That is very odd for a dr to not want to run all the tests before starting you on clomid. Maybe he sees clomid as a mild thing to just try at first. The main concern I would have is that he didn't check to see if your tubes are blocked yet. If they are, all the clomid and iui won't do a thing! If they said your dh's sperm will be ok with iui, that is a good thing. I've heard of lots of people raising the count and quality with vitamins. Did he say what the motility and morphology are? When the sperm is "washed" before iui, it separates out a lot of the non-motile and poor morphology sperm. If that is all that is wrong, you should be good to go!! When do you start with the u/s checks? Usually it is about cd9ish.

I have a scan on Monday and have been on the 5 day Clomid until Saturday morning. I wonder if he tried this first without worrying yet about blocked tubes since I did have the m/c earlier in the year. He did say we would stop and do a lap etc if this wasn't working. My dh got on the internet and read all sorts of things. He had a nasty flu with fever a couple of weeks ago, drives tractors a lot, and is outside in this awful heat, a lot plus we are in an area where men's repro issues are particularly bad (he even found that study on the net). The nurse said it is not at all uncommon in this area to see morph and motility issues. I was so stunned, again, I just didn't write anything down. On Monday, I am definitely going in with questions. I am hoping his issues get better. I really wasn't surprised but he was just kind of devastated. I kind of pointed out, now you know how I feel sometimes, so maybe this was enlightening for him. What is going on with your clot?? Laurie

HI Laurie. I bet you are right about your dr not being as concerned about your tubes. It sounds like a good plan! How odd that there are a lot of male issues in your area. Do think think it is environmental or due to the activities normall performed by men in the area?? Did you receive a copy of the semen analysis? If not, definitely ask for a copy in case you want to look anything up from it. Everything sounds very promising for you! My appt went extremely well, except for about jumping out of the chair when they took 4 vials of blood! The clot is completely GONE!! The baby over doubled in size, since July 14--from 13mm to 27.26mm--and the heart rate is 179bpm. It is measuring about 4 days bigger than average, but the dr said that is expected, since dh and I are taller than average. I am so relieved!!

Ann, that is great. Thanks for being positive. Truthfully, I am starting to go back to pessimism again. At first I was relieved that there was something that could be treated, then I wondered if that would just make things even tougher. We are in Missouri and there are issues specific to this area.

I am from Missouri (KC) but live in Texas now! Don't get down!! Of all the fertility problems, this is the best one you can have. Your dh's issues must not be too bad, because you got pg before. With iui, it is almost a guarantee, once they get rid of the incapable sperm. Seriously, you have every reason to feel very positive!!

Ann, have you not seen all the failed IUI's on this board? There are a lot of women not getting pregnant via this route. It would be nice to see some success stories, I guess.

Ann1 - July 27

I personally had 7 failed iuis, but it all depends on the reason(s). With minor male issues, you have absolutely great chances!

Ann, still out there? Had one big follicle, nothing happening on the other ovary which I found out is normal. He was worried it would rupture soon so we had to "cover" that time period. Today, got trigger shot, tomorrow is the big day. Was more nervous about yesterday than I am about tomorrow. I was hoping something would be there!

Hi Laurie. How big was your follie? Did you have any smaller ones? Good luck w/your iui!!

cromwell - August 1

I am not sure what size it was. At first I thought he said 40? Then a friend said probably not! I asked the nurse who gave me the shot this morning and she said it was 20, whatever that means. That is the only big one. The doctor told me yesterday not to get greedy! He said this was really normal, etc. I am only on 50 mg of Clomid and I gather that until I went to a higher dose, I would probably not get multiple follicles. Keep your fingers crosses please!

Ann1 - August 1

It is definitely not 40! The 20 means it measures 20mm. Eggs can be in follies as small as 14mm, but 16mm is a pretty safe bet that it contains an egg. I think fewer follies may also depend on the days you take clomid--some drs do 5-9, others 3-7, and sometimes you see days 1-5. I was on 50mg days 3-7, and I got 4 follies once and one follie once and the others were 2-3.
