Best days to take Clomid?

I am going to start taking Clomid on my next cycle. My doctor said to take it on days 3-7. I know someone else that took it on days 5-9. We both have unexplained infertility and regular cycles. Does anyone know the difference in the days? Are there certain days that would have more of a risk of multiples? Thanks and good luck with baby dust.

I found this on the internet (very interesting): Clomiphene citrate comes in 50-mg tablets that are taken on days 5-9 of your cycle or, less typically, on days 4-8 or 3-7. There is some preliminary research that indicates that an earlier start date may result in more pregnancies, but most gynecologists continue to prescribe it for days 5-9. One recent study (Biljan et al, cited below) actually tried prescribing Clomid on cycle days 1-5. While none of the participants in their day 5-9 group resulted in pregnancy, 24 percent of the women who took Clomid on days 1-5 were able to conceive.

This is my 4th cycle on clomid and I take it on the 4th day. My doctor wouldn't let me take it on any other day.

tibby, do you know why it is day #4?

I take mine day 3-7 and this was my first cylce. I have very long 40 days cycles and instead of ovulating on day 23 I ovulated on day 16. So taking it early really helped me. I read that taking day 3-7 is a higher risk of twins but not sure if that is true.

This is kind of a funny thread, because we are all taking clomid on certain days yet none of us know why the certain days!

I take clomid 1-5, according to my doc it helps reduce the hostile cm (or something like that..)

My doctor said the chance of having multiples is 1%. I too am concerned of that do to in my family my great grandmother had 3 sets of twins. My Dr. also said to take the clomid on the 5-9 day of my cycle so that I will ovulate on the 13-14 day of my cycle. This is when we are supposed to have intercourse.

I asked my doctor what the difference was in taking clomid on 3-7 or 5-9 and he said you are expected to ovulate earlier and have a shorter luteal phase if you do 3-7. I took mine on 5-9 last month, ovulated on cd15 and got my period on cd31. I normally see AF on cd28. If I do not get PG this month, I am going to ask him if it is ok for me to try 3-7. I also asked him why some docs say 3-7 or 5-9 and he said it's just that everyone is taught differently and that some go with what they have seen works best. Just thought I'd share my two cents.....good luck ladies!

Hi, I' ve been taking clomid on days 2-6. I have no idea why but my doc must think that's the best days that works for his patients.

Theresa, thanks for posting your dr's response. That is interesting. Tracy, all the literature I've read and my dr also says that the risk of twins with clomid is 8-10%. Good luck to everyonne!
