y'all on that note. I gotta burn a cd for a person at work. babydust!

Katt I found this artlcle on pads.org for you, I thought it might be of help. Often puppy owners are advised to put puppies to firmly bed and then leave them to yell, because ‘once they realise it doesn't bring you back they go to sleep'. This can work - if you have the mental and emotional stamina to keep it up -and it's unlikely to seriously traumatise your puppy.
However, it is wearing on the nerves and, unless your home is in a fairly remote spot, is likely to make you very unpopular with your neighbours. So what are the alternatives?

You could pet your puppy to help him settle or let him doze off on your knee, but then he will become dependant on having your attention while he falls asleep. Plus he has a motive to stay awake as long as possible to get as much of your attention as possible.

Dogs allowed into your bedroom temporarily (‘until he settles') still have to learn to settle elsewhere later on. Or they just stay in the bedroom for years.

There's also the stuff about putting one of your old jumpers in the bed so the puppy can smell you, giving him a piece of bedding from the litter so he can smell his brothers and sisters, loud ticking clocks to mimic Mum's heart beat, hot water bottles* to keep him warm etc. All these ideas are worth a try as they help with some puppies.

(*Don't use rubber hot water bottles. They are far too easy to chew/puncture. You want one of the old fashioned metal or china ones, and use water slightly above blood heat, not boiling.)

However, the best option is to plan well ahead and settle your puppy as quickly as you can using both human and canine psychology.

Begin as soon as possible - in the first day or so - by tucking your new puppy under your arm and visiting the nearest neighbours. Apologise in advance for any noise at night, and reassure them it won't last. Once they have met the puppy, told you it's ‘sooo cute' and they ‘quite understand about the night time thing', people tend to be more tolerant if you do have problems.

Your puppy needs to sleep in a confined area - preferably a crate or puppy pen. If you haven't got one of these you may be able to rig up something to fence off the corner of one room where his bed is. Even a decorating table opened to 90 degrees will do in the short term, though larger breeds may be able to push it over. Put his bedding, a drink and some newspaper in with him.

Most puppies follow a reasonably predictable routine of playing, eating and sleeping. Make sure your puppy spends 30-45 minutes or so before bed in frenzied activity - chasing a ball, or whatever - so he gets tired and starts to collapse naturally. Then give him supper, take him in the garden for a wee and put him straight to bed. (This does mean you have to be a bit flexible with your own bedtime to fit with his sleep patterns for a week or so, but it quickly gets him into the habit of going to sleep without a fuss, so it's worth it in the long run.)

Put him in the crate, say "goodnight" or "go to sleep" in a way that is firm but not cross, and switch off all the lights. (Whatever you do don't make a big fuss, cuddle him etc at this point. It will wake him up again and get him interested in attention from you.) Then sit in the dark - near the pen but with your back to it - till he falls asleep.

As you are there he has no real reason to yell, but as you are facing away he has no attention or feedback, whatever he's getting up to in the crate. He is tired and fed, and therefore naturally inclined to sleep. Generally speaking he will shuffle about, whimper a bit, pull the bedding around and finally settle down. Once he has dropped off to sleep, sneak out.

A few puppies do cry at first, despite the fact that you are sitting there, but it rarely lasts more than a few minutes. Don't acknowledge the noise in any way - don't talk to him, (not to sympathise OR to say hush) look at him, touch him or give him any feedback at all.

At first you may have to sit ten minutes or so before he dozes off. (Don't sit anywhere too comfy or you may find yourself asleep too!) Within a few days, it will just be a minute or so. Once it gets to that stage, start standing up while you wait. By standing a couple of inches further away each day, you will soon be leaving him immediately, quietly asleep, immediately you shut the crate door.
It might help you sleep if not!!!Also I have been thinking, do you have DAP(dog appeasing pheromones)diffusers in the US?These are smelly hormones that you&I can't smell, but the bitch releases them from around her teats when suckling to comfort the pups, and they act as a stress reliever-I use them a lot in my puppy behaviour consults, or for dogs with separation issues. If you want more info let me know.xxx

ROBYN - February 11

Hey girls, nothing exciting here we just got back from a bowling birthday party for one of Anthonys friends at school and my head is killing me from all the noise. It was fun but very loud. Music and lights and all this fun stuff. Anyway KATT - so you got a positive surge if i understand correctly? Did you act on it? As for your and Brookes question do i want another boy the answer is yes. Boys are very easy to deal with obviously if its a girl i am fine with that. Just dont know what i would do with a girl kinda weird considering i am one. LOL. Anyway i have my big appt with perinatologist tomorrow at 1pm so i am hoping things are ok. MICHELLE glad your back thought you disappeared. Well Jason is making some big ass dinner and just left for the grocery store to get me salad so i am going to prep everything for him when he gets home i will be back.

Katt - February 11

ROBYN_ Good luck tomorrow! Um... yeah we acted on it a whopping 2 times. Here is my chart: http://www.tcoyf.com/chart.asp?id=katt4play

ROBYN - February 12

MEL - so the PIO is getting to you already gosh the suck so much. I hope and pray this is the absolute last month you will ever have to suffer again. I am sorry that your dad is starting to lose his hair i couldnt imagine seeing my parents suffer in any way. But whatever helps him. So wednesday is the big day for you i am so happy for you everything seemed so much better this cycle. When it comes to you and your cycles i feel like i do for Mega you deserve this so much you are so strong to keep putting yourself thru this now your 3rd and better be final time. My hubby and I were talking today thinking we have 4 frozen embies and his boys are frozen we were wondering how soon after we have the baby that we go thru it again. I said lets see how we handle a newborn because having 2 that small is a lot of work and one is gonna be hard enough. Anyway gonna eat dinner luv you all.
