I just found this site today and enjoyed reading through a lot of your stories. I had an IUI on August 22 (my first one). The IUI was followed by 5 days of oral medications, 6 days of injection and then the HCG shot on Saturday night at 9. The IUI was done Monday at 11:30. On Friday I had an ultrasound that showed I had 3 maybe even 4 follicles that would release eggs. My husband's sperm is all within the normal range. The only thing that we have found that was wrong, is the fact that I don't ovulate. What sort of outcome do you all think that I have that this will work the first time? I am so anxious to find out. The dr said I could test as early as next Wednesday ( 11 days past HCG shot). The pains, cramping, bloating and soreness in my breasts that I have been experiencing since the day after IUI are not much fun. Anyways, I just was curious if anyone had any feedback on if I had it going for me the first time. thanks

Melanie I too didn't ovulate and had to go on meds (Femara) for 5 days to ovulate then I did the HCG injection plus IUI. My first IUI was not successful (it was with Clomid) but my second IUI was successful so even if you didn't ovulate before the meds will force your body to ovulate now. IUI has about a 15% success rate with each cycle so your chances are pretty good. I didn't think I would ever get pregnant and I'm now almost 6 weeks along!
Baby dust to all!

Beth, that is awesome!! It makes me feel so much better. I feel the same way, like I will never get pregnant. We tried Clomid by itself for 6 months and nothing. So they didn't even try that with the IUI. After reading success stories from all different websites, it looks like Clomid with IUI doesn't have as big of an outcome compared to the injections with IUI. Does anyone agree? Beth, do you remember how many days past the IUI you tested for a positive?

Beth - August 25th, 2005 7:22 PM

Melanie I didn't test positive until 13 days post IUI. I did try an early test at 12 and it was negative and I had NO SYMPTOMS at all I still have very few. I didn't use any injectables so I consider myself very lucky Femara was a wonder drug for me. I was really disappointed when the first IUI was unsuccessful and I almost didn't do a cycle this month but something just told me I had to....guess my instinct was right. I'm just holding my breath until the ultrasound on the 7th. I think I'll feel better when I see a heartbeat. I m/c'ed at 4 wks 3 days last Nov and this is the first pregnancy since. Keep positive and everything will work out!
Best of luck with everything! Baby Dust to all!

After battling unwanted hair growth on my face with tons of laser hair removal-and then getting my PCOS horomone issues under control with Metformin and B/C pills the problem pretty much went away. After my first IUI and all the meds, my problem is back. Has anyone here had a similar issue and been able to identify which drug caused the problem to start back up? Or does it just come with the hormone territory??

Liz, I was reading through and saw your posts. They caught my attention. I was just curious, I think you said you're on clomid but that the doctor said it stimulates the cyst? Is that correct? Has the doctor ever recommended injections, like Gonal F, Repronex, etc.? Is this your 5th cycle?

Melanie - August 29th, 2005 2:44 PM

I noticed in some of the other posts that most of you experienced cramps and pain after your IUI. I have been experiencing them since the day after the IUI. This morning about 1 I had them so bad that I couldn't hardly walk and I thought that I was going to have to go to the ER. The pains went away within 1/2 hour. I called the doctor this morning, and he sent me to the nearest Quest lab for some test to check for infections and such. Did anyone have severe pains at any point after their IUI? I can test for the first time on Wednesday. I just hope that these pains are not something that will stand in the way of conception.

Kathy: Since I only have one ovary that has a ssmall dermoid cyst on it and I lost my other ovary to atorsion of a large ovarian cyst...I am very sensitive to NOT have my ovary hyperstimulated on large amounts of injectable hormones whioch work directly on the ovary as opposed to Clomid which stimulates the pituitary gland to stimulate the ovary. This is my second Clomid iui cycle and I just finished 5 days of Clomid 50mg and I go for bloods on Sunday Sept 4th.
Melanie: I recieved antibiotics after each of my back to back iui's to prevent infection. Did you? Perhaps it's a pelvic infection at the iui site that is giving you such intense cramping???I'd go to the er the next time you feel them and have a blood test.

marea - August 29th, 2005 3:27 PM

vp, what's going on with this month's cycle?

Liz - August 29th, 2005 3:33 PM

Marea and VP: What's going on this cycle? I just interviewed a consult RE closer to my home in a private practice as opposed to the large university center where my present RE has a group practice. The woman Dr. was very nice, bright and uses the same meds protocols and technology..BUT my query was ther was noone in the office when I was ther ...I am so used to the crowds of a teaching center it made me almost curious when things were so personlaized and not harried! Anyway this cycle I've already started which my original team so I will continue with them until the end of Sept. and hopefully won't have to transfer but, have the option a a kinder gentler otion close to home for next cycle if we need to. Blessings to all***********************************

Hi Liz, I'm sorry for the loss of your ovary. That's hard! I understand the sensitivity to the injections. It is true about over stimulation, I used Gonal-F and Menogon injections. First IUI I had 11 eggs, it failed due to the lack of maturity in the eggs. (I had a lot of cramping too). It did help us to determine how much to use the 2nd time in which I did get PG. Unfortunately, sounds like with one ovary it's too risky. I wish you all the best!!! Baby dust to all!!

Amy - August 30th, 2005 9:36 AM

Well got AF 15 DPO and IUI... Today I started another round of Clomid!! This will be try #3 for me. Wish me luck

Mel - August 30th, 2005 10:20 AM

Hello Amy,
I too am in the same boat as you....I am waiting to see whether my second IUI worked....or whether AF is going to come anytime now. I have no symptoms of pregnancy, so I have no idea what the blood test result is going to be!

Ijay - August 30th, 2005 11:40 AM

question for everyone. did y'all have to have a positive opk before u went for IUI or did you go based on ur anticipated date of ovulation. my hussie and i have been trying for 11 mths now and nothing. i'm fine healthwise but he has motility issues. however we are considering IUI this week. it's going to cost $450 and i was wondering if this price is reasonable. i'm 28yrs old and i'm hoping that this will work for us..baby dust to y'all
