Ladies, I will be having a pelvic ultrasound and an HSG monday Dec. 1, 08. My RE advised me to take ibuprofen 1 hr before the procedure. Are there any other special instructions I should know about?

Denise35, what is the diet you are on for women with fibroids?

Denice35 - November 30

Sunshine- The diet for fibroids plays a very important role in the fight against fibroid tumors. You must first understand that there are certain types of high stress foods that support the survival and growth of these tumors. These foods to eliminate are, dairy, sugars, saturated fats, red meats, wheat bread, wheat-based flours, caffine, excessive salt, and alcohol. Here is a contrasting view of the high-nutrient, low stress foods that relieve the uterus of fibroids. milk substitutes, organic fruits and vegetables, meat sources, and healthful grain products. Here are a few varieties from each food group. Soy milk, organic unflavored, unhomogenized yogurt, or low-fat organic cottage cheese, whole organic fruits, organic leafy vegetables, flaxseed, salmon, cod, organically raised eggs, whole grain oats, brown rice, and fresh beans and peas. Also, it is acceptable to start this diet with nonorganic fresh fruits and vegetables. If you can commit to this diet I gaurantee your fibroids will shrink. It really worked for me. I hope this helps, good luck :)

Hello ladies, on December 1 I had my HSG and pelvic ultrasound. I havn't met with my Re yet but the doctor that performed the procedures said that my right fallopian tube was fine but my left one looked as if it had something on top of it. He also said that it had a dent in it that maybe came from the fibroid, but I will make an appt. with my Re soon and see what she says about the results. What do you ladies think?

Hello everyone. I have had two myomectomies and an operative hysteroscope to remove scar tissue. The first myomectomy I had 21 fibroids removed. The second, 28 were removed. Before the second myomectomy I had 3 miscarriages. The last one ended at 14 weeks, which was pretty hard. Anyway, I have never had a problem getting pregnant, but decided to try IVF to speed up the process of getting pregnant, since I am 37. In my opinion, that was a mistake. I was put on estrogen to thicken my lining and as a result, I now have two fibroids. My lining didn't even thicken the way the doctor wanted it to. So, I have decided after reading the book Inconceivable, to heal my body and thicken my lining naturally by eating right, going to a naturopathic doctor and using chinese herbs.

Hi Denice, my fibroid was about the size of a golf ball. I hope I didn't scare you - I said the myomectamy was brutal because I had to have it abdominally and the recovery was intense. Basically, it was like having a c-section without the take home prize. BUT - once you get through the first two weeks, you start to recover quicker and it becomes a mere memory after a month. We started trying 3 months later. It took me 4 months to get pregnant, and now I'm almost 5 months! (I never got past the first trimester with my other 4 pregnancies). The good news is my dr. told me fibroids work in the "rule of 3rds"... 1/3 stay the same when you get pregnant, 1/3 grow bigger, and 1/3 actually shrink. When I got pregnant this time, the dr. said I had 2 small fibroids... again. . But I just had an ultrasound a few days ago and they are gone! My fear was they were going to grow and cause a late term miscarriage. Let me know if you have any more questions... Fibroids are such a tricky issue because sometimes they cause problems, sometimes they don't. My new OB still insists that he thinks my fibroid was NOT the cause of my miscarriages... but I believe having it removed was the only thing that seemed to work!

jaidmaiden-Thanks so much for the info. It really helped. It's so exciting to know that you are past your first trimester. I will pray that everything goes well for you.

Ladies-next week Dec 18, I see my RE to discuss the results of my HSG and pelvic ultrasound.

jademaiden - December 12

Denice, those results from your RE should provide you some very helpful information. Something else I want to mention - Thamani8 mentioned the correlation between fertility drugs and fibroids. I also believe going through IVF gave - or at least grew - my fibroids. I didn't have any until I did my first IVF (I did 2 that failed... then went on to get pregnant by myself). Be aware that Clomid is also a stimulant hormone. If you ovulate on your own (do an ovulation kit), there's no reason why you should be on Clomid. RE's love that stuff because they think it speeds up the process of getting pregnant by releasing multiple eggs... but women with fibroids don't need the extra hormones to "feed" the fibroids.

Denice35 - December 20

Hello Ladies, well I had a follow up appointment with my RE. I'm not happy at all with the results. I have decided to give up and move on with my life. My RE said that I have 7 fibroids and my left fallopian tube is completely blocked and has a dent in it due to the fibroids. She also said that even if I have the fibroids removed, it's still not gauranteed that I will get pregnant. Everything she told me was basically bad news.

Denice35 - December 23

Jademaiden- You are right about the clomid and the other fertility drugs. When I was taking the clomid, my fibroids were causing so much pain. I was already ovulating and have never had any problems doing so.

Hello Everyone,
I have read quite a few posts and I am finally glad that I found a group that truely understands what I am going through. My husband and I got married 6 months ago and were so excited about trying for children.
About three years ago they found a small fibroid in my uterus about the size of a pea I really did not know a lot about fibroids back then and carried on as normal. About 5 months ago I woke up one morning with swelling in my stomach. My doctor did an ultrasound and and my fibroid now measures 11 cm. I was so upset finding this info out.
4weeks ago I found out that we were pregnant, but was very concerned with the size of the fibroid. This week I had a miscarrage and now I believe have not choice but to get this thing removed if I want to carry a full term baby.
Can anyone tell me some of their experiences with removing large fibriods and wanting to have children. I am really scared that if they operate they might damage something as this fibroid sits very close to my falopian tubes. However this thing continues to grow 1cm a month.

Denice35 - December 27

LynnieG-Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Miscarriages are very common when it comes to having fibroid tumors. As far as surgery, the only surgery that will preserve your uterus is Myomectomy (vaginal or abdominal). Do the reserch and make sure you find the best RE to perform the surgery. That is very important. I have 7 fibroids, the largest is 5cm. I also had a miscarriage due to fibroids destorting my uterus. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

trying4myfirst - December 28

Hi ladies I also have fibroids 2 of them they are the size of lemons I had a Lapo in November and the RE said that he wants to do 2 more IUI and if I don't get pregnant by February he wants to do the Myomectomy. Reading these posts I am really freaking out what if I do get pregnant with the Fibroids and I have a miscarriage I don't think I can handle that I have been trying to get pregnant for two years and I have been dreaming of the day that I finally see an BFP. My mother had a fibroid the size of a football when she was pregnant with my sister my sister was full term healthy baby who has a beautiful healthy baby of her own any way my question is do I wait and keep trying like the RE says or do I request the surgery now to avoid any possible heartache?

LynnieG - December 29

Hello All,
I just wanted to let you know what my doctor told me, as this could be going on with some of you.
If some of you have read, I was told I have a fibroid 4.5 inches (11cm) at the top of my uterus. About 2.5 years ago the same fibroid was found and it was the size of a pea. Over the last 2.5 years this thing has grown rapidly and they think it is largly due to stress and my thyroid. As most of you already know fibroids are linked to high levels of estrogen in the body and lower levels of progestrone. Stress and anxiety due to my work they feel caused my hormone levels to be thrown out of wack. My mother has an underactive thyroid which usually thyroid problems are genetic. Therefore underactive thyroid along with stress and anxiety have not been healthy all around. I recently got pregnant with my huge fibroid as I took sometime off of work and things settled down with my stress levels. I just lost the pregnancy at 6 weeks and they said it was largely due to my hormones still not producing enough progestrone, which the body needs especially in the first few weeks of pregnancy. I guess they figured this out because they were measuring my HCG levels weekly and they were very low for being 6 weeks.
I have now decided after lossing the pregnancy that I want to get this fibroid removed as it is large and I am scared of delivering the baby very early and having something wrong with it. I am making an appointment with my doctor in Toronto to see how sucessful removing it will be.

Denice35 - January 4

tryingformyfirst- it really depends on where your fibroids are located. There are many women who have very healthy pregnancies with fibroids. My fibroids are are 5cm. I have one that is blocking my left fallopian tube and another one that is destorting my uterus, which causes me to have miscarraiges. Have you had a pelvic ultrasound and HSG?

LynnieG- Thanks for all your informaation. It really helped.
