Off bc pills for 5months-abnormal uterine bleeding

Stopped bcp 5mos ago to try to get pregnant. First two periods were normal. On the 3rd month, I got a period(?) that lasted for 9weeks. My dr put me on aygestin (progesterone only pill). The bleeding stopped right away. I'll continue this for 10days in hopes of reregulating my cycle and stimulate ovulation. Anyone have similar issues, advice?
