I have done some research on the subject and am very interested to know if anyone knows anything about it from first hand experience. I want to know if it was costly, effective, and whether or not positive things can be said. I am looking at the natural side of things and its an option I am exploring. Any info would be appreciated.

Elliemae, I have been doing acupunture for the past 3 years. It hasn't all been related to getting pregnant. When I started, it was to get pregnant. I started at the beginning of October and got pregnant by the end of the month. However, it did end up in a miscarriage. I got pregnant again and again I miscarried. Once I found out my problem, which was hormones, I got pregnant again and carried my ds to term. The cost for acupuncture isn't as costly as fertility treatments. I think it can range from 60-150 per session. It could be more, so don't quote me. It is also very relaxing.

Red95---Thanks for the info. I would like to try it for other benefits as well such as weightloss and general health. Did you use any herbal treatments? were they additional? Were you having a hard time TTC when you started? Did you use any meds perscribed by a phsyician at the same time?

elliemae - Yes, they did give me some herbs that would help. Yes, at the clinic I went to, the herbs were extra. If you can get your insurance to pay for the treeatment, that is better (mine did) I was having a lot of pelvic pain (that started after my first miscarriage). Acupuncture helped a little, but the cause was never found. I am currently doing it today for my gallbladder. I didn't have a hard time getting pregnant...I just couldn't keep them. No, I did not use prescribed meds. I would really try it. I got my husband to do it for health reason (overall health) and he loved it...even though it took him a while to do it.

red95---Thanks. My insurance doesn't pay for it but we have a change in our plan next month so you never know. I will as soon as I can get in at least do a consult with someone. I really like the natural approach. Thanks again and I will keep you updated. Ellie

Hi elliemae. I am currently doing acupuncture for infertility. I started the first part of June and go twice a month. He times my sessions according to when I ovulate. I guess I dont know what to think of it. I guess I just want a "quick fix" like anything else. Ive been trying for #3 for 4 years and I can speak for alot of us that the road to infertility is the most emotionally draining rollacoaster anyone could go through. I have 2 children already, so Im classified as "secondary infertility". Ive been through, you name it, the clomid, femara, ultrasounds, bloodwork again and again each month. That just became way too costly. So, thats why Im doing acupuncture as my last hope. I cant afford IVF. Im doing the herbs as well. I pay 65.00 twice a month for the treatments and it was 100.00 for my consult. I absolutely love my acupuncturist, hes a real card and he does make me take this whole approach more positively. I guess, though, Im just not sure how much more of this I can do. Ive almost become numb to it. They say anywhere from 4-6 months you may become pregnant with acupuncture, but Im not getting my hopes up. I may try it for a couple of more months, but after that Im throwing in the towel. I know theres a reason for everything in your life, and sometimes you may not see it now but it all becomes more clear later on. All I can say, is if you havent tried acupuncture and your at the end of your rope and theirs no other option or youve exhausted all options, I would definitely give it a go.

Hi Elliemae, I tried acupuncture after ttc #2 for 7 months (with meds- Femara and Follistim), and we got pregnant that month. I don't know if it helped or not as I was on prescription medication, but I would definitely recommend it. I don't think it's recommended to be on presription medication and other herbs, but I may be wrong. The initial consult (which was the most expensive part), was $110 and included the first treatment. I went one other time prior to ovulation, about 7 days later and it cost $45. As I said, it could have been a total fluke, but I'd definitely recommend trying it. Our insurance didn't cover the cost, but thankfully we didn't have to go back repeatedly. Depending on the reason why you're not able to get pregnant, they do treatments either prior to, or after ovulation. I don't ovulate regularly on my own, so my treatments were to stimulate blood flow to the uterus prior to ovulation. Either way, it's really relaxing which definitely helps given how stressful ttc can be. I hope this helps!

marymo1 and babeedust2all-----Thank you for the responses. I am going to look around and see if I can find someone in the area. I might not be able to start for a few months but I think I want to give it a try. I will keep you and everyone else posted on progress. Thanks Ellie.

I did accupuncture from Mar-June, once a wk, for PCOS, and 4 yrs ttc w/2 m/c 1 on 9 round clomid/IUI, 3 more clomid no luck, then 1 m/c on 2nd round repronex, 3rd round no luck either. I did IVF in June, along w/accuptunctue day of transfer, now pg w/twins!!!! I definately think it was the accupuncture. Along w/the PCOS, I likely had a follic acid absorption problem and a problem w/implantation they couldnt't figure out why. Studies show, at least w/IVF, that accupuncture greatly increases success, so my thought is, if an embryo, regardless of if it was created outside the womb or inside, is trying to implant, wouldn't accupuncture help as well? i took 3 herbs, cheap!! about $30.00/60 days. Accupuncture was $125 for 1st session, $75 for each after, 1 free session for each trimester w/success. (Oh yeah, I better schedule those!) Hope that helps.

comommy--- Thanks it does. I guess I feel like that offers a bit of hope on a day that feels pretty hopeless. I guess I just want to get on with it. Did you got to a fertility specialist accupuncturist or just a general. There aren't any specialists in my area and I didn't know if a general practice would work.

RLR - October 10

I have PCOS and have been doing acupuncture & herbs (with someone who does 90% fertility at her practice) for a couple months now and have begun ovulating & cycling regularly ("naturally") for the 1st time in my life. I was previously on femara for 2 cycles and I ovulated with that as well- got pg both times. The 1st pg was a tubal ectopic & the 2nd was triplets and I had OHSS and m/c all three. Red95- It seems I have your issue of getting pg and then keeping the babies. Please let me know what your hormone issue was if you can- low progresterone? Mine was very high when pg so that's not my problem- not sure what it was. Anyway, I would highly recommend acu/TCM to anyone looking to go the natural route or supplement their RE care. I do think you need to be seen by an acupuncturist who specializes in fertility and it can add up $$, but it's less than a lot of RE tx's. I pay $72 (2 or 3 x a mo) and then about $15/mo for herbs. You should definitely check out a book called "The Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis and her website: www.thefertilesoul.com Good luck!
