LSB, I have been seeing an acupuncturist since sept, she keeps telling me I am young (38) and she says her average patients are 42, with a very high success rate. So one never knows. Have you all been temping?? My temps are still up which is good, so far. My boobs are really sore and am feeling yucky, which I am guessing is due to the change in metformin. I WILL not read anything into it this month. YEAH RIGHT! If I can just keep from peeing on too many sticks this month think of the money I'll save! I already used 3 opk kits this month, and I have 3 hpt's just waiting by the toilet. yeesh. Baby dust to us all.

jcr - thanks about the age thing, it makes me feel a little bit better. I know what you mean about the tests. I am tempted to take one only because I know it will be positive do the the HcG shot I had on the 22nd. I have NEVER seen a positive HPT, mine (of course) or anyone elses.

acklyn - December 29

I had produced 9 follicles on my 5th round of clomid50mg, but it seems compared to other people on the forum that my follicles aren't that big and won't make it. Af due 5th-7th and this 2ww is just killing me, crazily i already chose names for twin girls/boys and already started shopping for baby clothing(neutral colors), I was so overwhelmingly happy when i took the hpt and it said positive(due to hcg shot) though i know it wasnt really.I'm scared i may not be pregnant because i have been getting period like cramps since taking the hcg shot 5 days ago. I was and still is scared that i may never get pregnant after finding out i had pcos, left blocked tube, was not ovulating regularly on my own and now hostile cervical mucus which i'm not even show is due to the clomid.
I had great hope that I would conceive my 1st time on fertility drugs- clomid50mg after reading about people who got a positive hpt on their 1st try but now on my 5th cycle of drugs I worry it wont happen But doctor keeps saying that i have a great chance that i'm young, my eggs are good and dh has no problems BUT then she says she don't want me to put my hopes up? I pray 100 times a day that af dont arrive and that bloodwork shows positive for pregnancy - weirdly i did a baby registry for a few stores already in hopes of having that beautiful/healthy baby or 2 in the middle of septembr 2006.
Hope this is all our month for that desperately earned/needed positive hpt/hcg bloodwork!!!
BABYDUST TO ALL TTC...

Wow, in NC, you did do a lot of Clomid cycles..2 years..I do ok while taking it, hot flashes are really my biggest complaint. I would think if I have to see a RE next month I would move to injectables as a next step. I hope you get your BFP this time. LSB, sounds like both your IUI's were great for you this month! What is the criteria for doing 2 per month vs. 1? I am interested to learn about them, I think that could be in my near future as well. My dh has slightly low motility and morphology. My OB said his count is so high, and both are only slightly low she didnt think it was anything to be concerned about, but he just tested again right before Christmas for verification. I didnt think 43 was "old eggs"!! jcr, your temps being up is a good sign. I dont temp but should. By the time I am waiting for AF I always wish I had since your temps tell it all. I think I have pcos. My OB that I have seen for 15 years said I dont based on her tests, but a endo dr that I saw back in 2004 said I did based on his tests. I did the metformin and glucophage for a few months, then saw my OB who rans tests and said I didnt have it. I stopped taking the medication, but I think I have since started to realize after all this time ttc that I was wrong and do it. I am expecting when I see the RE to be back on it. How much are you taking ?
I've rambled long enough...Baby dust!!!

Guys, I'm confused. I was supposed to ovulate on dec 25, but I "think" I ovulated on the 26th. I say think because I did an OPK which showed LH surge, but normally it feels different than it did this month on Clomid. I had a couple lighning-fast sharp pains in my abdomen, which were so fast they meant nothing to me, then I got really bloated and had an overall abdominal discomfort/tightness. Usually when I ovulate one of my ovaries is in distinct pain for a whole day. This time I only had a fleeting pain in my left ovary. I guess on the clomid I expected to feel like usual, but more intense. Can anyone else describe how they feel when they ovulate while on clomid? It makes me feel like this month is just not going to be my month. Thanks:)

LSB - December 29

Tracy - I don't know if I can help you with that one. I get the HcG shot to ovulate on top of taking the clomid. But, for me I have gotten the all over burning and cramping in my abdominal area (really bad) while ovulating. I have also noticed bloating and abdominal tightness before and after ovulation (the after could be from the IUI, though). Hope I have helped.

CC - Most, if not all RE's recommend 2 IUIs. I can only speak for myself and what I know, but with the "trigger shot" you WILL ovulate within 12 to 36 hours. The washed sperm (I have read, and not asked the RE) only lasts 4 -6 hours. And a released egg (also just through reading) lasts 12 - 24 hours. So, you up your chances of "hitting" the right time with 2 IUIs. I have also read an article that the hours to perform IUI with the most success rate according to a study done in Italy was at 12 and 34 hours past the trigger shot. My doctor does them at 24 and 48 hours past the shot. From what I have been reading on other posts, it seems like every RE is different.

CC...I did not do 2 years straight of clomid. I am been trying since 2002 and with all my breaks, OB prescribing and the RE wanting to give it a shot, it is about 2 years. The RE practice I go to, only does 1 IUI each cycle. They do not feel 2 IUI's are any better than 1 of timed just right. I have asked and questioned before. I was told to stop with clomid since it dries up CM in some people and it took until 2nd RE to figure that out. Sometimes I think all this modern medicine is shot in the dark. I am 37 so it is nice to see people around my age going through the same thing. I can relate to the whole HPT and owning stock in the companies. I have stopped buying them so they were not in the house. I wait until cd35 before I purchase and test. Let me tell you, it takes everything in me not to buy them. I just keep thinking if I stop spending money on those, there will be more money to buy cute little clothes when I finally get pregnant and carry to term. I know I am crazy but seeing a BFN month after month does nothing for my stress level. Until tomorrow...

jcr - December 29

NC, have you looked into femara? I have read some people have better luck with it than Clomid. Especially with pcos and non-weight issues. It may be something to ask your RE about. LSB, my Re also recommends acupuncture before IUI's to help relax, she seems to think she has a higher success rate?? I am trying to decide which road to take if not bfp this month. I have no idea when I ovulated. Either cd 25 or cd 31. I had a temp dip and raise around the 17th, and temps stayed higher, then I missed a day over the holidays and when I took it again it was down a little. This morning and yesterday it is back up high again. I have had alot of ewcm the last few days tho, and opk's never seem to work for me. If I am ovulating this late, then I am giving up before a +opk. It is really frusterating just now knowing. aaaarg. Well let's hope were shopping for baby stuff and not opk's and hpts:)! Baby dust

LSB - December 29

in NC... I have also heard that clomid can dry up cm. I feel I have wasted a couple of cycles due to that fact (when we tried naturally). With IUI however, the cervix is by-passed, so I don't think that the type of cm you have really matters. jcr-.. I was thinking of doing acupuncture but, I don't really know what it is all about, can you tell me more? ackyln... 9 follicles with only 50mg of clomid, WOW! What was the largest size you have had? How closely do they monitor you? Have you had an u/s after a cycle to make sure that no cysts had developed? How long is your cycle? Perhaps it just takes longer for your follicles to mature.

LSB - December 29

Just thought I would add also, that for 2 months while on 50mg of clomid I only produced one follicle and this month I produced 3 and the sizes were larger too. The only thing different that I did was switch from caffinated coffee to decaf. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, but it does seem interesting.

LSB - December 29

OK, sorry to keep talking so much. But, I just took a pregnancy test, because like I said earlier I had never seen a positive one before and I wanted to see what one looked like (because I had had the HcG shot just 7 days ago). The nurse at my RE office said if I took it before 14-16 days after the shot that I would get a false positive. Well it was NEGITIVE! Now I just have something else to wonder about!! Is the shot not working for me, and all of this stuff that I am going through just going to be a bust?!

NC - December 29

jcr....well with my PCOS, I also have the weight issue. I have lost almost 16 pounds since beginning of Nov. so hopefully the doctor will be excited. He asked me to lose 20 so we should be good. LSB...do not get discouraged yet. when I was prego in Sept, I also took a HPT early to see what would happen and it was a big no (cd 26). When no AF showed on cd 35, I took another with a faint line. Waited an hour and took another one (a little darker) and took 2 more the next day (super prego). Day 3 noticed bleeding and everyone (even RE office) said it was okay. Well..it was not and I had an ectopic pregnancy (I am still bitter about that one). So don't worry about neg. yet...wait until 35 and see what happens.

CC - December 29

Tracy, I dont always get O pains, even on Clomid. Sometimes, like this month I get them days after I know I O'd. I think if you O'd even a day later then you thought, if you are timing your bd'ing you should be fine. LSB and in NC, thanks for the info on the IUI's. It does seem as though all RE's are different in procedure. I dont know how the Clomid affects my cm, I dont ever really have a lot of it even while not taking Clomid, except around O. Otherwise, I dont really notice it much. I too have heard good things about Femara, and the side effects are nothing like the Clomid. I also dont buy HPT's anymore. If I get to day 30 I think about testing, but with the Clomid I seem to be 30 days between AF like clock work. Seeing the BFN is really depressing for me. I would rather be in bliss thinking I still could be, then test and KNOW that I am not. LSB, dont think about the neg. If it would make you feel better, call your RE office and tell them what you did and ask why it didnt read positive. I am sure there is a good answer. Maybe the HCG just got out of your system fast ? Acklyn, I didnt see your post last time I posted, but that is a lot of follicles on such a small dose. I am surprised they gave you a HCG shot with so many. From what I have read, most will not if there are so many follicles. Good luck! As for me, nothing new to report. If I didnt know I had already O'd I would wonder, having pain on both sides of my ovaries. Not really all that uncommon sometimes for me though. Nothing else to report (darn) but I am sure if I sit here long enough I can think of something...OH - I got one..Last night I got up at 3:15 to go to the bathroom, and thats semi-uncommon for me. Maybe its a sign..(sigh)...

LSB - December 29

NC - I understand what you are saying about taking a HPT too early and getting a negative. But, with the HcG shot (a pregnancy hormone) the test should have been positive according to what the nurse at the RE office told me. You see some of that hormone stays in your system and if you test too soon you will get a positive result. They won't even do bloodwork until 16 days after the shot.

jcr - December 29

wow you ladies are quick!! Seems like I just posted. LSB, hang in there. Maybe, your body for some reason processes it faster. If you have a fast metabolism, that may do it. Everyone's body process meds at a different rate. Maybe your's is super efficient! Hang in there. There is an amazing book called "the fertility cure" it is all about acupuncture, chinese herbs and natural things. Pick it up and give it a read. NC you should ask your Dr about femara. I know when I decide to take the next step that will be the drug I explore. Clomid gave me a cyst and I didn't respond well. Just food for thought. Let's all rub our bellies for a little love and luck!!
