I have been on Metformin 500mg. Bid for the past 3 months and I have to say it has done wonders for me. No more sore breast, mood swings, hot flashes, I feel really great for the first time in a long time. No pregnancy yet though. I have been having regular menses though. I hope this helps you some.

My doctor told me the same thing. After reading up on Metformin, I decided to try it out. I've only been on it for 4 days, so I'll have to let you know about the pregnancy, but I did start spotting today--a sign of ovulation??? I can tell you that I did experience some side effects: my stomach was pretty upset and I got diarrhea within an hour of taking the pill. I read on another forum that if you take it an hour before bed with crackers it helps. I tried it tonight and so far I'm feeling good!! I hope this helps. Good luck!!

I was on metformin (875 mg/2x day) for a few months before gettng pregnant with my first child. I have had pcos for years. I am now on it again along with provera pills in hopes for my 2nd child. I had no major side effects and was able to have monthly cycles and a healthy baby after a few months of taking the pills. I say go for it, theoretically it can't hurt you and you may end up blessed with a baby. Good luck!

Hi there, how is everyone doing? Took my metformin for three weeks before getting any side effects but now feel as sick as a dog and can't stay off the loo. How are we meant to try for a baby when I feel this sick? Does anyone know how long the sickness will last on average? Please someone give me some hope....

The symptoms usually starts immediately and tappers off gradually the longer your on them. However, I don't the they go away competely, they just become manageable. When I received my prescription it told me the possible side-effects. Because you had a late onset of side effect you should read about it. Walgreen.com is a good website to look up medication.

hello everyone...about a month ago I was diagonosed with PCOS and put on provera to bring on my period, had not had one for 76 days. I finially got my period on valentines day of all days. I then started metformin. I am taking 500mg a day, tomorrow I start 1000mg a day. My doctor said when I go back in March she is going to start me on clomid. Was just looking for some support and someone to talk with. Havent had any really bad side effects, upset stomach here and there but that's all. Good luck ladies...baby dust to all :-)

I haven't been on this site since nov 28th. I'm now 26 weeks along. I was trying for 8 months with no luck. The first month i tried metformin 500mg once a day i did get pregnant w/i two weeks! i was really sick while taking those. I decided to stay on the drugs until 13 weeks and haven't been on them since. I'm proud to say that i'm carry a healthy baby boy. I was told that i would have some problems concieving children but i guess things happen for a reason. I also have PCOS. Don't give up. I was about to until it just happened. I didn't do anything different. Good luck.

Hi Stef...it's good to hear from you. I'm right behind you, I'll be 26 weeks tomorrow! Having a precious baby girl. However, I DID stay on the Metformin, 1000mg daily--but everything looks good and I'm feeling great! I'm so glad you're doing well!

I have PCO and had been trying to conceive for 3 years. My doctor put me on both Metformin and Clomid. But I did a bit of reading and found out the people with PCO increase their odds of conceiving if they excercise, lose weight and eat a low carbohydrate diet....all of these are supposed to regularize your hormones. Well, after being on Metformin, and CLomid and doing about 5 IUIs, I decided to take a two month break before trying IVF. And guess what? During the two month break (I was still on Metformin only) ...I got pregnant! It must have been the 45 minutes of daily walking combined with my low carb diet and the meds that did it! I wish you all the best in your efforts to get pregnant!
