Hi everyone! I was looking into HSG and came across you guys--what a treat! My re scheduled an HSG for me on 6/22. Does anyone happen to know of any good websites that explain the procedure, etc? Also, do any of you have any experience with repronex/menopur injections? How about progesterone supplementation after ovulation? Please let me know if you have any insight.

I had my HSG done this morning, and it wasn't bad at all; tubes are open. It was over before I knew it. It was a little uncomfortable, and I felt a little pressure when he injected the dye, but that was it. I took two motrins 1 hour before and two half and hour before. Thanks for your thoughts! Good luck to everybody.

I had an hsg over a year ago that was totally normal and am now scheduled for another one next Wednesday. The RE is using the oil based dye and doing it strictly as a fertility treatment. Anyway, hoping this one goes better than the last as it was very unpleasant! LOL! The 3 alleve didn't help a lot, so I am going to ask them to give me something this time around.

Hi Ladies. First of all, I want to thank you for your comments. They have been very helpful. I am scheduled for an HSG test on Monday. I'm a bit nervous, mainly because I don't want to get any bad news....is that normal? I have a daughter, and my new husband has a daughter as well. We have been trying (at least not using birth control) for over a year. I'm 34 and he is 29. Reading your stories gives me hope, but makes me a little scared as well. I don't want to get my hopes up too high and I'm scared to death they will say my tubes are blocked. Does anyone have any advice? Any similar feelings leading up to the test? How did you deal with it? Baby dust to you all........

Hi, MommyDreams, I'll have an HSG next Monday too. I'm 32. I've never got pregnant. Hopefully, both of us will be OK. I just found this website, some of the stories are very encouraging!

I'm 34 & scheduled for my first HSG July 12th & the wait is the WORST part of it I'm sure! Reading everyone's posts have taken alot of pressure off of me, thank you soo much. My first round of clomid is starting July 6th. My DH's SA came back great, so far my SP levels are low & my periods are only 25-26 dys. I had a good U/S June 14th. Praying for a sweet pregnancy!

Hey guys! I went in for my HSG this morning and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be-although it certainly wasn't pleasant, either! The only word of advice I can give is to relax, but that's obviously easier said then done. I was very nervous and tense and my doctor kept telling me to relax. I honestly think it wouldn't have been quite so unpleasant if I hadn't been so tense. I did feel some cramping when he injected the dye, but the most painful part for me was in the beginning when he was cleaning off my cervix. It went quickly, though, and everything came back fine-no blockage. I go in for a baseline ultrasound in two weeks and will then start injections. Good luck MommyDreams, Chocho and Kristin 150. Let us know how everything goes!

I had my HSG this morning. The worst part is when she was trying to insert the catheter. It was really painful. After that, everything went well. My tubes are open!

Hi ladies! I will have my first HSG in early July "if" AF arrives. Today is day 23 of my cycle. One question for all of you, did your dr. use the oil or water dye? My RE says he will use the water because of the risks of the oil. However, I hear the oil dye is the one that is most beneficial in becoming pg shortly after. Any thoughts?

NicoleM - July 2nd, 2007 10:26 PM

Hi Sherry, I just had my second hsg last week. The first one (1 1/2 years ago) was done with the water based dye. It was done by my ob/gyn. The one last week was done by my RE. He swears by the oil based dye and says it increases pg chances much more than the water dye for unexplained infertility and especially for endometriosis (mild to moderate). Anyway, if your doctor uses a catheter instead of the cannula and tenaculum, you will probably not be too uncomfortable, but take some ibuprofen or alleve beforehand. Good luck to you!!

Hi Ladies...I had my HSG on Monday, and my tubes are open! It was painful but over quickly, and the good news that my tubes are not blocked made it worth it. At least I can scratch that one off my list. I was very relieved, because I stressed about this test.........baby dust to you all......

Nicole and Sherry-You ladies were wondering about the success of water-based vs. oil-based HSG...I found a great study from year 2000. You can see the link, but basically of the 622 ladies in the study, 20.4% of the ladies that had the water-based HSG went on to have a live birth, and 19.4% went on to have live births after an oil-based HSG...so really the rates are really close (and in this study the water-based had a higher rate without the risks involved with the oil-based HSG).

We've been ttc for about a year now. I am going for bloodwork this month AND my first HSG is scheduled for Friday the 13th! Ahh...I am scared! Anyway, it is encouraging to read your posts. I am hoping for a miracle! Good luck to all.

sherryz - July 7th, 2007 7:21 PM

Soup25....my hsg is also scheduled for this Friday (13th). Didn't even think about the date. We just got back from a beach trip (I started on Thursday)! I was really upset, but now have to be positive for this month. I'm going for my bloodwork on Monday, then hsg at 2:00 on Friday. Good luck to you!!! Are you having the water or oil based dye?

MollieM - July 8th, 2007 1:07 AM

Hello there I have been ttc for a year, and am now on round 2 of clomid. RE will not order an HSG because he feels that the trouble is PCOS. I agree with the diagnosis, but should I rely on his expertise, or demand an HSG? And, should I ask for a post-coital? What do you all think?

soup25 - July 8th, 2007 11:43 PM

Hi SherryZ! I started Saturday and was really upset. I am going for bloodwork Monday too, and my HSG is at 3:00 on Friday. I have no clue if it will be the water or oil. How nice to know I won't be alone in my experiences this week though! Take care.
