well I hope metformin is my miracle. Been trying ever since 1999 but stopped all after my IVF's in 2002, I am starting back so my fingers are crossed, even with many odds and dr's saying it is unlikely.

for those who are taking metformin in high doses, have you experienced any side effects? i'm taking 500mg a day.Basedon my research it could resuld to lactic acidosis, a condition involving the liver, this is just one of the possible side effects. right now since i am aware of the possible side effects, I' taking multivitamins and B-complex supplement. My OB could possibly increase my dosage if my system would not respond to 500mg.

Hi Ladies.... My dh and i are both 27.... we have been ttc for about a year and a half.... that is 18 months of bfn's. We started seeing a specialist in last october and i was diagnosed with PCOS. I am overweight and until recently didn't get AF regularly. I have also lost 16lbs since being diagnosed. My doc started me on metformin... I am taking 1500mg per day (500mg with each meal). My doc also said i am not ovulating... so after i get my HSG (to check if tubes are blocked) on or around jan 23....i will be starting clomid 150mg. In the past i tried 50 mg and 100mg for 2 cycles and wasn't able to ovulate on that. I like the doc i am with now.... she said that if i didn't ovulate with the 150mg after 2 cycles then we will move to injectibles. I am at the point where i am willing to try anything to conceive. It is nice to find a place of support for pcos.
talk to you all later.

Liezel: i was TTC for 3+ years. I did more than 8 cycles of clomid (not all in a row, i took breaks and moved from OB to RE) and 2 of those cycles were with IUI's and no luck. on a break, i got pregnant but miscarried in 2004 around 7 weeks. Continued with 1 round of follistim (injections) + IUI and got pregnant but it ended in an ectopic implanting in my right tube in Sept 2005. had emergency surgery to remove pregnancy and lost my tube due to too much damage. at my post-op in Oct. 2005, RE prescribe metformin. was given bcp for 3 months to heal from surgery. in Jan 2006, did 2 cycles of metformin + femera with no luck. in March of 2006 took a break and did 1 more round of follistim + metformin with no luck.....after all we went through, i physically adn emotionally could not continue and we stopped all fertility treatments but RE asked me to continue metformin. to my surprise, i found out June 2, 2006....i was pregnant. I am currently 35 weeks carrying a girl and was only taking my metformin at the time. do not give up your dream, it will happen and best of luck.

Thank you so much lynn for sharing your story with me.... it brought tears to my eyes to know what you have been through. I won't give up hope that someday i too will be a mother whether i give birth or eventually adopt....either way i will know that he/she will be my miracle child. Good luck with the remaining 5 weeks of pregnancy....have you picked any names for your little girl yet?

Lynn - January 7

LIEZEL: thanks....yes we have a name. She will be Sydney. with some complications with my blood pressure, OB is only letting me go to 38 weeks. at my appointment this week, they think i am in beginning staged of peeclampsia so we are now going by weekly appointments and as long as we both are safe, she is staying inside....if any danger happens, we are off to the hospital. sometimes we do not like the time frame god has picked out for us but it will happen. again, best of luck

Hey ,I too have PCOS and taking Metformin. I have been on Metformin for more than a year now(500mg X 4).After Metformin I get my periods but they are 35- 45 days apart and so I can't tell when I ovulate.
I had a miscarriage in Dec 2004 at abt 10 weeks. Planning to take my HSG (to check for any Tube Block) and then planning to start Clomid.

I thought once u start Clomid u get pregnant easily. But after reading lot of posts it seems Clomid always does not work. I was so excited about starting Clomid!! Let me see.
