Clomid and multiples

I am over 35 and I have a family history on my mother's side of twins. This is my 1st month on Clomid (days2-6). Is there anyone out there in the same boat as me or just wanting multiples

I took Clomid too this cycle for PCOS and I am a fraternal twin-with a twin brother. My RE told me the fact you are on clomid increases your chances for multiples by 12%. However, being over the age of 35 also increases that risk for multiples too. As for genetics, twins are ONLY genetic if a mother has fraternal female twin(s) (one girl, or two girls-not identical of course). This is because the hyperovulation tendancy is ONLY passed down to the fraternal girl twin from the mother. (The tendency to develop and release more than one egg.) If you are a fraternal girl twin, your chances for twins are increased based on genetics.

Thanks, linds99. My greatgrandmother had two sets of fraternal twins (g/g & b/b) . My grandmother was one of the girls. My mother says that her mother was a twin and that my grandmother miscarriage one set and also my youngest aunt was a twin( her twin was stillborn).

Unless your mom had fraternal girl twins, and you were one of them, I would say huh, your chances are higher...but since you aren't fraternal, then your chances for twins are only elevated because you are on clomid. Do you want twins? I actually am scared to have twins, my mom and dad said it was so hard, breastfeeding, diapers, etc. And my mom said it was a scary pregnancy.

I am the type of person who needs to know all the facts. I already have four kids and I have had four m/c. I want a large family .

Sorry to hear about the four miscarriages, that is very sad. I hope you realize your dream of having a big family, you still can. I read somwhere on this site a woman that wrote "if a woman wants twins bad enough, she will have them..." maybe God will bless you with that with assistance with Clomid. For myself, well, I don't have any kids. I've been trying for one year now (next month) and no success...I just want to know I can at least have one! But I come from a big family of four kids, so I would love to have a lot more than 1 of course.

Actually, I am a bit surprised that a doctor would give you Clomid at 35, I read that they usually don't do that for women over 35. Are you seeing an RE or did your Gyn give that to you?

My OB/GYN gave them to me. I am an only child which is the reason I want a large family. My kids are spread out due to the miscarriages, cervical cancer ,and also a divorce. It will happen for you and you will have a healthy baby(ies). Please continue posting to this forum about anything.

Is your OB Gyn monitoring you with it via ultrasounds? I read numerous occasions on this site where the doctor wasn't monitoring them and measuring follicle sizes. Also are you getting the HCG trigger shot or are they not doing that with you? I had two inseminations this cycle with the trigger shot, ( I had two 20.5 mm follicles develop on the right ovary) so I hope at least one popped this time with the trigger. This last year has been very tough on me. I am 29 and I thought I was "young and fertile" but it's not the case. I just can't stop thinking about this, 24-7, it really has taken over my life in many aspects, probably because I don't have any kids, and I am panicking a bit and I don't have the distractions that other women have with having their other kids take their mind off getting pregnant. I haven't gotten a one day break from it for a year now. Anyway, I can totally understand why you would want more kids. That must be rough to be a lone child. I found having siblings a wonderful attribute in my life and support system. I hope that you can achieve that dream soon.

He said he would start to monitor after my three months with clomid950mg) are up. I have been at the same OB/GYN office for 17 1/2 years, so they know that if I only think that there is a problem , I will call. This is my third time taking Clomid ( 1st time was with my son (14 years old) 2nd time resulted in a miscarriage.) I have never had any problems taking 50mg. It is hard not think about it even if you a child or children. I can truthfully say that in last 18 mos of trying (minus the 9 1/2 weeks that i was pregnant) that I have been on the brink of driving my family nuts. Be positive and you will become pregnant.
