IVF success with progesterone suppositories vs. shots?

Also if you get a choice of drugs - we do in England - success rates are higher for Puregon and Gonal F than Menopur and another one beginning with M. We were given all the data to take to the doctors. Its only a few percentage points in pregnancy rates difference but every bit helps!

Good to know! I was wondering about that. I will keep that in mind when I talk to my nurse. Thanks again!

Hi, I just did my first IVF cycle and 4 days before I was scheduled to take the pregnancy test, I started to bleed very heavily and lost the pregnancy. I spoke to the fertility dr a couple days ago and she suggested that as I started bleeding even while on the progesterone suppositories, that maybe my body wasn't absorbing it properly and suggested that if I did a 2nd cycle, they would out me on progesterone injections instead. Does anyone know if the injections have a better success rate?

Hey girls, here is my story. I did IUI with gonal f injections in 2008. I had a miscarriage earlier that year because of low progesterone. I used prog supp after the IUI and it was successful in keeping my prog high enough. I went on to having my little boy at 32 weeks because of other issues....BUT he is a healthy 17 mth old without any problems. I starting IVF right now for our second child and was just researching supp vs injections. Thanks for this post.

Camille, tell me what your Dr decide. When are you starting your second IVF cycle. I started my bcp on 11/2 and start my Lupron 11/18. Good luck sweetie!

Hi Erin. Right now that's as much as I know. We implanted 3 embryos and it did not work. I got pregnant naturally in July of this month but it was an ectopic and it had to be removed, along with the left tube, thus the reason we tried IVF. As much as I want to try again I am very nervous to go through all of that again, and they're not even sure why it didn't work this time. I guess I need to talk to some other doctors and get some more medical opinions and see, although I have been told that progesterone injections get absorbed directly into the blood much faster. I will keep you in my prayers though for this IVF cycle. Good luck!!!!!
