Plus size and trying to conceive?

I am a plus size girl who's been trying to get pregnant for several years now. I keep hearing stories of how I should lose weight before trying. My doctor finally started me on Clomid today. I take 50mg on days 5-9. I know I'm overweight, but have no health problems. Are there any success stories involving women who are plus size taking clomid?

Hi grlnxrdoor, I haven't been pg but I can appreciate how you feel. Have you been to a specialist and had any blood tests? I am 43 years old and my biggest obsticle is my age but I am also overweight and have been told it wld be better to lose weight. The only thing is I am also a type 2 diabetic and have to keep my blood sugar controlled also. Anyway good luck to you...lots of sticky baby dust coming your way...Sam

I have had blood tests and everything is normal. I have no insulin resistance and have no problems with thyroid either. The only problem is just not ovulating and supposedly my weight. My deal is, Ive seen several overweight women (one I know of who was 400lbs) who got pregnant and had no complications. I weigh 280 and see no reason why I couldn't get pregnant on Clomid. I'm hoping it works for me. Thank you so much for your comment and I wish you the best!!

hey there. I am overweight and have been on clomid for 2 months now. I do ovulate on my own ( at least most of the time) I just kill off my husbands sperm. You should try to go to a specialist because I went to my dr. after my hubby and I had been trying for over a year and she told me I wasn't ovulating because of my weight. She sent me to a fertility specialist and they did an u/s that day and said I was ready to ovulate. So just because you are overweight does not mean you can't get pg. I weigh 300 and my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) said absolutely nothing about my weight. I haven't gotten pg yet. I just had my second IUI ( because I kill of hubby's soldiers) on clomid (50mg days 3-7) I am currently on the 2ww, will know around May 15.

What kind of test do they run to see if I'm killing the sperm? My OBGYN said nothing of this. Good luck!!

They do a post coital test. I was lucky and was about to ovulate when we first went in so they went ahead and did it. When they looked they said all the sperm were dead, and my husbands count is very good. I would try to go to a specialist they are so much more helpful. How long have you been trying?

Gosh, I've been trying for atleast 4 years. However, this is the first time being put on a fertility regimen. I've been yearning for a child for so long now and I'm just not willing to give up.

I understand. I got pg back in 2003 (m/c 7wks.) and it seemed like everyone, including my sister, got pg right after that. Right after the m/c I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis so we could not try for a while, then my hubby joined the air force so we had to wait even longer to try. Now we are hoping I get pg. before he deploys the end of Aug. I would definately look into a specialist if you have been trying that long. They are really helpfull.

I will definitely look in to it. I hope everything works out for you!

Hi there, I am also plus size, size 22. I have had 3 kids naturally. I am ttcing my 4th. I concieved no problem, but ran into problems with BP and sugar due to my weight. I also had 3 sections. The weight makes it more difficult but it is doable! Good luck.

I am also plus size 20 and I am now 7weeks pregnant! I had no troulbe getting pregnant used clomid in feb. got pg had a m/c and cyst got pg again in april had my first u/s today and all is well. My RE never said anything about my weight I'm sure when I get to my OB she will have something to say but size I don't think affects anything. You just keep trying and praying! It can and does happen!

lovemy3-You had no difficulties getting pregnant at all? This is why I don't understand why they keep telling me its my weight as to why I'm not getting pregnant. I know that all of our bodies are different, but its still upsetting to see people my size get pregnant with no problem, yet for me its so difficult.

Thank you so much wantanotheraftertr!!

Jlee...your story and mine are almost identical...except for the ra. Grlnxtdoor, I would highly suggest seeing an RE instead of just an OB. I am also plus sized (although I like to think of it as "fluffy") and have no problems ovulating. I was just killing off my hubby's swimmers. Like Jlee, we went to an RE right at O time and so we did a post-coital test (pct)...all were dead. So, we had hubby checked...he was fine. So, we did IUI. We have been doing that since. I was beginning to get a little down since nothing was working, but after doing some other tests, we did a lap/hyst surgery and found out that I had tons of adhesions and my right tube was wrapped around my right ovary. Now that all is cleaned up, things should result in +++! Although my RE did tell me it would be a good idea to lose weight, it was because of the fact that you have to gain weight with pg and I would probably run the risk of gestational diabetes. But, she said nothing about my weight being a factor with my infertility. Really...the pct is easy...my hubby loved being told we "had" to go home and have sex. Then, it is just like a normal pap...they look at it under a microscope and are able to tell if the sperm are living, if they are swimming the right way, and if you have "good" mucus. I don't know about Clomid because I am not on it and my RE has not mentioned it yet...so we will see. Good luck to all!!!

Has anyone my size gotten pregnant on there frist cycle with clomid at 50mg?

mommy2josh - May 3

grlnxtdoor022, I conceived my son in May 2001, I was 207 pounds at my first appointment. I have now been ttc#2 for over 3 years. Are your cycles regular? My aren't, so that is where my problem comes from. My RE feels that weight is not an issue unless you have elevated estrogen or testosterone levels. Good luck to you :)
