Hi, my name is Judith. This is my story so far: trying to get pregnant from may 2006, been on the pill for 10 years. Irregular menstral cycle after that (between 4 and 8 weeks), no indication of ovulation with the hometests or with the BBT. All the bloodwork is normal (so also thyroid, LH, FSH, Prolactine). They didn't check progesteron, is there anybody who has had that checked? Because that can tell you if you are ovulating doesn't it?
Today I had an pelvic US; a lot of small follicles, no corpus luteum. But with normal LH/FSH and the fact that i am menstruating doesn't that mean i must be ovulating?

Do you know if there is evidence that the birthcontrol pill might affect the ovulation when it is discontinued?

Anyway, if nothing happens, i will start clomid in june. Is there anybody who recognises this situation and who wants to share thoughts?

Hi Judith. I don't have any advice, but I'm about in the same boat. I'm been off birth control since 11/05. Since then have have very irregular periods. All my blood work seems fine so far. I have another appointment with my Dr. tomorrow to see what can be tested next, or whether we just want to try clomid. When I had my blood work done, they drew on cd3. And they said I didn't ovulate that month anyhow. So I know you can have a full mentrual cycle and still not ovulate. So what is corpus luteum?

Hi! Thank you for your answer, makes me feel i am not alone! I would be surprised if they put you on clomid so soon. My dokter told me i would have to wait untill it has been a full year. Which i do not necessaraly disagree with by the way, not for me anyway. But i do get impatient sometimes :)

A corpus luteum (i'm sorry, i'm not english, so i don't know if there is another term for it) is a structure in your ovaries that forms after you ovulate. They can see it on US, and if they do it is a sure sign that you are ovulating.
I'm curious what your dokter said!

Sorry rrc, i believe i read the date you mentioned wrong. You probably mean november 2005? Than the clomid would deffinately not be too soon!

i have a non ovulation problem too, but mine started out of the blue. i went of bc pill sin dec 05 and had normal periods for about 3-4 monthes then one month they just got lonegr and longer and three monthes later they stopped completely and i've never had a period without provera or ovulated. i tried two monthe sof clomid and it didnt produce big enought follies, i was then sent to specialist who ordered every bw, sa for hubby, and hsg, everything came back perfect. so were trying clomid 100mg cd 3-7 and then gonalf injectables and when follies are big enouh and ovidrel shot. as of mon my follies were still way undedeveloped, so i'm a lil down an confused. did you dr explain at all to you why u may not be ovulaitng anymore? by dr's reason was stress yeah okay for 6-7 monthes i dont think so. when you say on your us they saw small follies but no corpeus lutem what does that mean? oh yeah and like anohter girl said you dont neccesarily have to ovulate to get a period. and as for your last question as for d/c bc pills it can affect your cycles they say up to a year to return normal or longer depending on what bc was used-best of luck

That's a little bit like my story, when i came of bc pill i had 3 normal cycles and than it started with 5 weeks, 6 weeks and the last cycle was 8 weeks. All the bloodwork is fine, but no corpus luteum on the u/s. A corpus luteum is a kind of tissue in your ovaries that is left when you have ovulated. If you don't ovulate you don't see a corpus luteum on the u/s (and vv). I must say i didn't get the offical results yet from the u/s, i just tried to get some answers out of the woman who did the u/s. So all i know is that she saw lots of small follicles and no c.l. I guess that means my ovaries aren't really doing anything, maybe as a result of using the bcp.

There can be different reasons to not ovulate, for instance hormonal problems, but they ruled that out for the both of us. So that pretty much leaves stress. They also told me to relax, there is no better cure than that! I don't disagree with that at all, but i'm not a really stressful person. yes, i had a wedding and i moved to the usa, but i have to tell you that doesn't stess me out very much. I read a lot of stories of women hear who have sex every (other) day because they want to get pregnant. Now, THAT would stress me out! :) :)
And my husband as well!

Hi Judith. My name is Laura. Sorry to hear about your problems - just remember you are not alone out there! Not sure if this will help you or not but i also have problems ovulating. On u/s i have follicles but blood tests on day 21 of my cycle have revealed that my progesterone level is too low each month to 'kick that egg out' as my doctor says. However, i do get positive ovulation tests each month with my regular periods every 28 days or so which can be really misleading as that only measures LH hormone which is fine. Clomid did not help me so they have put me on tamoxifen. After this i will get referred for IVF as nothing seems to help me ovulate successfully - am having blood tests every month pretty much now. Good luck to you all!

tanner789 - January 24th, 2007 11:09 PM

so jol they couldnt really give you much reason why your not ovulating either, my dr said stress too, but i dont know how that can be possible, but anyhowi dont think they can say for sure unless somehing showed on the bw results which for the both of us sounds like it didnt. my us today showed again that my follicles were not the precise size, i had one more final shot tonight and go back again in th emorning to see whats up, if that didnt work next month will be a dif plan, maybe ivf but i dont know about the expense, ttc is stressful enough why does it have to be so damn expensive too.-let me know how things turn out for you

Hi Jol- my situation is similar to yours. DH and I have been trying for 18/19 months. I do not ovuate on my own. I had regular periods but no O. I even had the OPK's be positive but not O. I get my prog tested every month CD21. You are correct - the test tells you whether you O'd or not. I had the same blood work done. My LH was high and FSH was low. Everything else was normal. I am on my 3rd cycle of clomid. You are certainly not alone. I waited the year b4 I went to my OB and complained. Looking back I wish that I lied and told him sooner... when I had my u/s i too had many small follicles. My problem was that they never grew large enough to release the egg. they just shrank back down. hope this helps...

Hi ladies, lyric-I'm in the same boat as you. When dh and I attempted IUI #1, the u/s I had on day 3 showed lots of little follicles. Bloodwork was normal. I started Clomid day 3-7. When I had b/w on day 8 to check my LH, it was high. They did the u/s on day 11 and sure enough no mature follicles, just lots of little ones. Now I have to do 42 days of BC pills to try to regulate my hormone levels. It looks like I will have to use the injections to help me mature the follicles. I wish all you all the best. BABY DUST

Hi I went on the pill at 14 for medical reasons, then had probs with it and eventually came off in 2001 went on HRT as they thought was having early menopause!I was then 24 yrs old. I had Mirena coil fitted2003 for hormones and had that removed early last year. I have NEVER had a normal monthly bleed-only withdrawal bleeds whilst on the pill. Doctors think I probably never had natural cycle bleed. Well...no bleed means no ovulation...August 2006 I had BFP to my amazement, but then tragedy miscarriage in October.Just seen fertility specialist as I still have seen AF, she reckons no AF no ovulation, and could be that an egg escaped after I started to go to the gym.Ihave a body mass index of 26(normal 19-25)she says wants to be about 22 for best chance of waking up my ovaries. So back to watching what I eat and gym 5 times a week. Good luck to everbody.
