chorona: I did read your updates, I'm sorry to hear that it's not a viable pregnancy. the upside is at least you know you can!

I have high FSH and diminshed ovarian reserve. I'm 29, 30 on Monday and have had 2 IUI's - been on 100mg clomid and estradial for the last 4 months and I do get to test Monday, but I'm probably going to tomorrow or Sunday. I have had some cramping in my back that comes and goes so I'm feeling like I am about to start AF but I'm keeping my fingers crossed as we may have to go to donor eggs if this does't work :(

Baby dust to you on your next cycle!

Hi Patty49,
First off...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! You have the same bday as my dad!
I think that you test today so I'm hoping to hear some good news from you.
Don't focus too much on the cramps because I've heard that in early pregnancy it feels the same as af.
I got my af on Saturday :( I was still hoping that somehow the clinic had made a mistake and I was still pregnant. Wishful thinking. Unfortunately I think this cycle is a wash because I have to wait to test this Thursday to make sure that the hcg hormone is gone completely before I can do anything else. This is the part that sucks more than losing the pregnancy...the waiting to start medication again. Anyway, I'm hoping that by the end of June I'll get another af (either on my own or with meds) and then I can start Femara and hopefully do another set of iuis in July.
Let me know your results!
Good luck to you!!!! I'll keep you in my prayers today.

Hi Chorona: thanks for the bday wish!!! Hope your dad had a great birthday too : ) Unfortunately my birthday wish did not come true and I started AF last night. I'm going to start another round of clomid on Day 3 and another IUI this will be number 3. I have an appt with the dr tomorrow to discuss other treatment options if the 3rd IUI doesn't work and may try IVF. I hope you are able to start medication again soon and that the next cycle will be your lucky one!!!

Patty49 - I'm sorry to hear your 2nd IUI wasn't successful, my fingers are crossed for the 3rd go. I'm a few days a head of you, day 10 of iui #3! I sure hope you don't have to do IVF, it's so invasive. Good luck!!

Patty49 - June 1

bm83: Thanks! It's nice to be on here where people understand. None of my friends get it. My husband took it a little harder than me this time around. I cried in the dr office today b/c I just don't know much about my diagnosis and chances. They told me I would have better success with IVF but it depends on how many follies and right now with 100mg of clomid I am only producing one. I hope that your 3rd one is a success too! I am keeping my fingers toes and everything else crossed. Baby Dust!!!!

Patty49, sorry to hear that the IUI didn't work. Maybe the third one will be the one to do it for you. Hang in there and don't give up hope. Sometimes it takes a few tries. My doctor told me that on average it takes about 2-3 IUIs for it to work. And God forbid it doesn't then there's always IVF. Yes it's invasive bu the chances are also higher. Anything for a baby, right? I know a few people that did IVF and it worked for them.
Try asking your doctor about Letrozole (Femara). See if maybe you respond to that. About 20% of women don't respond to Clomid and have better luck with Femara. See what your doctor says about that. If Clomid isn't working then you should try something else. Look into the injectables also. I don't know much about that but I hear that they're good too. More on the expensive side, though.
As for me, I go in tomorrow to do a 3rd pregnancy test to make sure that the beta has come down completely and I am no longer pregnant. I'm still waiting to hear from the clinic on my follow-up appointment date. I'm pissed off about that because they were supposed to have called me already with a date and no one has. I obviously don't want to waste any time.
Good luck to you and keep me posted on your progress.
Baby dust!!!

Chorona - my thoughts are with your today, it must be difficult having to keep going back and getting the same crappy outcome!

Patty49 - Don't worry about what your friends think or say, until one of them goes through what each of us have to get pregnant what they say isn't important one bit. I agree with chorona, I've heard numerous times that IUI's are more successful around 2-4 attempts.

From what I understand, if you want to produce more then one follies you shouldn't stay on Clomid, multiples just aren't as likely. I too want to produce more which is why if this doesn't work we are moving to injectibles. I find the odds better when they try to ovulate 2-4 follies.

Day 11 of my cycle - will probably go in for an IUI in the 5 or so days. I'll keep everyone updated on what happens.

Patty49 - June 2

Chorona and bm83: Thanks for the kind words. They are definitely uplifting. We are going to do one more round of clomid this cycle and see what happens. If the 3rd IUI fails we are switching to Letrozol. I probably won't produce more than one in any given cycle even with the shots b/c I have diminished ovarian reserve. My left ovary has absolutely nothing and my right one is slim pickings. He said we could to do the Letrozol for 5 or 6 months, so I think we will keep doing this and then if no pregnancy results with my own eggs we will be moving to donor eggs. We can't even do IVF with my own eggs b/c he doesn't think that I can produce 4 or 5 in one cycle. We got the cost of the donor eggs today too, wow is all I can say!!! So we are starting to save up money now so that we don't have to finance it and the doctor usually likes to get about 15 to 20 eggs from a donor so that way we don't have to spend that kind of money each time we are ready for our next child. So we are going to keep plugging away at IUI's and see what happens. Hopefully it'll be a success and we won't have to consider donor eggs for another few years when we are ready for another little one.

Chorona: My thoughts are with you today as you go in for another check, I can't imagine what your going through.

BM83: Good luck with your next IUI keep me posted. Baby Dust!!!

Patty49: You should get a Rx for the femara and if you go to femara.com you could get a voucher for a 30 day supply for free as they are expensive. I have responded really good with a combo of femara and follistim. My RE decided to switch me to that due to the poor response with clomid ( Was lucky if I even got 1-2 with clomid) this last cycle I did get 12 follies and 8 of them were mature between 18mm and 24mm, I decided to cancel the cycle due to the large ammount of follies, I just can't afford to bring more than 2 babies as I am single and doing this alone and at my age (39) would be hard.
You should really consider switching, if you are only getting one follie.
I will start my next cycle and hopefully I will get a less amount of follies (wishing for four)
Good luck to you and everyone else.

Patty49 - June 3

Morenas1: Is the femara the same as letrozol? I went to the site and it seemed to be but I wanted to check with you. You give me hope knowing that maybe I can respond better to another drug. I have responded to clomid each cycle resulting in one follie but the doctor said for my age (30) my DOR was pretty severe. He isn't giving up but is letting me know the worst case and he said with donor eggs I have an 80% chance of getting pregnant the first time so at least I know I can get pregnant even if its not my own eggs. Good luck with your next cycle hopefully you produce what you want so you don't have to cancel again! Baby Dust!

morenas1 - June 3

Patty you are too young to have a low egg reserve. My RE knew after the second cycle that I was not going to respond to clomid and she recommended we take a more aggressive approach, I asked her to let me do another cycle with a higher dose and my ovaries just didn't responded then I knew it was time to change directions, first cycle after starting injectables I had 4 follies but only 2 goo size ones...then on my second on same protocol my ovaries just bloomed :) and even tho I had to cancel it made feel better to know I was able to make enough in case I had to go thru IVF.
Don't know how much you trust your RE but, have you considered getting a second opinion?
I am also battling PCOS...so don't get discouraged you have plenty of time and baby will come :)
About the letrozole that is the name of the ingredient of Femara.
baby wishes..

Hi ladies,
Thanks so much for your kind words. It is pretty crappy to be going back to do a 3rd pregnancy test when I know the results won't be good. So I went today and beta is now at -2.39, which basically means that I am no longer pregnant and can start looking at treatment again. I got my af this past weekend, so now I have to wait until I get my af again to start letrozole and cycle monitoring. This frustrates me because I don't ovulate or get my period on my own, so if I don't get my period by June 30th then I have to go back to do a random cd3 u/s and b/w, and then start the whole process all over again. At first I was upset at the amount of time that will be wasted and was confused as to why they wouldn't monitor me now to see if I ovulated on my own and then do the second IUI, but when I think about it, maybe it's for the best that I take a month off and try on my own. I've purchased a 5 pack of ovulation kits and will start to test on cd10 to see if anything is happening (I'm currently on cd6).

Patty, I agree with Morenas1, it's hard to believe that at such a young age you already have DOR. Definitely try the Letrozole. I have a co-worker who also has PCOS and had a child on her own and now she's trying for a second. Unfortunately this time around she's having a hard time. She's also older so that may have something to do with it. Anyway, she started off with Clomid, always had 1 follicle but never got pregnant. When she switched to Letrozole she got pregnant a few times. Unfortunately she also had a dip in her uterus and that is possibly the reason why the pregnancies didn't last (she's since had surgery for the dip in the uterus and will be doing another round of Letrozole in August). The point is, that she had better success with the Letrozole. This is why I'm not doing Clomid anymore, even though it worked for me. It took longer for the follicles to grow on Clomid and the docs are convinced that Letrozole will give better results.
In your case, I wouldn't try Clomid again and I would go straight to the Letrozole.

Morenas1, what is follistim? I keep seeing women taking Clomid/Letrozole along with follistim and metformin but I don't know what those are for?

Baby dust to all!

morenas1 - June 3

CHORONA Follistim are injectables FHS hormones (follicle-stimulating hormones), they are the next step after the clomid challenge, my RE started me on a combo with femara and follistim 75iu days 3-5 which has worked very good for me, and would probably work for anyone here for what I can see. Follistim is on the expensive side, but you can find tons of people that are selling their meds after they got pregnant for a fraction of the cost that you would pay from the pharmacies...just do a search for follistim for sale or IVF meds for sale.
Sorry to hear about your pregnancy, but I know we are all going to get pregnant next cycle :) just watch :)
keep a positive attitude..

Patty49 - June 3

morenas1/chorona - I thought I was too young too but it happens. My FSH is 23 on cd3 which is pretty high, my dr doesn't just look at that though and we do several ultra sounds and my ultrasounds are more accurate. We barely see any little follies on CD3 which isn't normal. I have talked to nurses at the hospital where we did my hsg and the said if they were trying to get pregnant and couldn't they would go to him - he has a very good reputation and he isn't giving up on me yet. I trust him enough and he said he has had pregnancies with DOR and that its possible but rare so I'll just keep trying. I already started my clomid so I'm going to give it one more shot it's month 5 of it and then move on to letrozol and see if that makes a difference.

chorona - June 4

Patty, I hope that this is your cycle. I pray that you get that BFP!!!
Keep us posted on your progress. Good Luck!!!
