Hi, I know I'm well over a year late, but I just saw this post & wanted to reply! YES, you can have PAIN FREE proges. injections. I have a needle phobia & did two rounds of IVF & could not have done it without a prescription for an ointment the nurse called "Emla cream" it is a Lidocaine/Prilocaine combination (may even have a third drug in it)and my insurance covered it. I would apply it about 10 minutes before the injection, cover it with saran wrap (it will bleach fabric)and after 10 minutes or so hubby would inject me & I literally didn't feel a thing!! I'm soo upset that these fertility Dr.'s or thier Nurse's for that matter, don't automatically include this with your Rx's! We experience soo much pain & discomfort as it is with ART, why the heck should we be tortured (for 10-12 weeks if pregnant)with a painful injection like progest. twice a day? My fertility Dr. actually had the audacity to say to me "you can't expect this to be easy or pain free", to which I replied "I EXPECT to not suffer needlessly & I am perfectly willing to suffer for the sake of getting pregnant, but not over something as simple as this! Hope this helps! BTW, EMLA cream can be bought over the counter in Canada.
Sorry for venting, but as you can see, I feel quite passionate about this topic! ;)
