I'm starting Menopur this cycle and I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences. I'm a little nervous about giving myself shots. Thanks!

Hi Anna. My RE started me on Gonal F then switched to Repronex for the last few shots. This was my first cycle of injections and wasn't that bad. Repronex stung more and I did get a red itchy spot at the injection site which is all quite normal. Once you get the first one over it feels alot better. I had 6 follicles and apparently a super lining from it all. I am also now just over 4 weeks pregnant and praying madly that it sticks. Good luck and lots of baby dust.

Hi Sav! Thanks for telling your story. It's nice to hear a success story! Was that your first round with injectibles? Also, did you have to give yourself the shot in your stomach? That's what the directions said. One more question . . . about how much does the medicine cost? (you don't have to answer if you don't want to). Thanks for your help and CONGRATS!!!

Anna, I did Menopur shots for two cycles. I thought they were pretty painful--meds really burn going in. I ended up getting some prescription numbing cream from my dr called Emla. You put it on about an hour before you do the shot. I could still feel it, but it was better. Also, I gave myself all the shots. I have a big needle phobia, so that was tough. I can't comment on the cost (insurance paid). Good luck to you!

Ann - did the shots work for you? Are you pregnant? I hope you are! I called the insurance company and they said the Menopur and the ultrasounds should be covered. They also pay $2,000 per year for insemination! I hope this info is correct b/c then I wouldn't have to pay anything!

HI Anna Yes it was my first round of injections. The first round is also the RE trying to work out what works best for you. I did the shots in the stomach and Gonal F was certainly alot nicer. The cream Ann1 got sounds a good idea if you have trouble. Insurance only covered about 40% of drugs, so ended up paying around $1600 for whole cycle. Thankfully it was successful. I am not an American, but in US for husbands work and had a really hard time trying to get it all worked out. It is just so confusing!

I did 6 rounds of clomid (5 w/iui) and 2 rounds of injectibles w/iui (using Follistim and Menopur). All failed, unfortunately. I switched to a different RE to do ivf, because with the other one, I would have an insurance issue with the lab he uses. The other RE did a saline sono so I could start ivf, but he found a fibroid he wanted to remove. A few days before I was to have fibroid surgery, I ended up pg on a natural cycle! That was after trying for 2 years and 2 months. The injectibles seem to work for most people. I really hope it works for you!!

Hi Anna! I used Repronex this cycle (combined with Clomid)... it was my first cycle with the injectable. Like the others said, it did sting a bit and I bruised as well. Yes, it is injected in the lower abdomen. But, with each injection I just kept telling myself that it will all be worth it! Unfortunately for me, when I stopped the injections on day 9, my hormones dropped for day 10 and 11 so my cycle was cancelled. I will try again in 2 weeks and will likely take the injections for a longer period of time. Hope it all works out for you! Smiles and Babydust! T

Ann - congrats! That is so awesome that you got pg on your own! How far along are you? I hope that it works the first time and that I will be pg before Christmas! thayward7 - I hope this round is a success for you too! It sounds like we will be on about the same cycle.

Hi Anna. I am 23 weeks along now. I hope you get your bfp before Xmas, too. What a great present, right?!?! When do you start your injections? Are you using Menopur alone or in combo w/an fsh-only stimming drug (Gonal F, Follistim, etc.)?

Ann - do you know if you are having a boy or a girl yet? That is so exciting - I can't wait until I can finally say that I am pregnant! We started ttc over a year ago so I am very impatient right now! I had a shot of progesterone on Wednesday so hopefully AF will start in a week or so. Then I can start injections. I've never looked forward to a shot this much before! A lady at work said she would give me the shots if I want her to - her husband has MS so she has to give him shots every day and she feels comfortable doing it. I don't think that I could give myself a shot - especially in the tummy!

Anna, I am having a boy. I would have, of course, been happy with either healthy, but I really wanted a boy! It was tough to do the shots myself, but it can be done! That is great if you have and want to have someone else do them. My dh is also a needle phobic, so I didn't want to put him through it as well. There were times where I would sit w/the syringe in my hand and cry for 30 minutes before. Like you said, you also really look forward to them. Do you have to do bcps before you start stimming? Will you use Lupron or something else during the Menopur shots to prevent a lh surge?

Anna B. - November 6

Good morning! AF started yesterday morning! I'm so excited!!! I have to call the RE's office today to make an appt for an ultrasound and then I will start the injections on Wednesday! I'm so glad that AF came early! I'll let you all know how it goes. :)

Ann1 - November 6

This is great! Doesn't it always feel funny to be happy about af arriving?? Do you start with the Menopur on Wednesday?

Anna B. - November 6

Hi Ann! I made an appt to have the u/s on Wednesday and I should start the Menopur on Wednesday too. I'm still trying to figure out if insurance will cover it. I sure hope so!

Ann1 - November 6

My insurance covered it, and I hope yours does too! Let me know how the shots go.

Sav - November 6

Good luck Anna, I hope all goes smoothly with the injections. Hopefully your insurance will cover it all!
