Recovering Anorexic trying to conceive

Hopeful K - April 30

I'm currently recovering form Anorexia & am doing pretty well. My weight is healthy (at the lower range of healthy but still it's ok) & I'm eating well & exercising by jsut walking for 40 mins per day. I came off my pill 5 weeks ago & have not yet had a period. I must admit I'm confused by it all & was wondering if someone could explain to me, if because I'm not having a period does that mean I can't conceive until I do or can you still conceive? Sorry if I sound pathetic asking but I'd like to understand it all so I know what to expect.

Hi you don't sound pathetic at all, I am sure you will be fine, you just need to make sure you keep your body healthy, maybe wait until you have a few normal periods and maybe talk to your doctor about this and see what they say, I am sure this isn't the first time they have every heard this, I wish you the best!!

Hi K. Congratulations on your road to recovery! I struggled too in years past and went for months without ever having a period. It is going to take some time for your body to regulate (maybe months not just weeks). Don't get discouraged if you don't have a normal cycle right away, it will happen, but your body is still in recovery right now. Once you start ovulating you can become pregnant. Most average women take some time (~ 3 months or so) after coming off the pill to regulate anyway. So like cspears said keep your body healthy and you'll be on track. Now is a good time to read info on this and other sites about how and when conception occurs (of course you know the basics but there is a lot to it!). Many ladies also chart their temperatures and cervical mucus as indicators of where they are in their cycle - go to fertilityfriend . com (remove spaces). Good luck and congratulations!

I can totally understand where you are coming from. I used to be anorexic. I still sometimes wonder if it has something to do with the problems I have concieving now. I was anorexic from age 19 to 21. And in those 2 years, I never had a period. But I wasn't trying to concieve, either. It's been over 2 years now, that I have been living a healthier lifestyle, and my cycles still aren't exactly regular, but I do get a period every month, now. But I have been trying to concieve for almost 2 years without success. It takes awhile for your period to regulate when you are recovering from anorexia. Just give it some time, I bet you will start having a period soon.
