Metformin

Just Curious,
I stayed on the metformin (500 mg per day) during my entire pregnancies. I asked my reproductive endocrinologist if I should and he said he would if it were him. I know there's a lot of controversy about physicians telling patients to stay on metformin during pregnancy because there's not a lot of research on it yet, but from what I've read it does prevent a lot of miscarriages with no known harm to the babies. My two boys are very healthy. I did have 2 miscarriages before I started taking the metformin so, of course, I would recommend staying on it but everyone has to make their own decision - it seemed like the best option for us based on the information that we had at the time....hope this helps.

I started taking metformin about 2 weeks ago. I feel alittle crampy. I was put on provera to jump start my period and it did come aug 19th. Actually for the 1st time this year i think somthing might of worked. wish me luck. I still ahve a week in a half to go and play the waiting game. I also too have pcos and was just diagnoised even though my periods were regular expect for the last two. i'm really not over weight, and the dr' didnt say anything about cyctes on my ovaries. right now i'm on 500mg of metformin once a day. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

Wow Kristi you were really lucky to get pg so fast. Thanks for keeping me in mind and offering your story. Sometimes it is difficult to get someone who has gone through the same thing and is actually willing to talk about it. I have had AF for 16 straight so far and it looks like shes not leaving anytime soon. About staying on Met after getting pg I think I will push for the dr to let me stay on it because I would be devasted if I had a m/c and it seems many woman have had healthy babies while on it. Kristi, it seems you basically diagnosed yourself with PCOS. That's the problem with dr's today they are quick to answer with something negative and often treat you as you are wasting their time, I just hate that. 2000 mg of met a day is a lot considering I am taking 500 mg and it is kicking my butt. Anyways I will keep you updated and let you know as soon as I get my BFP = }

Hi All..I'm on Met for past 3 months. I have PCO. From second month on I started to ovalate. I have had 2 m/c before. I'm preg again, I'm on 5th week. But my HCG level is not doubling as expected, looks like I'll miscarry again. I'm very upset, just hoping for best.

I'm sorry to hear about the miscarriages. Were you on Metformin with both miscarriages? What dosage level are you taking? Do the doctors have any solution to help you from not miscarrying?

No, this is the first time I''m taking Met. Today I went to the dr. to confirm my miscarriage. There was no explanation of why this happened. My dr. suggested I take Femara. Her theory is, since I have PCO, my testostrone are more. By taking Femara (this is fertility drug) it produces more estrogen which would balance out testostrone...I'm still reacerching more info on this. I have heard a good PCO center in Gorgia - Atlanta. Has anybody undergone treatment there.

Mini - September 13

I forgot to mention in my previous msg, I was taking 1000mg met . I could not handle 1500mg.

setna26,
I've had two healthy babies while taking metformin (500 mg per day) throughout both of my pregnancies. I had two miscarriages prior to taking the metformin......it was a wonder drug for me.

hello,

I started taking metformin once a day 500mg. i had no side effects until about 2 or 3 weeks into it. I feel sick, really gassy, etc. i'm hoping this will work for me. i've been trying for 8 months now with no luck. i also was too diagnoised with pcos. i never thought it was going to be as hard to get prego. wish me luck. and good luck to all of you.

Taking Metformin - September 14

The side effects are bad for me and I'm only taking 500 mg a day for about the past 3 weeks. Any more success stories for those taking Met or who were taking it?
