luteal phase defect anyone?

hey, I just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone has had any similar experiences. I have been ttc for 1.5 years, finally I went to the infertility specialist at my obgyn's office. Had an HSG (good results) semen analysis on hubby (good results) did a clomid challenge test this month with questionable results: day 3 FSH of 11 Day 10 fsh of 10.7 and day 10 estradiol of 530. Anyhoo, back to the luteal phase defect...every single month since i have been of the birth control pill i have light spotting and cramping starting 3-to as many as 5 days before my period. I started thinking if monthly bleeding is brought on by a drop in progesterone then perhaps my spotting is an indicator of low progesterone or my progesterone dropping too soon. Reasons for this could be weak follicles being produce in general leading to a weak corpus luteum (poor ovarian function all together) or just bad ovarian production of progesterone. What is odd is that i have an LH surge like clockwork every month on day 13 or 14, perfect signs of ovualtory CM at the right time, and a 28 day cycle every month +/- 12 hours. day 28 being the first day of red/normal flow which lasts bout 3 days. Anyhoo, just wondering if anyone out there happens to by some act of god be cursed with the same symptoms and if so what has your prognosis been in trying to concieve? Right now i am on clomid and Prochieve (progesterone supplements). Thanks for reading my verbose life story. Good luck to all!

I have a very similar problem - I've been ttc for nearly 2 years - and since off the bcp have had luteal phase spotting - sometimes just for a few days before period -other months it begins a few days after ovulation and continues off and on until my period. Prometrium (no just progesterone) vaginal suppositories have stopped the bleeding - but no pregnancy after 10 months of this treatment. I've done clomid/IUI and GonalF/IUI + Prometrium and no pregnancy. Starting IVF next month - I would love to know if anyone with our symptoms has had success with IVF. So good to know I am not alone. Thanks

Hi Liz and Nicole. I too had the early spotting 3 to 5 days before my cycle should start and my cycles were lasting longer and more heavy. My doctor did a laproscopy and found endometriosis. Since the surgery I have not had any spotting and my cycles have been back to normal for over 6 years. I'm not sure if your spotting is due to the same problem. I do know it was preventing me from conceiving (we tried for 2 years). 6 months after the surgery I got pg with my daughter. Now we have been trying for over a year. I hope this helps. One of the symptoms with endo. is painful cramps which I never had.

I have the EXACT same problem. I have started acupuncture, taking 400 mgs of B6, and taking progesterone cream. I am going to try this for 2 months and then get tested for endometriosis....
