just curious since doc thinks i may have endo, what exactly are lupron shots for ? do they stope endo from spreading ? can you conceive while doing the shots ? thanks

Hi, Kim. Lupron is suppose to stop the endo from spreading. It puts you into a menopausal state, so your periods will stop for awhile. I've heard that there is a VERY SMALL chance to conceive while on those shots, but you never know. To my understanding, Lupron gets the endo that maybe the doctor can't see during a laparoscopy. I hope this helped a little. Good luck to you!

Hi, jla. Sorry, I missed your post earlier or I would have said something. I can't wait to hear your good news. I hope you will keep us posted. My doctors appointment got changed to March 20 to see what our next step is. What are you doing? Are you on any type of pill or what? I'm so glad I'm finally finished with the shots. I'm anxious to get started "trying" again! Good luck to you!

Hi bj! Thank you for responding! I am not on anything right now. Basically, my Dr. told me to wait until I start my period, count that as day one and then start "trying" day 10, every other day. He wants us to try to get pg ASAP. This will be interesting since my hubby travels. ha! Good luck bj! I hope we will both have good news real soon! Sounds like we could be "trying" about the same time! :)

For Kim, I was told by my Dr. to use other forms of BC (condoms, etc) while on the shots and make sure I didn't get pg b/c they didn't know what would happen to the baby while on Lupron. I'm not sure what you've been told, but he was pretty serious about it and anything I've read about getting pg while on Lupron says the same thing. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

BJ-Thanks for your prayers - it really is comforting knowing that there are other people going through this. When I try to explain my situation and the disease to people who aren't directly affected by it, they look at me like I'm crazy. When I can't walk because the pain is so bad, they think I am making it out to be more than it is - and it honestly is that bad sometimes. I took the 3 month Lupron injections and actually got my last shot in January so I will be done in April. The hot flashes have been almost unbearable, but like I said before, compared to the pain they are nothing. I wish you all the best of luck with your treatments and many blessings in the future.

I am on it. I have been on it for 9 months. Let me know what questions you have!

LARA - March 13

can you get pregnant while on lupron and what is lupron prescribed for ? and is it prescribed before or after laparoscopy ?

jla - March 14

Hi, LARA. They say there is a possibility of getting pg while on Lupron b/c you still might ovulate. Have you checked out the Lurpon website? www.lupron.com I was given my Lupron shots after my lap. For an update on my progress...I'm STILL waiting on my period. Thursday will be 7 weeks after my last shot. I do have some light cramping (nothing like with the endo!), so I keep thinking it will be any day now. UGH! How are you doing, BJ???

bj - March 15

Hey, jla. I'm well. I have my next doctors appt. on the 20th. Praying for a good report. My last shot was on Feb. 16. I'll let you all know what happens. I'm glad I"m off the shots!!!! I'm ready to start trying again.

jla - March 18

Hey BJ! I'll be thinking about you on Monday. Let us know how it goes!

bj - March 21

Hey everyone. jla, I think I just posted on your other site. Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know that my doctors visit yesterday went very well. Thank you Jesus! We can officially start trying now!! My doctors orders were "lots of sex". My husband was there when he said it. He liked hearing those words. lol. When my period starts, I have to schedule another HSG - where they check to see if your tubes are blocked. Just too make sure they're still clear. Wasn't too thrilled about that, but hey, it's a small price to pay for my little miracle. My doctor said I had a good response to the Lupron shots, so now, we'll continue to try and keep praying! How are all of you?

jla - March 21

Hey bj! So good to hear from you! Yes, I saw your post on the thread I started last night. :) I feel like I'm going crazy waiting on my period! Anyway, I'm so glad you've been given the OK. God is good! You are in my thoughts and prayers! I want some good news soon! ;) I do have a question though...you've only been off your shot since Feb. 16, right? You haven't started yet, have you?? But, you've been given the OK to start "trying"? My Dr. didn't give me the OK until after I start...which you know that story. :) Should I call him?? He told me to go see him if I haven't started by the 3rd month off of it. I've been freaking out lately wondering if I've been shut down for good. ha!

My doctor put me on birth control. Just to get my periods started back up. He said he has good success rate with women getting pregnant who has stage 4 endo, putting them on Lupron, then birth control to get them started back up again. He was very positive. I'm also on Glucophage. Don't know if you've heard of it, but it helps control your insulin intake. The reason I am on it is because diabetes runs in my family. I don't have it, but I also have PCOS, and he always puts his PCOS patients on it. Good news about that, is that it can also help with fertility. No, I haven't started yet, but I also just started the birth control pills last night. At first, when he said birth control, I was like, no way!! I want to GET pregnant, but he explained to me everything. That's why I asked if your doctor has put you on anything. Hang in there. I know it's hard, but you've come so far already. Every day is a day closer. :)

Isn't it crazy how different doctors have different methods for the same treatment?!?! I will be patient for a couple of more weeks before I call his office! You are very right though...I've come a very long way! :) Thank you so much for your encouragement, bj! It truly does help!

I'll continue to pray for you. Keep me posted. Joy, how are you?

noi - March 23

Hi my name is noi. I had the 1st shot of Lupron the beginning of Dec 2005 to shrink the fibroids, and the doctor can perform laproscopy with hysterectomy. The fibriods shrinked, and I am schedule for operation on April 14. So I had another shot of Lupron the beginning of this month. Hot flash for me, I can stand it but I've developed the pain on muscles, joints and numbness at night. It is very painful, every morning or when I wake up at night, I cannot move quickly. I had a hard time getting up. Doctor said it might be the side effect from Lupron or it is normal for my age( I am 41), and nothing I can do. Does anybody has these symptoms like I do?
