Could this be why?

Rebecca - November 15

Hi my name is Rebecca, I am currently trying to conceive and am having a lot of trouble. I had one daughter 4 years ago who had anencephaly. After her birth I've had problems with my ovaries such as bi-lateral ovarian cysts. For 3 years now I have been trying to get pregnant but no luck. I got the cysts taken care of but still no luck. I have heard that they can prevent women from getting pregnant but I have had no symptoms of them in the past year. My periods are pretty regular with the exception I get mine every 5 weeks instead of every 4 but they last 4-5 days and are a pretty regular flow. I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions to what might be stopping me from getting pregnant and would anyone think that having a child with anencephaly already harm my chances of ever getting pregnant again? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Rebecca. I'm so sorry about your daughter. I really don't know much about anencephaly, but from what I read on the anencephaly.org website, it doesn't sound like it would really affect your ability to conceive again. Most likely, if there's any culprit I'd say the cysts are the more likely suspect. You said your periods are regular. Are you ovulating? Have you tried charting BBT just to verify that? Also, maybe since it's been 3 years, you might want to see a specialist, if you're not seeing one already. They'd need to monitor you closely if you go on drugs. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck.

Are your cysts from pcos, or is it just one or two? If it is pcos, you could have insulin resistance. I agree you should see someone after ttc for this long with no results. I'm also very sorry to hear about your daughter, and it shouldn't have anything to do with your problems ttc. Good luck! :)
