I'm just wondering if any of you have been taking Tamoxifen and if it has worked. My ob said their office has a higher success rate with it than they do with Clomid. Thanks.

Cooper5450 - December 14

Hi KitCat - I used tamoxifen with the ovridel trigger shot on my last 2 IUIs. My first time using it, I didn't get pregnant. Not only that but it didn't stimulate my follicles. Mt current cylce now, I used it and on CD 10, I went to my RE and I had 3 follicles. 2 were smaller and there was 1 dominant one at 22.5MM. I had the trigger shot and then the next day I went in for my IUI. Right now I am in the 2WW. I have my beta on 12/22. I am really hoping that I will see a BFP. Let me know if you have any questions. My RE did tell me that tamoxifen is better for your lining whereas I have read that clomid is not as good. What are your plans? Good Luck!!!

KitCat - December 14

Hi Cooper.....thanks for answering my post. I have used clomid in the past and a thin lining was a big problem for me, along with the terrible side effects. The size of my follicles and the cycle day didn't match up with the thickness of the lining. I took 100mg clomid april-august. I am not seeing an RE and don't plan on it either. Dh and I are an older couple and have a 7 y/o ds and are almost thru ttc. We're giving it a couple more months or so. I've had 8 m/c's throughout my ttc years and it's put quite a toll on us both. I went to see my ob this morning and since I am overweight she suggested that I try to lose a little in the next month and excersize more. She also gave me a Rx for slow release glucophage as I have some insulin resistance. Next month we will see about the Tamoxifen and maybe the trigger shot. I'm not even sure if they do the shots there or not. That office is very strict on just how far they will take things. Dh and I have been talking of becoming foster/adoptive parents also. Lots of talking still to do though. It would just be so much easier if I could get pg again. I never had a problem in the past, and now I do. Again....thanks for the info and good luck to you also!

nic - December 17

I use Clomid and Tamoxifen together. And I think I got a BFP this morning.

Cooper5450 - December 17

Nic - Congrats on the BFP. Did you use both clomid and tamoxifen in the same cycle? Did you have a trigger shot? How long have you been ttc? I think that if this IUI didn't work for DH and I, we are going to move onto injectibles with the IUI. I am not looking forward to having to deal with needles but whatever it takes for DH and I to have a baby. That is what we both want for the holidays! I hope that everyone is doing well and that we all see BFPs in our near future!!!

Hi Girls, mind if i join you here? Just having a read through a few threads and was so pleased to see somebody asking about Tamoxifen. My doc has just put me on Tamoxifen as Clomid didn't work for me. I have low progesterone levels and therefore fail to release my eggs on each cycle. Am now on my first month of Tamoxifen but haven't a clue about success rates or what makes this drug so different from Clomid? My doc was only a registrar and was told to put me on this,he could not answer many of my questions! I am taking 40mg Tamoxifen on days 2-5, this is my first cycle and am currently on cd10. DH and I have been ttc for about 4 years now and it is all i ever think about. Am praying it will work for me as next step after this would be IVF. Lots of luck to you all!

Cooper5450 - December 20

Hi Long2bemum - How are you? My RE told me that tamoxifen is better for the lining than clomid. This was the 2nd time that I have taken it. DH and I have been TTC for almost 2.5 years now. The first time that I took tamoxifen it didn't really work for me. I took it from CD 4-9. I only had 1 follicle at 17.5MM. This time I did the same CD4-9 and on CD10 I saw on my Clear Blue Easy monitor that I had 2 bars which is high fertility. I called my RE and they told me to come in that day. My U/S showed that I had 3 follicles. 1 was dominant at 22.5MM. They gave me the ovridel shot that day and I had my IUI the next day. I am now in the 2WW. I go for my beta this Friday. I have been really good and have not taken an HPT. I really hope that this is my month. However, if this doesn't work then my RE is probably going to use injectibles with an IUI. That costs a lot more money so I am really hoping that this works for me. I am in the same boat as you that all I can do now is think about getting pregnant and being a mom. I can't help but be jealous of all the women who don't have to do anything and get pregnant so easily where DH and I have been trying for so long. Let me know how you are doing. Try to stay positive!!!

nic - December 20

Cooper5450, we have been trying for 5 years to have kids. I take the Clomid and Tamoxifen together for 7 days starting from either day 3 or day 5 of my cycle. Yes, I had the trigger shot, though I don't always. I had 5000 HCG followed by another 5000 HCG a week later, ostensibly to support the pregnancy if fertilisation took place. But it's all for nought.... I'm losing this pregnancy. It's the 7th miscarriage I've had. No live kids. Yes, it's bloody difficult. I'm 34 and time is running out.

babs - December 20

Hi, hope you don't mind if I join you guys? Firstly, Nic, I'm so sorry for all your loss, I had a m/c early this year, and one was awful, so I can't imagine what you must be feeling. I have been prescribed Tamoxifen, which I will start taking in the new year. I was on clomid, which worked for me on the first cycle, but that pg ended in March. After that, clomid doesn't seem to have worked at all. I've had a few months off, and in Jan we'll start again with Tamoxifen. My consultant said that it has less side effects than clomid (I got really bad skin, and put on qiute alot of weight). Good luck to all of you, hope we all get the news we want asap!

Cooper5450 - December 20

Nic - So Sorry to hear that you are losing this pregnancy. What did your doctor say? I really hope that they will be able to tell you something. 7 MCs is terrible and so emotionally draining. I can't even imagine to know how you are feeling. DH and I have been ttc for almost 3 years now. It was on and off for a while and this year we went to see an RE. It gets harder and harder each month. I am 32 and will be 33 in March. I am still in the 2WW right now. Friday is my beta and I have not taken an HPT. I just want keep the dream alive for a few more days that I will see a BFP. I think that is the reason as to why I have not taken and HPT. I just don't want to be disappointed again. Keep posting if you need to vent. Babs - Thanks for the well wishes. Good Luck with the tamoxifen as well. I hope that it works for you. Let me know if you have any questions...

KitCat - December 24

Hi ladies.....today is 5dpo for me, yet this month I was not on the Tamoxifen. If I am not pg, then I will take it in Jan. I was also told by my ob that it doesn't have a bad effect on your uterine lining like clomid does. That may be a reason for all of my losses too. nic.....soooo sorry to hear about your current pg. I know how difficult a time it is for you right now and that there is really nothing anyone can say to comfort you. I have had 8 m/c's with one of them being an ectopic pg and the longest one had went to 14 weeks. The others were all lost before 10 weeks. I do, however, have a 7 y/o ds who is healthy and I thank God for him every day. babs and Cooper, I am sorry to hear of your losses also. It is sooo difficult. Cooper....have you tested yet??? I'm curious to know. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas. xo

KitCat - December 26

Hi ladies....8dpo for me today. Any of you tested yet or not? Some of you should be due to test or for af by now. Let us all know. Take care.

babs - December 30

Hi Guys, Just checking in really. Had a wonderfull Christmas (finally got my engagement ring which was a big surprise!) We've had such a great week (compared to such a very rubbish year??!!) that we decided that I should start my tamoxifen early. I don't get regular periods so my consultant told me to just start taking it when I was ready, as long as I was sure I wasn't pg/ Well, made sure that BFN (as if I'd manage a BFP on my own!!) and started the pills. I'm on 60mg CD2-6, I think that's quite a high doseage, so hopefully it'll do the job first time round! We've set a date for the end of Feb 2008 to get married, so if we're having a baby before then, then I need to hurry up!! Have had some very light bleeding from taking the tamoxifen, but it doesn't worry me, makes sense really that that would happen! IF any of you have any more info then I'd feel a bit more relaxed about it all! Thanks! Hope you are all well. Oh yeah, forgot to say, was my sister's birthing partner last night, WOW! Healthy little boy, tried my best not to get to emotional! Was amazing. Hope we all keep messaging. Baby dust,x,x,x,x

KitCat - January 5

Hi ladies.....was just wondering how all of you are doing. Did any of you get a bfp yet???? Af came for me on Jan. 1st, so today is cd4 and my second day of taking the Tamoxifen. So far no side effects, which is great! I was wondering what dosage all of you take? Mine is 20mg/day on days 3-7. Hope to hear from you all again soon. Take care and good luck. xo

babs - January 5

Hi, I started taking my tamoxifen on the 28th Dec, I was on 60mgs on CD2-CD6. Sounds like alot, I know!! Just hoping it will work. No side effects at all, which is wonderfull, got really poorly and fat with clomid, so this is such a treat! Today is CD10, and I think I might be getting slight "O" cramps, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much! Would love to hear how you guys all get on. Baby dust to you all.
