Iui success first cycle

I just wanted to share my experience in the hope it will help others and give people some much needed hope.

I had my first iui using donor sperm when I was 38. I was so lucky that it worked that first time and I now have a beautiful 7 month old baby girl.

I had no known fertility issues and had not previously tried to conceive, so my story most likely corresponds with a couple where the fertility issue is with the male or, like me, a single woman tired of waiting for Mr Right.

I was on the lowest dosage for Gonal F, and before the procedure only had one egg. By some miracle I fell pregnant.

During the two week wait I had absolutely NO symptoms at all. So don't base success on whether you feel pregnant or not.

At 5 wks i had a dramatic drop in my progesterone levels and was told it could indicate the foetus was gone, or I was likely to have a miscarriage. I was put on progesterone suppositories. I had not read any literature that conclusively stated this would in any way save my pregnancy. I read literature that said it may, and many that said it would not. I also read a few articles that said a drop in progesterone did not necessarily mean a miscarriage, but there was a link.

My first ultrasound was at 7 wks, so another two week wait. Driving to the clinic I was sure I would not have a heartbeat. I had convinced myself that getting pregnant was too easy, this was the other shoes dropping.

Obviously, I heard that beautiful heartbeat, and whilst I experienced spotting my baby was born healthy, maybe a bit too healthy at 9 pound 2 oz. lol

I searched for positive stories when I was going through the process, anything to help me through it. So I thought I would share my journey and hopefully give someone hope. Miracles do happen.

Good luck!
