Can you take metaformin when your pregnant?

There is a relative that has been ttc for a couple of years now and we just heard she started taking metaformin. My mother in law says that means she's pregnant but I thought you take that while you're ttc.

I took 2000mg of metaformin to get pregnant and it work I am now 6 weeks along and I am still on the medication and my OB is keeping me on it through my whole pregnancy.
